Tips
  • Sindelfingen is one of the few medieval cities in Baden-Württemberg. The city was founded in 1263 by the Tübingen Count Palatine Rudolf I. Already in 1284 the city wall was finished.

As can still be seen from the topography of the city, and it becomes clear from the city charter, the city was built near the existing monastery. The city remained a typical agricultural town until the 20th century. The pen was moved in 1477, in its material and personal flowering time to Tübingen. A change in the structures still largely preserved medieval Old Town was not until the beginning of 1960.

Only building projects starting from 1965 attacked with extensive projects into the medieval building substance. The early onset of knowledge about the value of the historic fabric of an old town made it possible in Sindelfingen to prevent further major destruction.

This increased appreciation of the entire Old Town and the district of the pen meant that in 1987 the constitutional statutes for the core area of the old town and the pen area were passed. It regulates the design aspects of buildings, but also undeveloped areas or front gardens.

However, the design requirements formulated in 1987 can no longer meet the design requirements in many areas.

  • A nice mini-quarter with picturesque half-timbered houses and some good gastronomy ...
e.g .: 3 Mohren (refined Turkish cuisine, far from kebab & Co.)

  • Old town of Sindelfingen with numerous half-timbered houses worth seeing.
Sindelvingen was an agricultural settlement. The houses had a very special shape in some places due to the barn part and the inner-city plot structure, as evidenced by the courtyard at Hintere Gasse 9 from 1506. In the old town you will also find very urban and representative buildings, such as the Altes Rathaus/Salzhaus ensemble from 1470/1592, Lange Straße 13/Hintere Gasse 2. Sindelfingen has a small but very characteristic old town with about 100 half-timbered houses from the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries that you simply must see. The old town and the monastery district with the Martinskirche of Sindelfingen are still an attraction of very special significance.
