Meet Cute (2022)
NOT a Rom-Com
As other reviews mentioned, this is not a Rom-Com, it's a drama. I feel if it was marketed correctly, it would be better received. When choosing a movie, my mood definitely plays a part in it. If I choose to watch a Rom-Com/Comedy, I'm expecting to laugh, enjoy the show in an upbeat way. Lift my mood. This movie did not have any comedic moments and was not the right fit for the mood I was in. Overall, I think it told the story very well and I probably would have enjoyed it more if I knew more of the plot line/that it was a drama. Being in the right headspace to watch it definitely would have helped.
A Dog's Journey (2019)
Seriously, go read the book!
I read the first book in the series and I was hooked; read all the rest W. Bruce Cameron has written for this series. They are so amazing!! There is so much in the books that COULD have been added into the movie if they wanted (I know not everything can stay the same.) and they added/changed way too much in this adaptation. If I hadn't read the book, I probably would have enjoyed the movie more.
A Dog's Purpose (2017)
Read the book - it really is so much better!
I understand things have to change when making a book into a movie. But there was SO MUCH taken out of the book that made the story so complete! In the book the dog's story is all connected from each life and that's what drives his ultimate purpose. They could have at least left those parts in when making the movie, as the dog keeps reiterating those moments throughout the book. My husband (who didn't read the book) watched the movie with me and wasn't impressed. He said there wasn't much happening in the movie for the most part, I agree. I also don't like how they completly changed the book's ending for the movie! If you enjoyed the movie - which I probably could have had I not read the book - then go read the book!!
Reba (2001)
Hilarious!
I love rewatching this show. The writing is so funny! Van and Reba are my favorite characters, with the witty comebacks (Reba) or comical reactions to everything (Van.) Everyone else is great too. I love how well they handled several life topics and how Reba always has the best way to talk through it with anyone who needs to.
First Man (2018)
Drawn out and boring
I love learning about space. I find it fascinating. I, unfortunately, didn't learn more than I already knew and this movie drags out all the scenes until they are painfully boring. I couldn't wait for this movie to end.
Mary Poppins Returns (2018)
Enjoyed more than the original
I was never a huge fan of the original Mary Poppins. I didn't hate it, didn't love it, it was just kind of "OK." I hadn't seen it in years, but a few years ago when my daughter was five, we saw the stage version and she fell in love with it. So we bought the movie and she has watched it countless times since. As soon as we heard this movie was being made, we knew we had to see it.
Before we went, we read the first two books. I enjoyed seeing which parts they would choose to put in because there are so many different parts to choose from. I did like how Mary Poppins Returns parallels the original with the basic plot line and some of the sequences/song and dance numbers. But I felt this movie moved at a better pace, which is why I enjoyed it more than the original.
My daughter is over the moon excited with it and loves both movies.
Enchanted (2007)
Love finding other movie references
I saw this when it first came out and it's still my favorite 'Disney Princess" movie. I love watching it and catching all the other Disney movie references throughout. Plus the songs are pretty catchy. I really like how well the animations match to the real life characters and even the concept of switching between the two is a great change from the classic Disney movies, which I also love.
Shrek (2001)
Best Hidden Humor!
I remember seeing this in the theater when I was in high school. My friend suggested we go, I was hesitant, but we were laughing throughout the entire movie! I love how many hidden jokes there are for adults to enjoy while watching with younger kids. I now watch this with my own kids and remember the fun we had watching it for the first time in the theaters all those years ago.
A Wrinkle in Time (2018)
TOO much taken out of the book
First off, I know books turned into movies will always be different. However, this is the first one I saw where so much was eliminated that the movie just does not makes sense. Most of what I loved about the book was the journey Meg took to get to her father and all the events that happen along the way. This movie basically glossed right over those, which took out so much of the joy of the story. I went with someone who never read the book and she was so confused over this entire movie's concept, basically because the entire middle of the story-line was missing. I was really looking forward to this movie because this was one of my top five books growing up. It's so sad that the transition was done so poorly.
