Red One (2024)
I Think A Different Studio Could Do It Cheaper
The movie Red One reportedly cost $250 million to produce, but the end result left me underwhelmed. The dialogue was painfully cheesy and often cringeworthy, while the overall story execution felt sloppy and uninspired. The villain lacked depth, with a backstory that failed to leave an impression.
Visually, Santa's sleigh was overly large, and the reindeer were bizarrely giant, which felt more distracting than magical. The depiction of Santa's city, complete with a government agency and a setting reminiscent of Coruscant from Star Wars, felt overblown and out of place.
If this movie were to be remade, it would benefit from a complete overhaul-starting with the dialogue and script. The concept has potential, but this execution felt bloated and excessive, especially considering its $250 million price tag. It's hard to shake the feeling that someone else could have done it better, and for far less.
Heretic (2024)
Thought-Provoking, Truly Makes You Think!
The obsession with religion and making it look like a psychological thriller is ingenious and productive. Hugh Grant has a clear message on what is the one true religion. The undeniable scary fact of it is Control. It is a testament and the architecture of what he truly believes in. His house is one scary environment. His intellect is really spot on with his theology. The two girls in the movie are amazing. Although I don't know why they talk about condoms and porn in the beginning of the movie. It is truly bizarre. However when they do meet Hugh Grant , the movie just makes it intriguing to watch.
I'm just amazed that the movie has no profanity. I'm just mind blown and happy that I got to watch this in theaters. Heretic shows you when religion is about control, it is scary.
Venom: The Last Dance (2024)
Mediocre Venom
This trilogy left me feeling underwhelmed. Knull's appearance was reduced to just a cameo, and the idea of Venom being the key to unlocking his prison felt forced. The movie focused too much on side characters who added little value. Where was the epic alien invasion? Or a cameo from the iconic web-slinger? Instead, we got a road trip and a mediocre battle, ending with the main character's sacrifice-a moment that lacked emotional buildup and failed to resonate. The director didn't create enough investment in the characters, so even the big moment fell flat. It was anticlimactic and left me wondering what I had just watched. This Venom movie gets a thumbs down from me.
Conclave (2024)
Management of the Pope
Being appointed as a Pope is the most powerful position in history of mankind, however I do want to point out the flaws of the movie, if you are managing the Conclave, you should not feel tired of hearing the secrets of the appointees especially when you vote for them. The rules and regulations are there. There is a reason why it's there. The violation of the sanctity of the church will have a dire consequence! I'm grateful we get to see the process of the conclave voting. Ralph Fiennes does a phenomenal job. As for the plot twist, some people will dislike it and some might think it's brilliant. However with all honesty, no appointees should never get a free pass when becoming a pope. Never!
Smile 2 (2024)
The Premise: Losing Your Mind
I will say that Smile 2 will absolutely make you lose your mind. It is so creative of what it does. Despite the jump scares, it truly takes you on a journey inside Naomi Scott's mind. It feels like the movie A Beautiful Mind but more dark and gory. The f-bombs are endless in this movie, almost made me feel like I did not want to eat. I do have a question, why does this movie give no hope for the character?
It is messy and chaotic but yet it does not give you a solution to how this smiling demon emerges. When it made its debut, would the third movie be called Smile 3: Armageddon. Because of its plot twist and show. I'm already thinking my mind got lost big time.
Nefarious (2023)
Extraordinary Performance
Sean Patrick Flanery and Jordon Belfi were phenomenal in this film. An Atheist Physician vs a demon. It takes place in a prison, two ordinary men just having a conversation. However the demon gets inside the mind of the physician and literally shakes him up. I was literally impressed on how engaging this film was made.
Evil is the new normal in this world. Its purpose is to destroy what the creator has created. Hiding the truth and being your own God truly is one astounding achievement that the world has ever known. The movie doesn't have curse words or blood. But it does know how to get into your head by disturbing you with the truth. Both actors truly made this film worth watching.
Midway (2019)
Midway Was Okay!
