Before the gloomy days arrive, Germany often shows itself once again from its sunny side. We have two suggestions for an extended weekend: two tours each in the Thuringian Forest and in the Fichtel Mountains. And if you can't decide between the two medium-high mountain ranges, which are less than 150 kilometers apart, and have a little more time, simply visit both areas - it's worth itYou can find the GPS data here, the whole story in TOUR 10/2021 - buy at the kiosk or online. After a quiet ascent through dense forest and a rapid descent, Suhl briefly flashes industrial city flair before it goes into the lovely Little Thuringian Forest.

The worthy finale of the tour is a beautiful but increasingly steep 400-meter climb to the Kleiner Dreiherrenstein - with an impressively fast descent back to Ilmenau.

It's never really flat, but not really agonizingly steep either: the astonishingly many meters of altitude on the short lap come together almost unobtrusively. Only the 400-meter ascent to Oberweißbach shows almost alpine qualities with a constant incline.

The beginning is crisp: Immediately it goes over the Schneebergpass (799 m) and the crest of the road on the Großer Waldstein (762 m) to the Förmitztalsperre, then wavy east to the porcelain town of Selb, there out of town to the south.

On the tour you should turn from (16) to Kulmain and not drive the Armesberg (the long loops at 17, 18). There is a lot of traffic there. Better from Kulmain to Wernersreuth. Or alternatively turn right before (17) and via Godas to Trevesen. There is a perfect bike path to Ebnath. I drove there for 20
