A true technical feat for its time, the Pont du Gard has three levels of arches and culminates at 49 meters. The aqueduct was built in the year 50 and supplied Nîmes with water for five centuries.
Subsequently, the bridge had different functions and stones were even taken to build churches.
The Pont du Gard was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1985.
The aqueduct is part of the Pont du Gard Site, which also includes the Salpêtrière cave, classified on the list of historic monuments.

There may be people at the bridge but what magic to arrive at the foot of the bridge on a mountain bike following a path in the forest!

A must if you are in the area. Great and very well preserved aqueduct.
