Built in the 13th century, Bischofstein Castle served as an impregnable fortress for the Archbishops of Trier. However, in the 17th century it was conquered and destroyed by the French. The castle has existed in its current form since the 1930s. (Source: burgbischofstein.org/burg-bischofstein)
