The Old Town Hall was built around 1420 as a municipal purchase and wheelhouse. It applies with its magnificent half-timbered south gable as the main work of the Alemannic half-timbered building. From 1586 to 1589 a gable front with clock towers in the Renaissance style was erected on the north side. In 1592, an astronomical clock was added, the oldest functioning wrought-iron clock tower in Germany.
On the occasion of a renovation in 1926 was donated by the citizens of Esslingen a carillon with 24 bells. The chimes can be heard daily at 8, 12, 15, 18, 19.30.

Very beautiful building steeped in history. If you are there at the right time you can watch a beautiful carillon.

Opposite the old town hall is the 'New Town Hall' from the 18th century. Named after its first owners, the Barons of Palm, it is also known as the Upper Palm Building.
