Sunsets have something mystical about them and, for many, there is hardly a more romantic sight to behold. The moment the sun starts to dip below the horizon and throws a beautiful blanket over everything you can see — that's something truly special. In Europe, there are some spectacular places to witness this daily ritual, places that make this moment even more unique and special. And the fact that some of them are so remote you'll be the only person for miles makes the whole thing even more incredible. So, let's celebrate the beginning of new days: Here are the best sunset spots in Western Europe.

Godrevy Head at the eastern end of St Ives Bay, overlooking Godrevy Island and its lighthouse, offers one of Cornwall's most beautiful sunsets. The lighthouse on Godrevy Iceland is said to have inspired the writer Virginia Woolf to her novel "To the Lighthouse". West of Godrevy Head is a series of breathtaking beaches such as Gwithian Beach, where Atlantic waves meet at full speed.

A well-marked hiking trail begins immediately after the bus stop and after a few meters a viewing platform appears from which you have an ingenious view of the cliffs.

Nestled on a treeless headland facing southwest, Neist Point Lighthouse marks the westernmost tip of the Isle of Skye. On the other hand, Neist Point is an ideal place to experience sunsets in the Inner Hebrides. Neist Point Lighthouse is one of the best known lighthouses in Scotland and, with good reason, is popular with landscape photographers and tourists alike. Due to the southwestern orientation of the headland, it is optimally positioned for sunsets with a view of the lighthouse and the Atlantic Ocean beyond. You will experience loneliness and pure landscape here, if you move a bit off the beaten track.

Located on the edge of the Arcachon basin, the Pilat dune is an exceptional natural phenomenon. It measures approximately 500 meters wide, 2.7 kilometers long and reaches an impressive height of 110 meters, making it the largest sand dune in Europe.
This dune is a breathtaking spectacle, offering breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Landes forest on the other. Its fine, golden sand is constantly reshaped by wind and tides, creating an ever-changing landscape.
The Pilat Dune not only attracts more than a million visitors per year, but it is also an important ecological site, with diverse species of plants and animals. Climbing the dune can be a challenge due to its slope and the shifting texture of the sand, but the reward at the top is a stunning panorama, especially magnificent at sunset.

In one of my notebooks I wrote about Cabo de São Vicente:
“Along the coast, holidaymakers taste the pleasure of freedom for a moment. They rush to Cabo de São Vicente to try, in vain, to observe the American coasts. From the tip of the end of the world, a semaphore illuminates the most impetuous sailors at a range of 32 nautical miles, the equivalent of 60 kilometers. As an illuminated eye on the ocean, it offers little people, from the confines of the continent, the privilege of dreaming. Watching the horizon mixes crazy adventures and great getaways. The merchant navy rubs shoulders with corsairs, and fishermen with travellers. »

The point is a cliff that rises from the feared islets of O Petonciño and A Centola to the mount of O Facho (242 m) where it seems that the Ara Solis of Antiquity was used to celebrate solar rites. Traditionally it is considered the westernmost point of the continent, although in truth it does not correspond to such a title. Until here the Camino de Santiago continues for the pilgrims who, according to tradition, burn their clothes at the seashore and begin their return home.
