Lift (2024)
Not usually into heist movies
I'm not usually into heist movies, so they usually don't pop up for me, but I was with my sister when we saw the trailer and we decided to watch this movie. I actually found myself enjoying the film. Now I know there's a lot of film clichés, and the genre of heist movies has to have a crew that has certain types of characters/ roles and it has to have action plot lines, etc.... Typically someone has to be hired by someone they don't want to work for.... -and they have to steal something and there's usually a double Cross somewhere in the storyline......
Maybe it's the fact that this movie didn't have as much action, and it was mostly set up and character, but I actually really liked the film. I was engaged for pretty much all of it. I laughed at most of the jokes if not all of them it didn't feel like it was corny or like too self-referential of the genre. I mean there were some romance moments that were whatever to me but that's just because I don't love romance on the screen unless it's done in a very specific way. But overall I really liked it and my family really liked it too so I think a lot of times with reviews people are looking to hate but this was a really good film if you're not a fan of the genre and constantly watching heist or action movies and hopefully even if you are and aren't just a hater then I think you will like this movie. I do agree the biggest action shot was on the plane -naturally as it's the climax of the film, but also I feel like that was kind of the point the rest of the movie was the set up which worked for me.
I loved it tbh and would watch it again.
My Dad the Bounty Hunter (2023)
Absolutely loved it
This show is great. Though the plot was predictable at times I still found each episode interesting to watch and binged the whole series with my daughter.
The show is about the kids stowing away and making their dads job harder.
Being a parent that works from home I thought this was a great representation of what it looks like when you try to work while your kids are around. I'll admit his kids did not listen but put kids that age in space and I'm sure it would look a lot like this if space actually did consist of cute little cartoon characters.
Im happy to see a POC piece that isn't about racism or being different because of something semi related to skin or something around that topic but not directly that topic.
Storks (2016)
Under-rated
I hadn't watched this movie at first because I thought it looked super corny but i actually really enjoyed and have a watched it a handful of times now.
There's definitely moments in this movie that resonated deeply with me and I'm sure it did with other parents as well especially the interaction between the stork and Tulip when the baby is up all night.
I could have gone without the Trump haired bird character completely and I think representation of different families other families such as LGBT And people with different body types Would have been nice at the end during the quick shots.
Overall I really enjoyed and the main young character other than the baby is a bit mature for his age but the reasons are valid and I think many kids in his situation would relate to this as well. I grew up with three older sister and still could relate to that feeling.
People rate kids movies too harshly. Tbh kids really can't relate to what's on the screen for quite some time and even when they do start reaching an age where they can start grasping that information (three) they loose interests very quickly because their attentions spans are much shorter than ours. There are definitely lots of movies that are hot stinkers but this one is very cute and my daughter and I will be watching it again soon.
