The medieval stronghold of Waldeck towers high above Lake Edersee. The completely preserved building has a history of more than 900 years. The Counts of Waldeck lived in the castle until 1655 and expanded it like a castle over time. The castle was then used as a barracks and in the 18th and 19th centuries primarily as a penitentiary and women's prison. Today you can find out more about the eventful history in the castle museum. In addition to the museum, there is a restaurant and a hotel in the castle.

The landmark of the region, the defiant Waldeck Castle, once ancestral seat of the Counts of Waldeck, who resided here until the 17th century, towers 200 m above the 27 km long lake. Today the castle is home to a first-class hotel and various restaurants.
From the viewing terrace you have a wonderful view of the Edersee and the wooded mountains of the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park.