Too much talk, runtime felt too long. The battle of Midway between the Americans and Japanese army felt like a video game more than an actual war. I don't know how this movie ended up messy with too many characters that had different stories and perspectives, it's hard to jam it in a 2 hour movie. The whole story was about the characters and the event. I feel certain scenes could have been cut out. I don't know what happened in the editing room. First hour was Pearl Harbor, and then a different scenario. I didn't like the person who played Best, he was hard to follow through in this movie. Good ending though.
Joker: Folie à Deux (2024)
Joker is Unwatchable
I'm disgusted with this movie. The musical is so annoying and unnecessary it makes the tone of the movie terrible. I don't understand the message this movie was trying to convey but I am thinking it had two different parts to it. Seeing the delusions of his character and seeing the whole joke on how the justice system portrays. Arthur Fleck just wants to be seen as a normal human. But seeing his crimes makes him a criminal and he has to fight it just for himself to be free. The ending was a slap in the face to the audience and for that reason the director is a nobody. Lady Gaga is cool but honestly how this whole movie went, I just don't want to remember what I watched.
The Wild Robot (2024)
The Wild Robot Portrays The Power of Community!
"The Wild Robot" tells the story of Roz, a task-performing robot stranded on a dangerous, untamed island teeming with wild animals. In this hostile environment, where one wrong move can be fatal, Roz sets out on a journey to find someone who can give her a primary objective. Instead, she stumbles upon a young duckling and, through the experience of caring for it, discovers the nuances of parenting. Along the way, she encounters a fox who helps guide her, and Roz learns about the deep bonds of love and compassion, not only for the animals she meets but for the entire wildlife community.
The film beautifully portrays Roz's endurance, especially as she faces the challenges of nature and the harsh weather. The visuals are stunning, leaving you in awe of how they captured the raw beauty of the island and its inhabitants. "The Wild Robot" delivers a powerful message, one of wisdom and peace, as it explores the complex relationships between predators and prey, and the delicate balance of the natural world. It's a moving and visually spectacular film that resonates with both heart and mind.
Speak No Evil (2024)
James McAvoy is One Amazing Actor!
This movie is unsettling, but it doesn't quite fit into the horror genre. Honestly, if someone sent me a postcard like that, I think most of us would toss it and move on. We all have our own lives and goals. That's really my only issue with the film. It's definitely a slow burn, but the dialogue is what stands out. You can really feel James McAvoy's presence-he's such a compelling character. The tension between knowing what's right and wrong is palpable, and while the family's choices under pressure aren't always the best, that adds to the experience. I haven't seen the original, so I can't make comparisons, but I watched this one for McAvoy, and I think most of us did. He might play a character that's a bit unhinged, but he sure knows how to put on a great performance.
Transformers One (2024)
Optimus Prime and Megatron
They started as best friends before becoming enemies, and that's what the Transformers' origin story should emphasize. Under the leadership of Sentinel Prime, they were miners. They believed their city was safe, unaware of the corruption brewing beneath the surface. Watching their characters gradually transform into the iconic figures we know is truly epic-especially as they realize they're turning against each other. Megatron's revelation that his own leader would turn him into the villain, and Optimus Prime's rise as the leader of the Autobots, was captivating. Throughout the movie, I couldn't help but smile. As a Transformers fan, this film deepened my love for the series. Absolutely beautiful!
The Killer's Game (2024)
What Could Have Been? Not Surprised!
This movie had the potential to give what supposedly John Wick a satisfying ending, but it fell short, feeling generic compared to the original. The Killer's Game with Dave Bautista's character was somewhat justified-a hitman who, due to a misdiagnosis, orders a hit on himself, which is a bit of an absurd premise. Pom Klementieff plays the main villain, determined to kill Bautista's character. She sends out a team of assassins in a way that feels oddly similar to a Tinder swipe. The film has its moments of humor and action, but it becomes repetitive. There's an overuse of explosives, and gunfights are surprisingly rare for an action film. While it's entertaining, I was disappointed that Bautista's character didn't go after the lab technicians responsible for the misdiagnosis, and there was no final showdown between him and Pom.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024)
Michael Keaton Shines, Great Movie Overall
Michael Keaton deserves credit for his performance as the iconic Beetlejuice; he was both hilarious and sharp. Winona Ryder and Jenna Ortega also did a fantastic job in their roles. Unfortunately, Monica Bellucci's portrayal of the villain felt underdeveloped and lacked impact. However, there's a surprising twist involving a character Jenna encounters, who turns out to be a more compelling villain than Monica's character, adding an interesting layer to the story. Another highlight was Danny Elfman's theme music, which was a delight to hear. While the plot had a lot going on and could have benefited from a longer runtime, it was definitely worth watching.
