Chop Shop (2018)
Excellent throwback to 80's horror
I am a huge horror anthology fan and was excited to find this. It was a fantastic homage to the ole school 80's horror style. Babysitter comes over to watch the kid, who is watching horror movies hosted by a wife who killed her dead husband and they together are watching horror movies. Lotta watching goin on here and it works beautifully. The effects are very well done, soundtrack perfect and general production value exceptionally high. The acting is quite good, the sets are excellent. I'd have to put this anthology high on my favorites list now!
Carving a Life (2017)
Lovely Indie Film!
Beautifully executed indie film. All of us have mistakes in our lives. This film is an emotional story of that with nicely woven symbols throughout. The acting is very real as are the actors, with believable performances. A very nice storyline with most excellent cinematography. Just a really nice watch that will not disappoint.
Closure (2018)
Most excellent!
I'm tough on comedy and I found this well written film to be a top notch comedy/drama right up there with the best studio films I have seen. Very cleverly plotted and the lead, Catia Ojeda, was spot on in every situation with her acting skills. All the characters were amazing, the sets well done, the production value very high, and the laughs just hanging out there to grab. I would highly recommend a watch. It's both toughing and hilarious. Well done to all cast and crew!
The Dark Side of the Womb (2017)
Creativity reigns in this indie film!
This was one of the most unique horror films I have ever seen, and I have seen a ton! Quite bizarre in the best way possible! It is blood, gory and oh so different, plus it has heart! Well done production wise and just a ton of fun to watch. You won't forget this one!
Terror Tales (2019)
Creative, creepy tales well executed
A family travelling by auto has a blow out due to a board with nails being placed in their path by a psychopath. The following accident lands them captive to him. Michael, the husband, is secured in the front seat, while his wife and daughter are held in an attached cargo trailer. He is subjected to 3 macabre tales of terror that are indeed frightening. The first involves a successful female author who after having a baby, feels she has lost her edge to write, because of the new family addition. She proceeds to slowly poison the little boy causing him to become extremely ill. This is a tale of greed and self centered vanity. It's well done with moral overtones. The second tale is about a detective on the trail of a serial killer who is terrorizing a video store owner and his wife. The last is about an evil deity that possesses his victims.
The segments were very well produced and acted. There is a lot of special effects and great sets and locations. Overall it is quite entertaining and creative. Quite an undertaking with a large cast and loads of crew to pull it all off. Well done!
Perfect Feet (2019)
Very entertaining and informative
What an unusual and informative doc! I loved the extensive interviews with people across all spectrum's of feet related hobbies, businesses, fashion and more! I really learned a lot, even a new kind of toe sock that is revolutionizing running, to minimalist foot wear that's akin to going barefoot. It covers a lot in a clever and informative way. Give it a watch, it's not only entertaining but eye opening as well!
The Painted Warrior (2019)
Fascinating
Fascinating doc that is entertaining and mesmerizing as well. Obstacle racing is something I never knew anything about but it's a great 'survivor' type sport that is so engrossing and interesting. The paint job done by his wife is artistic and original and just gives him a curious look and sparks the imagination in this most unusual sport. I highly recommend it for some really fun viewing.
Breathe Breana (2019)
Inspiring!
Inspiring to the max! This is a documentary that will give hope and challenge you to meet your own limitations head on. Very insightful on the debilitating effects of cystic fibrosis and one young womans determination to rise above her circumstances and achieve her dreams. I hope she now knows about the new break through in cystic fibrosis just recently discovered that seems to be giving back those who suffer from it their life. Kuddos to entire cast and crew for a beautifully done doc!
Alone Together (2019)
charming and totally entertaining
This was the first feature film produced by the students at the University of Oklahoma and it is a very solid film. I loved the cinematography and editing and the soundtrack was so dead on for a comedy. Good performances from all cast. It was cleverly written and directed as well. Way better than most first attempts. I found it charming and totally entertaining.
Shady White (2019)
Great crime caper in the South
Great crime caper flick shot in my home state, Arkansas. I was impressed with the great production value of this film. The cinematography is excellent and the location shots are very dramatic and indeed look just like Arkansas. The plot will keep you invested and the performances are quite good as well. Overall, just well made and engaging. Give it a look. Hope to see more from this director.
Blind and Battered (2019)
Raw and fascinating doc.
This documentary is raw and unfiltered and addresses the real life challenge of a young boy and man neglected and brought up in a criminal environment. It reveals why someone who only has known this kind of lifestyle takes so much stock in how much he can accomplish in the criminal world he occupies, even though he is blind from a self inflicted gunshot wound. He tries that much harder. It's hard to take at time, you are sympathetic towards Wayne and get to take an inside look at a real life kingpin and what they involves. It's a fascinating look into that world and one you should experience by watching this informative doc.
Morbid Stories (2019)
Good indie horror
Five morbid stories to keep you on the edge of your seat. Candy just broke up with her boyfriend and decides her house is too creepy to stay in now. She packs up herself and her two doggie companions up and leaves the house only to hear a radio broadcast that the US is being attacked and the undead are roaming around. She proceeds with her roadtrip nontheless. In and out of her journey we get to see what else is happening in other parts of the country with short vignettes which are creepy and spooky to say the least. They involve friends playing with a Ouija board when one of them gets possessed, strangers who have an accident on the road and invade the home of innocent citizens who are unaware they are actually zombies, and my favorite, a sequestered writer staying at a very creepy cabin deep in the woods. All the segments are well written and full of gooey blood and gore. I particularly liked the performance of the writer but overall good direction and action. Enjoyed the diversity of these told from different perspectives during an apocalypse. Nice wraparound and twist as well as Candy finds out what happened to her boyfriend. Will hit the spot for most horror fans. Anthologies are great and this one is a must see.
