The Black Phone (2021)
Meh, didn't really do it for me.
Sinister was sooo much better and darker and I was really hoping this would follow that vibe seeing as it was produced by the same team. A lot of loose ends and random plot points were thrown together in this one and while the acting was great and there were some creepy bits, overall it fell pretty flat for me and I'm head scratching at how this has anything above a 6.5 rating on here.
The Midwich Cuckoos (2022)
Makes me hate kids even more.
The show is okay and the kids are super creepy. Especially that girl Hannah with the rank hair and horse like overbite. Not the best show but pretty decent overall.
Inventing Anna (2022)
Don't get the bad reviews.
I really enjoyed this. Sure it was a little drawn out, but the acting and writing were really good. Julia is sublime as usual, despite her accent being annoying at times.
And Just Like That... (2021)
The writers should be fired.
I can't get over how woke (lame) the writers have made this show. They're literally checking off a list of trendy woke topics in each episode and it's so gross. Idgaf if the original show wasn't inclusive, it was iconic af and I miss it. HBO can keep this mess.
Old (2021)
I wanted to like it but no.
Honestly the concept is great but there were so many wtf moments and none of it made sense. I started to care a bit more during the last 20 minutes or so but at that point I'd aged 50 years just due to the stress of tryna figure out what the f was actually happening and where the story was going. Turns out nowhere!
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021)
Good story but not that scary
I enjoyed the movie and whilst the writing and story were good, it did feel like it was lacking the scare factor that the previous two movies had plenty of.
Hacks (2021)
So good!
As soon as I started watching it's quite clear that this show is loosely based on the late and great Joan Rivers. The writing and acting are so good and Jean is amazing as always!
Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar (2021)
Oh dear, this was not good.
I was looking forward to this cause I love the actresses as they're usually super funny, but what the actual f comes to mind. This mess of movie fell completely flat for me. I laughed at maybe one piece of dialogue but beyond that it was just stupid and silly and not in a good way. The best thing about it was getting to see Jamie Dornan be his beautiful self. Don't even bother with this movie.
The Flight Attendant (2020)
So far so good!
I can't with some of the GARBAGE comments on here trashing a perfectly good show. The lead actress never really impressed me on that awful Big Bang show but she's pretty good in this. I binged watched all 3 episodes and wasn't bored at all...a rarity!
The Witches (1990)
Forever obsessed
Just had to watch this after seeing the remake and whilst that wasn't bad, I've been reminded that Anjelica really made this movie. It scared me to death as a child and even though it's 30 years old, it's scarier and more unsettling than the 2020 version.
The Witches (2020)
Not a bad remake but the original is far superior!
The remake was okay but much lighter in tone than its predecessor and the cheesy humor was kinda cringeworthy. I would've preferred a much darker spin and more sinister vibe over this comical TV movie offering but oh well. Octavia was really good as always but the cheap CGI did let the movie down. It's also been very clear for a number of years now that Anne's forte are not accents. I mean she sounded comical and even Scottish in certain parts...like girl come on now. It goes without saying that Anjelica Huston's performance was much stronger and scarier in the 1990 version, but overall the cast, sets and writing were okay.
The Call (2020)
Boring and pointless
Besides a few creepy bits with Lin Shaye, the movie was pretty crap. No real story and boring.
Ratched (2020)
Loved it but expected more.
As always the writing, cinematography and acting are great as one would expect from a Ryan Murphy production but it's all getting very repetitive now. It basically has exactly the same feel as some AHS seasons as well as Feud. It would be nice to see him use new/unknown actors and try to move away from his signature campy vibe. The opening music also makes me think of Jonathan Creek lol.
Ava (2020)
I love Jessica but no.
This was basic garbage and I can't believe Jessica agreed to star in it. Don't these actors think before taking on roles these days.
Don't F**k with Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer (2019)
Super disturbing but great documentary
No words can even describe the lunatic that committed all these heinous crimes but this documentary was so well done. I don't think I've ever watched a documentary that's disturbed or stayed with me this much.
Monster-in-Law (2005)
Fun movie!
Despite all the garbage reviews slating JLo for her performance, the movie is actually fun! Since when was JLo tryna be the next Meryl people? All the sit at home critics need to pipe down and take this movie for what it is: light, silly fun that ain't trying to win no Oscars. Especially enjoyed Wanda Sykes and her chemistry with Jane was perfect.
Doctor Sleep (2019)
Loved it!
Hands down probably my favorite Stephen King film adaptation next to The Shining and Misery. All the recent Stephen King remakes like IT and Pet Semetary have been a bit silly imo, but this is a more than worthy follow up and it genuinely creeped me out with its eerie production. Bravo!
The Morning Show (2019)
Already hooked!
This is a great show that's been perfectly casted with great writing and solid performances. Rating this any lower than 6 baffles me. Can't wait to watch the rest!
Fractured (2019)
Way better then expected!
This was a surprisingly good little movie that kept me guessing the whole way through. Such a rare find too as most Netflix original movies are total garbage.
Joker (2019)
Phoenix was superb!
It goes without saying that Phoenix's performance was exceptional but the story itself was a little flat at times in my opinion. Nevertheless I was super anxious and tense throughout the movie and I really hope he wins best actor as he totally became the Joker.
Judy (2019)
Renee was great but movie falls flat
I really wanted to love this movie and while Renee does a great job at capturing Judy and her mannerisms, the overall story fell flat and was very meh to me.
It Chapter Two (2019)
Good but a bit disappointed
While I did enjoy the movie and it was very well casted, it was too long and dragged at times. For me the cheap CGI, cringe humor placement (audience members will literally laugh at a fake fart these days it seems) and campy acting made it all a bit silly. Overall there were a few jump scares that I liked, but I was hoping chapter 2 would've been much darker in tone.
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Mixed bag and not Tarantino's best
The first half was a real mish mash imo, kinda boring and I was like what is the story even. When the Dakota Fanning scene kicked in I wasn't bored though and it continued to be entertaining from there on. Brad looked great and gave an awesome performance. Margot was kinda meh though. Overrated but okay movie.
Big Little Lies (2017)
Season 2 didn't need to happen.
Great show but season 2 was a drag with a boring finale. The only thing that kept me watching was Laura Dern's great acting and Meryl's cameo.
The Lion King (2019)
Well done remake but feels second rate.
While the movie was done well and it looked great, it did at times look a bit computery. Also it really lacked the heart and emotion that the original had in my opinion and I'm only 26. Beyoncé's voice acting was pretty expressionless too and her over-singing in the songs with all the runs was totally out of place and just made me dislike her more. Simba was so freakin cute though.
