The 150-hectare "Tävsmoor/Haselauer Moor" was declared a nature reserve in 1995. Since 2007 it has also been part of the European network of protected areas NATURA 2000 as a fauna-flora-habitat (FFH) area.
Although the area's original moor character has been lost due to peat extraction. Due to the variety of different habitats, the protected area is nevertheless a retreat for rare plants and animals in the intensively agriculturally used environment.
The large "moor lake", willow bushes rich in peat moss, moor birch forest and some small, interspersed high moor areas characterize the picture.
