The Ökohof Kuhhorst was born out of the idea of creating employment opportunities in agriculture for people with disabilities. The first fields were leased at the beginning of the 1990s and work began on renovating the old farm buildings of the former estate. The farm was gradually expanded to include the cattle stable, the goose stables and the gardening buildings.
Today the eco farm produces in organic quality. It has been recognized as an agricultural demonstration farm. Kuhhorst is also an Arche-Hof of Vieh e.V., where livestock breeds threatened with extinction such as the black and white lowland cattle are kept. In addition to livestock and field farming, the Kuhhorsters run a farm shop and the Dorfkrug restaurant.