Blink Twice (2024)
What A Letdown!
A letdown in every sense. This movie had one job: to keep me engaged. Instead, it only made me painfully aware of how dull and sluggish it was. Within the first hour, I was already considering leaving the theater. The lack of story and plot was unbearable, and the characters were equally disappointing. I found myself closing my eyes, unable to endure how excruciatingly slow the plot was unfolding. By the time it reached the so-called "interesting" scenes, I had already lost all interest in the absurd narrative. If there's a lesson to be learned, it's to forget you ever watched it. *Blink Twice* is so forgettable that I genuinely can't even recall what it was about!
Alien: Romulus (2024)
My Expectations Were Wrong and I'm Glad
I initially expected *Alien Romulus* to be a total flop, but I was pleasantly surprised by how well it was made. Sci-fi horror often disappoints, but the direction and execution here were nothing short of amazing. The cinematography was stunning, and the practical effects were incredibly well done. I didn't expect the film to have such a compelling story and clear motivations, but it delivered on both fronts. The scenes with zero gravity and acid blood were particularly impressive. The buildup of tension throughout the movie was expertly handled, and the performances by the new cast members were outstanding. My first experience with the *Alien* franchise was *Alien vs. Predator*, which I found underwhelming, but *Alien Romulus* completely changed my perspective. I was absolutely captivated by it.
Borderlands (2024)
If Dissatisfied, Throw It Away!
Borderlands is a major disappointment. The movie is dull, poorly executed, and overloaded with subpar CGI effects.
Kevin Hart as a tough guy? It's laughable-his action scenes are unconvincing and feel like a joke. Cate Blanchett and Jamie Lee Curtis, usually stellar actresses, delivered performances that fell flat, and Jack Black's portrayal of a robot was more irritating than entertaining. The dialogue is weak, and the story of the vault is mishandled from start to finish.
The vault scene, in particular, was a mess. I can't imagine what they were thinking. Eli Roth's direction leaves much to be desired; he seems completely out of his depth. This movie was so bad it actually made me bored during an action sequence! The CGI effects were mediocre at best, and the overall production felt sloppy. I was thoroughly unimpressed.
Trap (2024)
Starts off Good, Slowly Gets Dull
The movie "Trap" begins with a young father and his daughter enjoying a concert, capturing the excitement fans feel when seeing their favorite music artist. It's a relatable moment, as who wouldn't love to see their favorite artist live? The scene is tense, with police officers questioning everyone at the concert. Josh Hartnett plays the father, but we soon notice his demeanor shifting to one of fear. As news of a serial killer on the loose emerges, Josh's character starts planning something. However, the third act becomes tiring and loses its momentum, ultimately devolving into a disappointing and lackluster cat-and-mouse game.
Deadpool & Wolverine (2024)
The Summer Blockbuster We Been Waiting For!
I'm thrilled to have seen a Marvel movie this year, especially featuring Deadpool and Wolverine. These two make an incredible duo. The fight scenes were fantastic, and the comedic storyline had me laughing throughout. The film was packed with Easter eggs and cameos. It had two villains: Cassandra Nova and Paradox from the TVA. Cassandra's powers were intimidating and she had a truly scary presence, although I wish the MCU would do more with her character rather than potentially letting us down. Some scenes felt dragged out, and the pacing was occasionally slow and awkward. Despite this, the movie was overall fun and exciting. It was the great summer blockbuster we had all been waiting for.
Twisters (2024)
A Thrilling Sequel with Heart and Unpredictable Fury
Does it feel like a sequel or more like a surreal event? It would have been nice to see a connection to the original movie, perhaps with Kate being the daughter of Helen Hunt's character from the first film.
However, that would have completely changed the story, and the studios never wanted to go that route. Kate is portrayed as someone who understands the winds and climate well but isn't quite a professional storm scientist, highlighting her human side. The real antagonist in the movie is undoubtedly the tornadoes, depicted as menacing and unpredictable forces of nature.
