Brussels is a vibrant city rich in history, architecture, cuisine and culture. The capital of Belgium and Europe, Brussels is full of surprises.
In this Collection, we reveal eight bike rides to admire all the varied beauty of this historic city. Eight themes will enable you to discover the city from every angle: unusual and secret, industrial, rural, international, hilly – and utterly unmissable.
The routes range from 8 to 38 kilometres (5 - 24 mi), so there's something for everyone. Each route passes by numerous points of interest that you'll no doubt want to explore, sometimes on foot. So, bring a bike lock and don't hesitate to leave a little time in your schedule to visit museums, galleries, breweries and other places of interest.
Along the way, you may come across a number of poles bearing signs with numbers and arrows. These are Brussels junction points, which allow you to find your way around by bike and create endless itineraries. With this system, each crossroads is given a number, and these are shown on a paper map or online. All you have to do to complete these eight routes is follow the komoot navigation on your phone or connected device.
You can follow these routes all year round, although April to September is undoubtedly the most pleasant period. Any bicycle will do. However, a touring, gravel or mountain bike is preferable, as some stretches of road are not asphalted.
