Great view over the lake in the Hallerey nature reserve with its many birds.
April 29, 2020
The Hallerey nature reserve is located about 5 km northwest of Dortmund city center and has a size of 72.1 hectares. The nature reserve was first placed under protection on September 12, 1977. The lake in Hallerey was created by mountain subsidence at the beginning of the 20th century. Initially the lake was used for coal washing at the Dorstfeld colliery. The area is an example of the combination of nature and industry. More at Wikipedia: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naturschutzgebiet_Hallerey
Walks and bike trips are really worthwhile, a real local recreational oasis in the middle of the districts of Dortstfeld, Marten and Rahm with lots of amphibians, toads and even bats. The lake is picturesquely located.