Glen Powell's character and Kate share amazing chemistry, and because of that, I ended up liking this movie more than the original. I'd give it a 9/10.
Despicable Me 4 (2024)
"Despicable Me 4: Forced Fun and a Confusing Plot"
"Despicable Me 4" offers cuteness and laughs but falls short with its forced storytelling, making it feel uninteresting. What happened? Imagine being in a witness protection program, forced to adopt a persona that isn't yours. That's what this film feels like-cringy and insincere. When you're not genuine, people can tell. Gru and his family experience this while trying to capture a villain. It's tiring to see a known villain turned into a secret agent rather than staying true to his original character. The story feels rushed, forced, and lacks the depth needed to be a great kids' film. The movie suffers from too many subplots, making it difficult to understand and follow the main story.
A Quiet Place: Day One (2024)
Truly disappointing
The trailer made it seem like we would learn how it all started, but the movie didn't feel like Day One at all. Everyone already knew they had to be silent to survive. I was frustrated by the numerous plot holes and felt misled by the marketing. They could have at least shown the military's perspective. It felt like a continuation of A Quiet Place Part Two, and the meteor shower scene was confusing. The cat was completely unrealistic-there's no way a cat would stay silent.
On the positive side, the acting was great. However, I was disappointed that the aliens' origin wasn't explained. Making it a mystery didn't make sense to me.
The Bikeriders (2023)
Confused and Frustrated
I expected this movie to respect motorcycle gangs, but it left me bored and frustrated by the end. What happened?
There was too much talking and not enough action. The story didn't move me or make a lasting impression. Jodi's accent was grating, sounding like a stereotypical Karen complaining about trivial matters. I found her tone so cringeworthy that I had to close my eyes. Ashton seemed disinterested and his character's actions-breaking the law and getting injured-felt unconvincing.
Tom Hardy, the club leader, should have been loyal and respectful to his fellow gang members. However, the way he handled disagreements left me questioning his role in the gang.
Ultimately, I couldn't form a clear opinion about this film, likely because it was stuck in mediocrity.
Inside Out 2 (2024)
Great Relatable Message
Great job, Disney Pixar, for creating such an emotional experience with this movie. The way it portrays emotions and their connection to our lives is both impactful and heartwarming. Inside Out 2 is truly an emotional roller coaster. I love how it tells a story about fitting in and going through puberty. The story is incredible, and the writing is so creative. The message is clear, "Do not let anxiety control your emotions."
I love that message and how the belief system is portrayed in this film. The writers clearly had fun with it. I was in tears, sobbing because it was so relatable and great at the same time. It is refreshing to see a movie with such great positive message.
Bad Boys: Ride or Die (2024)
Ride Or Die is A Fun Movie
The film features epic action and comedy between Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. I had a lot of fun with it, thanks to the great chemistry between the leads, the amazing action sequences, and the excellent camera work. However, Martin's obsession with Skittles and snacks felt a bit silly, as did the mystery surrounding their chief's cartel dealings. The movie was shorter than expected, but the side characters, like Reggie and Armando, were fantastic. The plot was average, reminiscent of an 80s action movie. It included some tense moments, such as a main character having a cardiac arrest and another experiencing a panic attack.
Now, about Will Smith: there's been a lot of backlash against him following the infamous Oscar slap. While I don't condone his actions, everyone makes mistakes. We all have our moments of poor judgment, and it's part of being human. We should focus on forgiveness. After all, we're Bad Boys for life! Fist bump!
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024)
Boring Story! Action Sequences were excellent!
Furiosa. Not sure why her story has not made an emotional impact on me. It was boring. Some nutty leader wants to take over the whole business industry with his army and hasn't done anything but harass other characters. I was hoping for some kind of connection with all of it. However one great reason to watch it is the action sequences and how they maneuver the whole game. Other than that, I was quite bored with Furiosa vengeance. Music, cinematography, and Chris Hemsworth were okay. The whole issue was Furiosa was too focused on her being a child. That took forever just for her to grow up. It could have been shortened but I guess the director and studios wanted it that way.
