The Day of the Jackal (2024)
I'm totally into this!
Okay I'll be the first to admit I didn't see Eddie Redmayne as an assassin. Well he has totally made a believer out of me. With his cool demeanor and stoic attitude. I know this has been done before by way of television and big screen but with their choice of leads they bring in something new. I was happy to see Úrsula Coberó from Money Heist. I know she's been in a couple things since then and she always delivers. Haven't seen a whole lot from supporting cast, up to this point, but we're only half done with the series. We've been shown lots of excitement and I for one am absolutely rooting for Eddie, even though we know he's a killer. The creativity in gun manufacturing is really something to behold. I have no doubt things like these and many more, that are out of scope of our imaginations, have been and are being made. It's still cool to see. I'm excited to see where we go from here. If I need to, I'll come back and change my review when the season is wraps.
Heal (2017)
I went to a weekend with Rob Wergin
And I can't tell you with 100% absolute confidence this is ABSOLUTELY BULLS#IT. The only thing i left the weekend with was shingles and I am not kidding. I was so completely stressed out and trapped hundreds of miles from home, having gone with someone else, that by the time I got home, within 36 hours had a terrible and massive shingles outbreak. I'd never had them before and haven't had them since and this was years ago! Everything about this man was disgusting. From his blatant lies to his stealing money from the sick. I watched this documentary and it grossed me out and took me right back to that weekend. How in the world anyone could believe people like this is beyond me. They make an absolute fortune off people too. Funny how RW had a certain price up to this documentary coming out, then his prices more than doubled. Him stating his powers got stronger after this aired. MAKE ME VOMIT!
By the way I went to the weekend with cancer and still have it. Even though he asked everyone there had they seen it leave my body because he had! With a resounding "yes we did" from the audience. Ugh! How did he know I had it, because when he "lays hands" on you and shakes the ever loving s#it out of you, he saw my port. He was shaking me so hard trying to get me to fall over "feeling the spirit" or whatever, I told him to let me go because my port was very tender. He literally told me he cured a man from his cancer, that he watched him vomit it up in front of him. So yeah, he's a gross they're all frauds. I hated this doc. They should all be jailed for fraud.
It's Florida, Man (2024)
I think this is GREAT!
Only four episodes so far with episode three being my least favorite. That being said, I swear this has made me laugh out loud more than once. Being from the south and knowing all about Florida and its craziness I knew this would be a show for me. Danny McBride is one of my favorites so him being involved, meant it was a must watch. I think you could go to the internet on any day and type in those 2 simple words...Florida Man...and all matter of craziness and unbelievable stories will come up. Watching something years ago and someone was asked what boogeyman they were scared of the most and they jokingly said "Florida Man", because those are headlines all the time, Florida man does this, Florida man does that. I digress, okay so it's a hoot watching these famous actors act out the insane stories. Kind of reminds me of Drunk History which was an absolutely fantastic show! Kudos to the people who decided to get on camera and share their idiotic stories or crimes with the world. It's easy to watch and brings in a little bright spot that anyone should appreciate. Even if you're just relived, at the end, that this wasn't your family or anyone you know doing all this crap hahaha! I don't know why some hate it. Guess they have a HUGE stick up the rump. Or they believe they're intellectually and morally superior to these people and the ones who enjoy watching. Must suck to have no joy left. Anyway it's a fun little series and I hope we have many more episodes!
Teacup (2024)
By end of episode 2 I really want to know what's going to happen.
I don't see this being about zombies? Some have likened it to The Walking Dead. Or a book maybe too, I don't even know. I can't even remember now what some reviewers said. Anyway, I had no expectations, didn't have a clue what it was about. Don't have a clue if it's based off something else. I do know I was very confused by the end of episode one. Episode two didn't necessarily clear anything up, just added more meat to the mystery and now has me invested. Definitely found their footing by the end. Theres some subplots for sure. We can tell something is happening between several characters. Trusting no one inside the group should make for good storytelling with twists and turns. I'll watch the next episode for sure. I'll come back and edit review, as I see fit, when season is complete.
Patrice: The Movie (2024)
Oh. My. Goodness.
