The Warnow, one of the country's most important rivers, flows from its source in Grebbin.
North of Grebbin, several ditches, including the Streitgraben, flow into the Warnow. From here the river flows in a westerly direction, through Lake Barnin and then further towards Lake Schwerin, but without reaching it. Five kilometers from its eastern bank it bends towards the north and takes its way through the sparsely populated Sternberger Lake District.
The 155 kilometer long and partly canalized Warnow finally flows into the Baltic Sea near Rostock. The country's largest city gets its drinking water from the Warnow.
