The new rigger organ (2009) with 80 registers (different vocal characteristics) and 4 manuals and pedal weighs 36 tons and is - for reasons of monument protection - suspended on 4 steel cables. It is currently said to be the largest free-hanging organ in the world. It can be played from two consoles: one in the organ itself (the organist travels exclusively in an elevator at a height of 15 meters), the other console is in the choir room.
Pictures of the construction process of the huge organ can be found at:

In addition to the Cologne Cathedral, the cathedral is one of the most important Gothic cathedrals in Germany.

Magnificent from the outside, well worth seeing from the inside! Recommended, worth it! The two 105-meter-high towers dominate the cityscape and can be seen from far away. The exterior facade impresses with richly decorated sculptures and Gothic pointed arch windows. A visit to the cathedral is worthwhile not only for those interested in art and history, but also for anyone who wants to experience an impressive atmosphere.