Well this documentary will have you all up in your feelings. It is so sweet and very eye opening. I am ashamed to say there are laws that I had no idea about. As someone who has worked since 15, paid taxes and struggled many times in my life, I've been pissed more than once about what my hard earned tax dollars go to. As a single mom to an almost 20 year old there were times when I wasn't sure we'd make it. I have ZERO doubt about the lazy, entitled, non working, able bodied young people who suck off the taxpayers with no regard to how hard we have to work. They do it for decades, then teach their kids how to scam the system. They are everywhere and they get the lions share. Not our veterans, not our disabled not our needy, it's the greedy and it's disgusting. Things have got to change or everyone, like me, will say F it one day and just quit working or quit paying taxes. Hell I couldn't get a DIME while being single, working as a hairstylist (don't work don't get paid) and going through chemo TWICE in the past 8 years. The system is so broken and so unfairly stupid at times. This documentary is an eye opener and it's so very sweet. I'll say this, Patrice is quite a woman with the love of some very good people. She is smart, talented and extremely artistic. Thank you for this. I needed this in my life. All the people we protect with our laws and these people, who are in very real need are left behind. Do better politicians. Be better humans. Learn better how to spend OUR money fairly.
Billy & Molly: An Otter Love Story (2024)
This is the SWEETEST documentary!!
Oh my, this was just the sweetest!! If you need a break from the chaos that is our world, grab a tissue and give this a watch. Aside from Billy living in an absolutely amazing place (albeit wet and cold) with picturesque views and wildlife he has a very sweet and understanding wife. He is the kindest of men I swear. Always knew he had a wee hole in his heart, but I bet he never believed it would be a baby otter who filled it. In a world where things seem to be falling apart daily, where we see so much disgust and hate for our fellow humans and of course animals, this is a much needed ray of sunshine, hope, love and understanding. I'm so glad I stopped to give this a shot. I laughed and cried. You can feel the love these two had for one another, Mary being so supportive and patient with her husband. The respect they have for one another as well as animals was beautiful to see. I loved this.
Nobody Wants This (2024)
This worked...like REALLY worked.
I found this late one night, didn't know anything about it but have always been an Adam Brody fan. I don't think I'd have ever put him and Kristen Bell as love interests. Ever! But they had really good chemistry. I'm not even a huge fan of romantic comedies. I came in blind, not knowing this was based on a true story, he wasn't a rabbi in real life, just Jewish. Anyway, It's listed as a sitcom and comedy. I don't see how it fits in the sitcom. Guess I'm picturing cheesy sets and laugh tracks. This had none of that. It was really good. The storyline was solid. I enjoyed the characters and the dynamics that developed. I am happy to see it's set up for another season, I hope we get one. It had some cheesy moments, what romcom doesn't. But it wasn't over the top and it wasn't constant. It well written and well acted. Was a nice surprise and easy to watch. Not a bunch of cussing, sex and drugs. I mean, it's still not for the kids because there's some of that stuff haha. It just got more depth. I hope this catapults Adam Brody back into the spotlight. I have missed him. I have two sister and I can tell you, these two did a great job portraying siblings. Justine Lupe was the perfect choice too! Great cast. I'm not mad at any part of it and will gladly binge another season. Kinda sad this one is over.
Exploding Kittens (2024)
I thought it was hilarious.
Not gonna lie I smoked up real good before and during so I was dying laughing. I can admit it might've been altered thinking. But the jokes landed, a lot! The characters were funny. I loved many of the dry whited one liners. For real! I mean come on..."he's like an onion ring that learned to cuss" that's funny to me. Some goofy immature humor. Some great references to pop culture. I don't know what all made me like it, I just do. You'd know from episode one if it's for you. They get funnier but if you're rolling your eyes in episode one. Just stop there, no harm. If you like it, well then just sit back smoke and enjoy.
IF (2024)
Very sweet.
I thought this movie had all the elements...great cast, music, theme, humor, sweetness along with wonder and amazement needed for child viewing. Although it's maybe more for adults. The wonder and amazement we have as children is so lost along the way, as we grow up and life is more about the grind. I think it's good to be reminded to just let things go. Be a kid, if even for an hour or two. We live in such tumultuous times anymore. To laugh and cry and feel like a kid isn't a bad thing. It warmed my heart that's for sure. I think Ryan Reynolds was a perfect choice. John Krasinski had his children in mind while making this movie. I imagine, like so many of us parents, he sat back and watch his kids just be happy. Playing, singing, dancing and believing! As an adult, I don't have to wonder where all that went. I know all too well the land of make believe is really hard to remember. With age is just worked out of us, literally and figuratively. It's an endless cycle of work, bills, laundry, cooking child rearing. Our lives aren't about us anymore when kids enter. Life is hard, So take a moment...watch the movie and just enjoy. Be a kid, believe in magic and just be. If you're someone who can't, then this isn't for you.
