Malchow

Malchow was founded in the 10th century on an island in Lake Malchow. The beautifully renovated old town is located there today. After a fire in 1721, the citizens decided to rebuild their town outside the island. This is how the districts of Alt-Malchow am Kloster in the southeast and Neustadt in the northwest of the lake were created. Since then the city has been divided into three parts. An earthen dam and a swing bridge connect the old town with the mainland on both sides.

The island town of Malchow is a small town in southern Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the Mecklenburg Lake District district. Since 2005 it has been called a climatic health resort and since 2011 it has had the official suffix "Island City". It is also the administrative headquarters of the Malchow office, to which eight other communities belong. In addition, it forms a basic center for its surroundings.
