Free at last. This year's (summer) holiday tour takes me to Italy. I have not made it further than to Riva del Garda. That should change this year.

After a short night and a strenuous journey (got no bike card for the ICE and had to transport the wheel disassembled into pieces) it started at noon in Bad

Overnight then came the announced rain. And that's right. At some point during the night, I woke up to the tent by the drumming sound and could only fall asleep after the noise, after I had stuffed my ears with Oropax. The rain did not stop in the morning either. The campsite fortunately included a restaurant

After yesterday's wet hell ride up, I started it a bit quieter this morning. The gray clouds had all disappeared overnight. Sunshine and pleasant temperatures accompanied the start and about 80 km down through the Eisacktal to Bolzano lay in front of me. It also felt like I deserved it a little bit.

This morning I would have wished that I had gotten off earlier and to others, that I felt fitter. Did not do both.

After a short drive from Kalderer See to Etschradweg, but it was still going well. The sun was shining and the temperature was pleasant. The Etsch cycle path to the branch to the Garda lake

On the way to Pescheira in the morning, I first really noticed what a popular holiday area the south end of Lake Garda really is. Hotel next to hotel, campsite next to campsite, two amusement parks on the short distance, the street full of cars and the waterfront full of people. There was no progress

At night, I was really happy that I had taken the expensive hotel room, because at some point it started to thunder and flash and true torrents of rain came from the sky. Surely it would have worked with tent somehow. I was not unhappy anyway.

In the morning, most of the storm had cleared and only a few

Fantastic weather, wonderful peace and very relaxed morning. Waited by comparison today distance only a short distance on me. According to Komoot planning 75 km with a total of 850 meters up and over 1000 down. The rest flat. After the recording it became one or two more. And steep and crisp.

Do not cycle today but on foot. The click-things of the bicycle shoes unscrewed and off we went for the first time on our own. First stop - the Boboli Gardens. I had just paid the 10 Euro entrance fee, when it started to rain from buckets. Together with 3 - 4 other visitors, I waited for the worst on

  10. The eighth day in the saddle. I got into trouble quite a bit. First, after checking out of the hostel, I had prepared a route that led to all accessible bike shops in the city. My front brake had already started to drag since the descent from the Alps. After the last stage she did not stop. It's not

Soon after leaving I reached the Grand Canal della Chiana, next to a cycling and walking path along the "Sentiero della Bonifica" (path of drainage). I think I have never driven so long on a continuous gravel road. It is definitely not as easy as on asphalt, but it drives quite passable. Really positive

  12. Still problems with the front brake. I get so annoyed that I did not make everything new at home. I can not use that here. Therefore a later departure. The camp guard even gave me my ID card. - No, that was really nice, even if his campsite does not play in the Oberliga.

Before the track today, I had

  13. Today one of the shortest and probably simplest stages of the entire planned route. Therefore, there is not too much to report.

Very good morning I fell along the road along the lake. Often it lies a few meters above the water level of the lake, which allows beautiful wide views. Especially over the last

It continues. All the way to Rome must somehow inevitably lead out.

After the quite relaxed Saturday morning traffic in the city center lay behind me, I left Rome on the famous Via Appia. Fortunately, it is no longer paved with the old, irregular stone slabs from Roman times. That is absolutely cruel

As announced yesterday, only a short leg was planned today. From Pozzuoli it should go past Naples to Pompeii. I wanted to look at that. I deliberately excluded Naples. Because of all the horror stories about the chaotic traffic and the crime, I just had too much respect for lumbering around with my

  18. Unplanned, once again eaten a few more miles than was intended today. And today, of course, Komoot had to delay the launch for almost three quarters of an hour by simply refusing to start the navigation. Sucks.

At some point it finally worked out. I had the great hope that I had finally escaped the traffic

  19. Fast 1900 Hm.

The start this morning I made myself exceptionally times harder than he should have been and can not blame the strange Komoot airs. Instead of staying on top of the slope on the SS 18 national road and overcoming the next two valleys on the bridges without leveling, I took the serpentines around the

  21. Fortunately, the feared rain for the night had failed to materialize. After an early breakfast, we went straight from the campsite next to the road - via Lamezia Terme to the forefoot. The federal road or Strada Statale 18 runs here on almost flat terrain, so I progressed very quickly. Until shortly