HPI (2021)
Could be better. Edited
I get the highly intelligent one has her own way of doing things, but her character is SOOOOOO ANNOYING!!! Breaking protocol, putting lives in danger. She's smug, arrogant, insufferable and EXTREMELY careless, ridiculous and immature. Why?? She could've been intelligent and have some integrity and understanding. Why make her so unlikeable? I don't understand. Have to suspend reality to just get through how the cops would handle this sort of behavior...ummm because they wouldn't! Can't take evidence home, break into places, steal things and almost set a restaurant on fire full of civilians and still be working with the police. This was just the first 2 episodes but she does this childish stuff over and over. Hopefully her behavior gets better because this isn't funny or cute. She's a damn grown up, write her as one.
After season 2 I took away a star. I won't be watching the next seasons. I really like the other characters and am invested in them. But the lead, woman, OMG she is an absolute moron! I don't care that she's supposed to be smart. High IQ with ZERO self awareness. Loud pushy and moronic in every single way. Zero regard for her coworkers, their problems, feelings or lives. She is so infuriating and immature. An absolute basket case. Why would they make her character SOOO unlikeable and utterly ridiculous? I just don't get it. If she was a real person, I would hate her with every fiber of my being. Oh and her BF and daughter suck too. Youngest kids seem to be fine. Mainly because one of them doesn't talk yet. This is just a train wreck. Could've been a great show.
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024)
I love anything Godzilla or King Kong. Such a missed opportunity!
I was so excited about them teaming up! While this was entertaining I'm a little bummed out. I wanted them to be together longer, fighting more battles against the enemies. We only saw them together for about 10-15 minutes. Although it's not as bad as the Godzilla from years ago, where we didn't see Godzilla grace the screen for a full forty minutes. We got to see the titans early on so that's always a huge plus. Maybe this will be the first installment of them partnering up. Now Kong has his tribe along with a Titan pet haha. Plus we need to see what mini Kong grows into! Along with Kong finding his tribe, so does Jia so that's good. Even though she choses to leave middle earth, at least we know the Iwi are still there. Action as always was good but still not enough of them together on screen. Humans I could take or leave. They don't really add much but I see how we needed them to kind of push the narrative. I'm glad I watched it but it's not my favorite.
Northern Lights (2023)
Trauma bonding...
So I really liked this show. It's not really a comedy though, even dark comedy isn't how I'd describe it. I might've chuckled a few times, mainly at the dad jokes. I thought the story was original and told very well. I like the way the story is filled in with flashbacks. We're never lost and the thread is easy to follow. Through their memories and conversations the story quickly takes root. It was sweet and touching and hits on very real points. These two needed the chance meeting to trauma bond but not in a tragic way. Unbeknownst to them, they were helping one another over some pretty large humps to the emotional breakthroughs they needed to try and move on. I thought it was well written with very likable characters. The bulk of the show happens over a weekend but we get years of the past with just a glimpse into the future. I don't mind filling in the blanks as to what I think their future will hold. Good show. Sweet and easy to watch.
Monkey Man (2024)
India's John Wick and I'm here for it!
Well I was pleasantly surprised at this one! I'd have never picked Dev Patel as a kick ass action star, but I'll tell you, he absolutely pulled it off. I don't know how I missed this one for so long, like at all. Maybe because I was rewatching John Wick movies last weekend it cued this one up for me. Regardless how, I'm glad I ran across it. Cinematography is nice. Although dark and seedy at times and I could smell India through the screen it felt authentic. With all the grit and all the beauty. It almost put me off when the trans man hit the screen but I get it. As much as I don't agree with that lifestyle, I don't believe you should be murdered for it and we know how they roll over there. Quite enjoyed the music as well. All in all a great movie and one I may just watch again one day. I will definitely be recommending it.
Hit Man (2023)
I enjoyed this!
I found this entertaining for sure. It was mostly lighthearted and funny. Easy to watch with decent enough characters and lively enough plot. I certainly can't say what, if much of anything, was actually true. We see some me things at the end to tell us one major thing didn't actually happen but I wasn't mad at it. Like it didn't change my mind about the movie or the guy who obviously was many people with many careers in his lifetime. He for sure lived enough for 5-6 people. It was fun to watch Glen Powell play an array of characters. I'd have liked to have seen more of some of them. This could've made a decent series. Retta is always great! Richard Linklater has a style and he leaves his mark in this one as well. Easy way to spend a couple of hours without having to think or feel much.
At Home with the Braithwaites (2000)
How in the world does this have a 7 rating.
