Lolita (1997)
I have my own thoughts about this book
Was the name Humbert Humbert picked by Nabokov according to Linnaean taxonomy, as for instance a Northern Lapwing = Vanellus Vanellus, a binomial nomenclature? Lepidoptera love was the foremost pastime Nabokov knew (thaz right, Fkng butterflies). I just made this up but I never did quite find any explanation as to this double naming of pedophile Humbert Humbert (Hummingbird, Hummingbird).
According to myth, Poseidon fell in love with the beautiful nymph Korkyra, daughter of Asopus and river nymph Metope, and abducted her. Poseidon brought Korkyra to the hitherto unnamed island and, in marital bliss, offered her name to the place: Korkyra (Corfu).
"I was on my knees, and on the point of possessing my darling, when two bearded bathers, the old man of the sea and his brother, came out of the sea with exclamations of ribald encouragement, and four months later she died of typhoid in Corfu" ( Lolita, chapter 3)
Could it be that those bearded men were Poseidon and his brother Hades? Because this one "abduction" seems the way Humbert Humbert feels about his childhood love taken from him. And also, something which I have never read elsewhere before is that Typhoid in etymology means a.o. things Hazy, a term that frequently in this book alludes to Lolita's last name Haze (or something that rhymes on it). Also again "Nymph" is mentioned in relation to Poseidon.
There are more similar discrepancies/mysteries in this book that need solving.
Retroactive (1997)
Sci-fi = short 4 Science Fiction... not Science Fidelity
Why are a lot of people comparing sci-fi movies to the known boundaries of science? There is fiction and there is non-fiction.. but there is also science-fiction, which is also non fiction. There is always a counterintuitive element in these movies and when you are nitpicking it its like unweaving a rainbow for no apparent reason, comparing apples and oranges etc. Just because a movie lacks a waterproof logical basis does not mean it can't be a great (B) movie. The sheer fact that time traveling on macro human-level can't be done according to what we know today would also dismiss great movies like Back to the Future, Terminator series, etc. If you want reality: do not watch movies, for they are at best based upon it. That off my chest, I can safely say I enjoyed this movie quite a bit through empirical proof. To me it is not even about the time traveling situation, its merely the cinematography of the desert, the americana of it all.
La famille Bélier (2014)
deaf people are blind to the hearing
I only watched this movie for the plump sexy French girl featuring in it. Her parents in the movie put me off for they came across like very childish in their behavior, in sheer contrast to the former actress. The movie made the parents come across like utter retards, deaf ape-like mongoloids who only want to have sex all day and night. I know it's not like that, but it certainly looked as if we were beholding some adolescent little bo-beep trying to "herd" her deaf and dumb flock of three. The paraphrased sentence in this movie "how did your parents cope before you were born?" is key essence. Without spoiling anything there, watch it and be disappointed. It kinda reminded me of that series with Corky Fletcher, the mongoloid/down syndrome bloke, and his parents and sister - this time from another angle. Deaf people are not stupid, but my personal experience is that they are spoiled, because the hearing pay too much attention to them. They have some serious issues.
