Moral Orel (2005)
Terribly Offensive
In a sentence, I would like to state that this 15 minute short had obvious malicious intentions.
The storyline revolved around a kid named Orel. Orel had an out of control brother (Doughy), a father, and mother. The father becomes paranoid and feels that a Christmas sermon was directed towards Doughy. Eventually, the point is made clear that Doughy is illegimate, leading to parental separation. Orel assumes that his brother is Christ incarnate (AKA antichrist) and gives him such nicknames as, "My master, my lord, new Christ" etc. At one point, Doughy takes a nativity Jesus out of his cradle, snaps its head off, jumps into the cradle himself and begins rocking back and forth. The animation ends with Orel praying to God for Christmas to have a good outcome, although by Orel's watch there are only 2 minutes left until Christmas is technically over.
Common topics of satire in this film include: Christianity, Revelation, fatherless children, Judaisim, family dysfunction, and those who struggle with alcoholism. The themesong was appalling, I could not believe what I was listening to.
Possibly one of the most offensive shows I have ever seen (in regards to many religions, not just Christianity). The thing that enraged me about this is that Moral Orel was exalted as a "fun family feature". I knew something was out of line when I saw the TV (MA) rating, and read a review on the director.
...Yet, strangely enough, I could not find any information on the series itself, or screencaps! This was truly an offensive show that should not be aired, it detracts from "holiday spirit" Oh, yeah. It wasn't funny...at all.
Onegai Teacher (2002)
I don't know why so many preferred this to Please! Twins...
Firstly, it should be stated that Please! Twins, is in fact a spin off that came out in 2003, a year after Onegai Teacher was released. However, I thoroughly enjoyed Please! Teacher, as I thought it portrayed, as best as any given anime could, the post-pubescent worries of adolescent life. Additional to this, woven into the storyline was a poignant love story, although somewhat unrealistic, between student and teacher. I recommend this anime to all viewers, giving it a 7 out of 10. The reason I say 7 out of ten is due to the fact that there was some confusing parts, moreover, making it difficult to understand the synopsis. But overall it was very enjoyable! ~Tasukuchan~