Oh. My. God. I realize this show is twenty years old so some of the crap is outdated, especially the music. Then smoking inside, I could smell it through the screen. Anyway, regardless of all that this is one of the most infuriating shows I have ever watched!! Every single daughter should've had their ass whipped, thrown in jail or out of the house and then had their ass whipped again! The AWFUL dad and his disgusting juvenile behavior makes you absolutely hate him too. I had to fast forward several times because it gave me such a headache. The mom Alison was alright except for letting her gross family run and ruin her life. That's on her though, be a parent and show your kids what's acceptable. I had to finish it because I just had to know if they would get any better, they don't. I'm guessing that his is a series just showing how terrible families can be, it is not a comedy though. Nothing about it is funny at all. Usually I watch things and find more shows characters are in and what them. Not with this one. I am so put off by this series I'd stop watching another one if it had any of these people in it. Maybe it bodes well for them as actors, doing their job so good it made me hate them haha. But for now, I'm over this lot.
Pillowcase Murders (2024)
Greed over life...sadly a tale as old as time.
I would say this is surprising, people keeping murders under wraps for money but it's not. Our world today is full of greedy pigs. This was a well told documentary, didn't drag on too terribly much. Lots of videos and pictures and interviews kept it interesting. Very sad though. Just such a waste of lives that could've been stopped pretty early on. The man who committed all these atrocious crimes was an absolutely disgusting excuse of a human being. Had the communities, where the elderly women lived, paid just a TINY bit of attention maybe things would've been different. Cops failed in every single way for a long time too. I mean come on!! The smartest out of the bunch, for a while, was the worker who'd put things together, literally years before anyone else. And I truly don't understand why this wasn't a massive talked about story! I guess they're right, ageism played a huge role. If you like true crime go ahead and give this a watch.
50 First Dates (2004)
Still one of my faves. After all these years.
I know this is such a goofy unrealistic movie. I'm totally okay to suspend reality for a couple hours. I don't even know how many times I've watched this. So many weekends it's playing on a television I leave on for our cats haha. I'll be walking through the house, just going about my day and stop and watch if it's on. It just so damn sweet. I have always loved Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler. I love their chemistry in all their movies. Read not too long ago they were working on another one. Fingers crossed. The other characters are great too. Perfect setting for this one as well. At times it just makes you feel the sun on your face. Even the rainy days are beautiful. The animals are a nice addition and the music is just great. I am old now and maybe this reminds me of simpler times, when I first watched it, 20 years ago. Who knows. All I know is it's just so sweet and it's funny. Appropriate for most ages, and that's sure more than you can say about most movies in 2024. We've all been through a lot the last several years. If you need a feel good movie, this one might just do.
Maxton Hall - Die Welt zwischen uns (2024)
I didn't hate this at all!
Romantic comedy, love stories and the like aren't really my favorite. I just decided to give this a watch anyway. Figured it's free so I can turn it off without consequence. Well, I ended up binging the whole thing in one single day. Sure it's got some cheesy cliche elements what love story, told on screen, doesn't?? Initially I might've hung in because the leading man Damien Hardung is absolutely stunning. I mean he is so GD good looking I might've finished it even if it sucked. The storyline was decent. Acting wasn't bad at all. I throughly enjoyed the musical score, it was really good. The backdrop, in which the story takes place, is beautiful too. If they don't have a second season, I would live but I'm really hoping that's not the case. I would absolutely be here for another season. My suggestion...if you're not planning a next season, and want it to be a limited series then at least wrap things up ya know?? I mean damn at the loose ends! I didn't have any issues with the casting, they all fit their role nicely. I'll end with, Damian Hardung is so effing hot, he might've been the draw for several people, but yall left us wanting more so job well done. Now give us a second season where he's shirtless 99% of the time haha. Damnit man he's beautiful.
Hollywood Con Queen (2024)
Good lord some people are insane...
...I mean this whole story is insane. What a manipulative narcissist. Maybe some terrible things happened to him in his childhood or early adult years but make no mistake, this dude knew exactly what he was doing. He absolutely got off on it. An addiction that plagued a sick person I guess. Have to give the attorney some credit! She and her firm deserve a huge thanks because without them I'm afraid this mess would've stretched on another decade. This documentary is very easy to follow, doesn't get boring or repetitive. I think 3 episodes was just enough. Didn't drag but I was ready for it to be done. I think because Harvey gave me anxiety, even his voice started to grate my nerves but that's a me problem. One more con-man off the streets just for a thousand more to pick right up where he left off. I personally know of someone getting conned as I write this! She won't believe she's getting scammed, even though she's lost thousands and thousands of dollars, her home and the contents of her home. She's was in turn conning her kids out of money to send to her online boyfriend...who's half her age and she never seen his face I might add. Craziness. Shows though how people abandon all reality in hopes of furthering a career or for "love".
