The Best Man (2023)
It's a Good Streaming Flick , Maybe not a Date movie
I've read a ton of negative reviews on this film. Some saying that Dolph Lundgren is too old and should retire, others saying that Luke Wilson just mails it in.
This film is better than that. Was the script a little mechanical and the acting not great, yes. Would I rather watch this than some foreign dubbed flick, yes.
Luke Wilson pulls off the role of a former special forces leader pretty well and Dolph Lundgren pulls off the role of great team member with a regretful person life with ease. There's some aspects of the plot that don't fully make sense but , overall, this is worth the minutes it takes to view it if you want to pass some time with a few great actors not doing their best acting in an action movie that could use a little more act.
Feast of the Seven Fishes (2019)
Gen X'rs will like this
I graduated high school in 1985. This brought back some realizations and memories. Set in December of 1983, this reminded me of the deep family connections, especially at Christmas, that seem to have disappeared in these days. I love the Italian traditions. Having a very close friend who is Italian, I still see a lot more relative to the film. As a reminder, drinking age was 18 back then and it wasn't really enforced back then.
I love the welcoming family.
This film is nice. Not a comedy, but it does have its moments.
If you're a Gen X age range and appreciate everything that was going on back then, you'll enjoy this Christmas time flick.
The Collective (2023)
Good to see Lucas Till
We used to enjoy watching MacGyver. Haven't seen Lucas Till in anything since they canceled the show. This movie feels like it probably had a MacGyver double episode budget. Tyrese is better in funnier roles.
The writing could have been better. Non known actors were awful. Lifetime Movie Network caliber.
Don Johnson makes brief appearances. Ruby Rose has minimal presence as well.
If you are ok with just chilling out while maybe doing some other project or napping, or maybe just bored, this is ok. I enjoyed it while chowing down. I hope Lucas Till shows up in some better movies in the next year.
Old Dads (2023)
Gen X Bill Burr Stand-up Fans Will Like It
This flick is enjoyed mostly by Gen X fans of Bill Burr's stand up comedy routines.
His comedy is always hard truth, in your face.
There are some tender moments across close friends. Guys going through tough times in an age of political correctness and social engineering gone too heavy.
Normal guys who had kids late in life exposed to a Generation they understand, but don't want to be forced to participate. Freedom of speech and violation of basic privacy themes come full circle.
Getting older has gifts and pains they do well to spotlight. The supporting cast is great.
Well worth your time to give it a watch.
Desperation Road (2023)
A Worthy Film
Sometimes when you've lost everything, you have nowhere to go but up. Other times when you've lost everything, you just want to get to the next day. This film is deep. Two people from different lives that end up intersecting in the depths of bad times. The story telling is natural, pulls you in. It's hard to find the bad guy because everyone is hurting. Regret, attempts toward redemption, the support of family because they truly love you. Lots of stages of life shown here. Lots of coping with poor choices and attempts to find a new way. Attempts to reconcile wherever you are right now. This film has some deep feelings and heartfelt dialog mixed in with some gritty action. Great acting, excellent directing, and just the right amount of musical score. A good film that should be given a chance.
Oracle (2023)
Really Good Little Flick
Heather Graham is the only actress you'll recognize and she is not the main star. The people who make up the cast do a great job. The effects are done well enough to give you a good fright.
The story centers on a girl making a real connection with a place from her dreams. She's hired as a nanny for just one night and that's when everything happens. Camera work is good. This doesn't feel like a B movie. Not sure what the budget was but it was well directed and produced. I watched on a streaming service as part of my subscription and am glad I did. Good little scary movie to watch when you're in that kind of mood.
Zombie Town (2023)
Meant to be Cheesey fun 🧀
This film was never intended to take itself seriously. Chevy Chase and Dan Aykroyd worked with R. L. Stine to create a fun, young teen oriented movie. I love the nostalgic moments of the film. Parts of the movie made me miss a simpler time of being a high school kid. I love that Dan Aykroyd plays the role seriously. He knows what this flick is. It's Halloween time and there's not a lot of fun stuff , or even great stuff out there ; in part, due to the current writer strike. I'm guessing this was completed before it all started. If you approach this movie as a bit of a spoof, you'll enjoy it. If you're looking for something really scary , this isn't for you.
SAS: Red Notice (2021)
Way Better than the Ruby Rose Hater Reviews
This is obviously a British made film and a pretty good one. I actually like Ruby Rose as the bad guy, i.e. John Wick 2. The SAS are some of the world's finest. They deserve more respect than this movie gives them but at least it doesn't attempt to demean them.
This film is enjoyable. Give it a chance without a filter.
Body Brokers (2021)
Sad State of our Healthcare System
Although this is a dramatization, the story feels all too real. The laws are ripe for abuse.
You see what's likely coming in the story but can't stop watching.
Yes Day (2021)
Great Clean Family Movie
Made for families to watch together. Intentionally silly and predictable. Nice. We need more general audience type movies like this one. Reminds me of the Disney Channel produced movies.
Toys of Terror (2020)
Way Better Than the Reviews
We watched this as a family on the SyFy channel. Special effects were low budget so you just had to go with it. Overall it was enjoyable enough for us not to change the channel.
