The Total CMD System for Underground Power Tunnels and Cables

SOLUTION

The Underground Power Conduit Pipe Preventive Diagnosis System, based on international standards, monitors and diagnoses facilities within underground power conduit pipes for power transmission and distribution.

It consists of the power conduit pipe, which is the monitoring subject, IoT monitoring sensors on connection boxes, field units that collect and transmit dispersed temperature of the cable, transmission load and partial discharge information, and a primary operating system based on IEC 61850.

Furthermore, the primary operating system is capable of providing visualized diagnosis results to the administrator based on e-Government frame 3.0, web and HTML.

The domestic production of DTS equipment for monitoring dispersed temperature of cables offers outstanding technological and price competitiveness and dynamic real-time transmission capacity calculations efficient power grid operations.

It resolves operational inconveniences and accurately estimates location of partial discharge to prevent cable malfunctions

It also allows quick remote control through real-time monitoring such warnings, 3D cross section diagrams and surveillance camera feeds in case of fires, water damage or trespassing in the conduit pipe.

KEPCO KDN’s Underground Power Conduit Pipe Preventive Diagnosis System is the first in Korea to be based on the IEC 61850, and improves power conduit pipe and cable health evaluation and malfunction prediction accuracy based on CMD.

Starting with KEPCO’s Underground Power Conduit Pipe XLPE Field Demonstration, and by expanding the Power Distribution Conduit Pipe Monitoring System Project, Power Generation Conveyor Belt And Control Cable Fire Monitoring & Diagnosis, HVDC Underground Cable Temperature Measuring And Damage Surveillance fields,

Overview
  • An integrated preventative diagnosis system which establishes the international standard based CMD to diagnose the trouble of underground distribution power channels and cables, localizes DRS/DTS and develops the cable PD system to evaluate the soundness of underground power facilities and improve the concordance rate of diagnosis.

Performance and Commercialization
  • Carried out the site verification test of 345kV power channel and XLPE Cable of KEPCO (~ June 2017)
  • Extend the project to establish the general monitoring system of distribution power channel (From May 2016, KEPCO Distribution Center)
  • Utilized in monitoring faire of DTR based conveyer belt and control cable
