Stage 26 cuts through the heart of Salisbury Plain; a bleak, beautiful and utterly atmospheric landscape. From Market Lavington, head south and join the Imber Range Perimeter Path. Shortly after White Barrow, hike east through expansive farmland to Shrewton.

You can expect an awe-inspiring step back in time on stage 27, which visits one of the world’s most recognisable prehistoric monuments: Stonehenge. From Shrewton, the Way heads east to Stonehenge and affords a view almost as good as the one paying guests get. The trail then arcs southwest to finish in Berwick St James.

This stage snakes southwest from Berwick St James to Chitterne. Here, join the Imber Range Perimeter Path and continue west to the vibrant market town Warminster. Shortly before the finish, you rise to Battlesbury Camp, an Iron Age hillfort, where idyllic views await.

Stage 29 takes you southwest along the edge of the Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. From Warminster, the Way cuts through the heart of Longleat Forest, snakes through Horningsham, rises over Gare Hill and then traverses woodlands to South Brewham.

After stepping over the boundary into Somerset on the previous hike, stage 29 takes you deeper into the heart of the county. Expect rolling meadows, clusters of woodlands and fine views punctuated by quaint villages on this hike between South Brewham and West Pennard.

Commanding views, crumbling relics and charming countryside all combine on this hike. From West Pennard, the trail heads west and soon ascends Glastonbury Tor before dropping into Glastonbury itself. The Way then arcs south through Street before bending east through Great Breech Wood to Butleigh.

Stage 32 heads southeast through stunning Somerset countryside to the village of Corton Denham. En route, you experience enchanting architecture plus breathtaking panoramic views from the summit of Cadbury Castle, an ancient hillfort.
