Rugged dune landscapes, babbling brooks and marshy moors – the Hertogenpad is a trail that showcases the diverse landscapes of the Netherlands.
In 12 stages, it takes you through the rich history, enchanting landscapes and picturesque villages of North Brabant and Limburg. Whether you're an experienced hiker or just starting to explore long-distance trails, the Hertogenpad is a must-visit.
One of the highlights of the Hertogenpad is the beautiful nature reserve, the Loonse and Drunense Duinen National Park. As you walk through this vast area of shifting sand, you experience the peace and beauty of the dunes. The landscape truly is unique in the Netherlands. At times, it almost resembles a desert.
You’ll also pass historical sites such as Heeswijk Castle and Horn Castle. Admire the imposing architecture here and learn more about the rich history these castles carry with them.
It’s not only culture and history that are prominent along the Hertogenpad, but also the abundance of nature. These routes take you through vast forests, enchanted moors and picturesque valleys.
Along the way, you can also enjoy local cuisine and hospitality in charming villages and towns, such as Meijel, Griendtsveen and Nieuwkuijk. Be sure to stop off at the cosy cafés or restaurants to taste the delicious regional dishes and delicacies.
Each Tour in this Collection finishes somewhere with overnight accommodation nearby. However, places to stay can be limited in some areas so it’s essential to book ahead.
