The medieval castle Nanstein near Landstuhl in the West Palatinate (Rhineland-Palatinate) was built around 1160 by Emperor Barbarossa. It owes its present-day reputation to a later owner, the rebellious Knight Franz von Sickingen. The ruins of the mountain castle is located on a 330 m NN high foothill on the rise to the south of Landstuhl beginning high plateau. Remains of the southern outer bailey are the main gate, the lower ring wall with Sternwerk and the city wall branching off from it as well as a part of the Zwingermauer. From the northern outer bailey are still the remains of the guard house and the castle chapel. Worth seeing are also the kitchen with heraldic stones, the large Rondell of the former battery tower as well as the small Rondell with the coat of arms decorated well bowl. There are possibilities of physical care.