Thrasher Road (2018)
An Indie with Heart
An indie with a lot of heart and great performances. Poor pregnant Chloe, she is dumped by her boyfriend, kicked out of her apartment and near penniless. She and canine buddy, Thrasher, set out on the road back home to mamma only to have car trouble, a crash and stranded in no where desert land. Momma can't come to her rescue so she sends negligent father Mac, who is unwelcomed but needed. The two set out again on a daughter estranged father road trip. The movie has a great story plot and will hold your interest through out with a scenario that many people can relate to no doubt. Great cast, direction and overall good production value. Give a watch, well worth it!
This Is Meg (2017)
Adapt or die!
Poor Meg is learning the hard way that you must adapt or die! It's not easy navigating the world of Hollywood movie life. Meg is living in the past and being hit head on with changing her promotional self to current standards, which do not sit well with her. With an excellent script and outstanding actor performances, This Is Meg is a mega delightful and funny film that is sure to tickle even the most dead funny bone. It did mine and I suggest you give it a watch. Great production values as well to boot! Great job Alex Ferrari and team!
Are You Glad I'm Here (2018)
Female bonding at its finest
Different cultures collide in this indie gem about two women from different countries that become fast friends. Kirsten is an American teaching English in Beirut. Nadine is her battered and abused neighbor. It underscores the vast difference in cultural upbringing in a way that makes this film very entertaining. Outstanding performance by all cast as well.
A Slice of Life on Barcelona (2015)
Sexy and engaging
Gritty indie drama that tells it like it is in the underbelly of Barcelona where drugs, street living and overall hardships thrive. It's a story of relationships and how they intertwine the good and the bad. Sometimes sexy, punk themed and raw, this indie film goes where only indie films can go which is why I love them!
Avalanche (2018)
Engaging indie
You have to admire indie filmmakers who often must rely upon good storytelling without all the bells and whistles that big studios have. Avalanche has done a great job of crafting an engaging drama/comedy all in just one location. It holds your attention and is cleverly plotted and executed. Actors were on point and I was thoroughly entertained throughout.
Sisterhood of Death (2012)
Quite a lot of fun!
Fun and campy new indie movie that is full of comedic horror. Done just right with touches of scary and over the top humor. Witches and demons were never so much fun! High production value as well round out this entertaining flick.
Viral Beauty (2018)
A true indie gem!
I really liked this funny and insightful indie film. It is so current to our social environment and the effect it has on people. Marsha Day posts an unabashed video online outlining her ideal man to date. She is bashed, made fun of and supported as well by her defenders. It becomes a real online debate and is picked up by a social media personality and goes viral. Along with it comes the hard road to stardom overnight for poor Marsha. You will pitty her, laugh with her and root for her throughout this hilarious romp that is beautifully executed and wonderfully acted from every part. One of the best indie films I have seen in awhile. Kuddos to entire cast and crew!
MIA (2019)
Beautiful storyline
If you like meditative and realistic stories, this one is for you! I found it quite engaging and relatable as we all have lost some dreams and had to take a new course in life. Galia Barkol has crafted a masterful story and plays the lead beautifully. This film is studio quality, very professionally done with outstanding performances from all the actors. Watch and like!
Nowhere Mind (2018)
Out of Body storyline
Sit back and enjoy a slow burn but you will enjoy the wait. First off, this was a beautifully shot film. The cinematography is gritty, dramatic and just plain spectacular. The production designer was spot on. A to the actors. Very believable and natural. I have to admit I never saw the ending coming. No spoiler in this review but if you are expecting a fairytale ending, look elsewhere! I love the ironic twist and the roadtrip to get there will have your heart going out to this poor guy and then some. Really unique and entertaining cinema from a talented filmmaker.
The Edict (2017)
Psychological Bender
Really well done indie horror with some of the best production values I have seen in this genre. Hollywood quality cinematography with creepy landscapes, spooky set designs and a color palette that is perfect for the decent into madness this movie portrays. Kevin and Jessi are a married couple that have inherited a big, ole creepy house from Kevin's uncle. Jessi has a history of mental illness and is supposedly on the mend, but the experiences in the house reignite problems. It's very well done and the soundtrack is superb for elevating the nuisance of the atmosphere that is so expertly produced in this first rate horror/thriller. Give it a look, well worth your time.
Joyland (2019)
Get Ready to Laugh a Lot!
What this film lacks in budget is made up for with a highly entertaining comedy sure to have you cackling throughout. Well, why not throw a big bash celebrating the end of your house arrest? And why not invite all your cra cra friends to the par-ta. It just might put your release in jeopardy, but that is what all the fun is about. Very funny characters and situations. Check out this indie comedy hit. I'm glad I did!
Better Than Love (2019)
No Sugar Coating
If you like a dose of realty you will really dig this drug addiction film. It's gets down to the real nitty gritty with a no nonsense storyline and acting that is in your face real. A very real life like portrayal of the slippery slop of drug addiction and the impact on the soul and others around you. There is some real heart and compassion in here as well. Very well executed with complimenting production values make this a real indie winner.
Ring Ring (2019)
Great Combination of Humor and Horror
I have to say this is one of the best indie films I have seen in awhile. It is on par with Hollywood studio films. The cinematography is excellent, the acting is spot on and every other aspect of the production value is top notch. I love the characters! The story is never dull or slow. You will constantly stage engaged. The house of horror is not monster driven, except for the human kind I mean. So well done it surely will win a number of awards. Kuddos to entire cast and crew. An A in my film book!
