Rivers meandering for miles, canals, and wide moorlands with a mystical flair. All are spanned by countless bridges. Whether made of wood, stone or steel, no two bridges are alike in this region — and every crossing is unique. You can experience it all on the Brückenradweg (the bridge bike path) as you ride between Bremen and Osnabrück.
Separating these two cities are 290 kilometres (180 mi) of a mostly flat cycle path. The route is, of course, named after the many bridges that make the long-distance cycle path so characteristic. On the other hand, the name also symbolises the connecting characteristic of this cycle path, which links Bremen and Osnabrück like a bridge.
I’ve divided the circuit into seven stages for you. You start in Bremen and cycle along the eastern part of the route to Osnabrück. On the west side, you return to Bremen. Of course, you can also ride sections of the cycle path or start in Osnabrück.
No matter what you decide, both cities are home to large train stations that allow you to arrive comfortably by train. The whole area is well-connected by rail, so you can catch the train to other points along the route as well. As far as accommodation is concerned, you can choose between hotels, guesthouses, holiday apartments and campsites.