The Cleaner (2021)
I'm loving this. Unique and funny!
It took till the third episode for me to really get into this. Episodes, storylines and writing got smart and funny! I mean I guess it could be the medical Mary Jane, either way... I've laughed a lot. The storyline gets deeper, we learn more about our protagonist, who he is, glimpses of his past, as we get the meet different characters each week. By season two I was invested in Wicky's future and his happiness. No matter what happens with his friendships and love life, I will be happy to see him in new settings helping to solve the problems of his clients and sometimes solving a mystery. I think the show is well written and have enjoyed all the characters. Starting season 2 now. If I need to edit my review by the end, I will. But so far very easy to watch.
Lisa Frankenstein (2024)
So dumb but funny!
Lisa, Kathryn Newton was really good. Her comedic timing is spot on. My guess is she'll be one to watch in the future. She made me laugh. Was happy to see Cole Sprouse even though he didn't speak a word until the end. This movie is absolutely 100% goofy as hell but it made me laugh. I mean you pretty much know what you're in for with the title. This isn't an Oscar winner by any means but it was a decent way to spend a couple hours. I mean even her name. Lisa Swallows hahaha, that's just great. For once the stepsister wasn't a compete tool so that was nice. Loved all the 90's music and clothes too.
Fargo (2014)
Loved season 5
Man oh man this season had so many fabulous actors and I think they all did phenomenal jobs too. I enjoyed this last season more than the one before. It's a tall order keeping up with all the amazing characters and storylines I have no doubt. This one had it all as far as I'm concerned. Very likable people, ones you root for. And of course root for them to take out the bad guy(s) too. I was excited each week to see how the episode played out. Questions were answered and no plot holes that I can remember. Cinematography is cold and white as per usual but still beautiful. The score was good too. I have no complaints.
Letterkenny (2016)
Sad to see it go...
Even though the earlier seasons were better than the last few I still really enjoyed this show. It made me laugh many many times! I wish under the "Extras" they'd put all the outtakes. They're hilarious too! Glenn played his role absolutely perfectly. I really missed him this last season. We saw him a smidge and that was all. Stewart and Roald were fantastic. They had some of the best interactions with one another. Man they made me laugh! Reilly and Jonesy early years were great too. Just a perfect array of all kinds of characters. Even though the last season or two didn't garner as many laughs I'm still giving it a 10 because I enjoyed the series as a whole. Sad to see it go, but would be way sadder if it had the comedy gold it had early on. I'm sure I'll go back and watch a few seasons again.
Saltburn (2023)
Weird! But that's okay.
Okay so I thought most of the movie was odd some parts a little humorous. Like more of a dry dark whit. The parents were the funny ones. Some parts seemed unnecessary and strange(bathtub) or maybe as the story progressed we needed to know just how demented everyone is haha. Then there are some parts that you're like... What??? Like I thought 56 minutes in was going to be the weirdest part, ummm no I was wrong, at one hour 45 minutes in, yeah I'm gonna say that part takes the cake! Then the following scene, Alison Carver(Venetia) was amazing!! She did a fabulous job. Truthfully one of the reasons I didn't like this more was Barry Keoghan(Oliver) for me he just wasn't charming enough for his role. I don't know, just something never clicked with me. He just couldn't pull off the savviness his character should've had. Then we have the finale, the last few minutes actually changed how I felt. Great ending, they left nothing to the imagination. It's not going to be for everyone but if you like a character study that's got some crazy $hit in it, well this is probably for you.
Shining Vale (2022)
Took me a minute but then I got into it
Admittedly it took me a couple episodes to get the gist of this but once I did, I loved it. It's not in your face funny but the more it unfolded the funnier it was. They deliver their lines with ease and the dialogue is fantastic! Lots of cussing but that doesn't bother me at all. I have always loved Greg Kinnear no matter the role he is playing. Courteney Cox is great too. Mira Sorvino is stellar as always, as we're all the other recognizable faces. I did subtract a star for Gus Birney(Gaynor) as she's not my favorite. Maybe that will change in upcoming seasons. I really hope we get more of this show! I was excited when the second season came out, I was so afraid because it wasn't well known or widely watched they'd cancel it. Happy that wasn't the case. This show makes me laugh! It's just sooo out there, in a good way! Keep up the good work, I'll be here for all of it!
