Old castles and magnificent cathedrals, idyllic vineyards and vast orchards, extensive river meadows and wild forests: heritage, culture, beautiful landscapes and wild nature go hand in hand on the Saale Cycle Path. 🌿🚴♀️🏰 The outdoor blogger Fräulein Draußen (Miss Outdoors) took to the trails and reports on her experiences in this Collection:
‘The complete route is around 400 kilometres (25o mi) long and leads from the Saale’s source in the Fichtel Mountains through Bavaria, Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt to the mouth of the Elbe. I rode most of the route through Saxony-Anhalt in three days.
On this section, the riding is a bit more relaxed than on the southern part, as the landscape is flatter and the elevation gain is limited. The route mainly follows cycle paths and gravel roads, while the road sections are short, and usually, on small side roads. Gravel or touring bikes are both equally suitable.
The route’s logistics are also simple. Accommodation is plentiful and at regular intervals – from hotels to camping sites – and beer gardens, cafes and supermarkets also dot the route.
You can find more about my journey in the respective Tour descriptions.
Oh, and the Saale Cycle Path celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2024 🥳🎂. More information about the entire route can be found in the official komoot Collection: komoot.com/collection/699'

ᵂᴱᴿᴮᵁᴺᴳ The day before, a lot of rain was forecast for my second stage on the Saale Cycle Path, but overnight the weather forecast changed significantly for the better - and in the end I got an estimated 10 drops! 🤩 That was a good thing, because I really liked this stage a lot, and if it rained on…

ᵂᴱᴿᴮᵁᴺᴳ My third (and last 🥲) stage on the Saale Cycle Path starts and ends in two particularly beautiful towns:
Merseburg and Naumburg are both home to important cathedrals and beautiful town centers with many historical treasures. Naumburg will celebrate its 1,000th city anniversary in 2028. And Merseburg…
