Fool Me Once (2024)
Certainly fooled me!
What started off a decently interesting story is marred by bad acting, cliched characters and total lack of an actual story.
After the first episode, random things keep happening and you are waiting for all these things so somehow connect and make an actual story, but surprise surprise it never does.
Again, it won't make a big difference if they replaced everything after, the first episode to the big reveal in the last episode, with videos of chimpanzee sleeping.
It looks like the script/story writer wrote a chatgpt prompt which went like this 'I want an script for 8 episodes, Just make sure there is a murder in the 1st episode and it's solved 8th episode and fill the rest with whatever you can think of, it doesn't have to make any sense'
To be honest, even ChatGPT won't write a such a bad story.
Your time is better spent watching a ceiling fan rotate.
The Brothers Sun (2024)
Neutral to excited to disappointed
I wasn't sure what to expect when I started watching it, but was pleasantly surprised. It was light weight, fast paced, good acting and decent if stereotyped Asian gangsters story and also decent action scenes.
Before you read ahead, go ahead and avoid this show, because the thing worst than a bad show is a good show that goes down the drain.
So why have I rated it 1 star? Because I just hate it when writers pull a deus ex machina to solve a unsolvable situation. The scene when Michelle Yeoh is taken hostage and is rescued by old ladies is just stupid and unbelievable.
Second, the whole story after a couple of episode seem to rest on the stupidity of the main character. He screws up so the story moves a little ahead and that is taken care of and then again he does something. It's just rinse and repeat after that.
The first few episode built the characters and made them lovable and then you just start to dislike every one of them. It's almost feels like the writer ran out of ideas after a couple of episodes.
So much potential lost.
World War II: From the Frontlines (2023)
Almost fictional! Extremely inaccurate!
I would like to start by proposing, that we start a petition to ban Netflix from making any historical documentaries.
I love documentaries and documentaries based on world war 2 are my favorite category, but this is not a world war 2 documentary. The footage is real and is from the actual war, but the history is twisted, skipped or in some place just plain wrong.
The thing about world war documentaries is that you will always find a bias, based on which country produced it, so I always expect a little twisting off facts. But this was not twisting or adding bias, this was just plain making up stuff as you go.
This is what happens when producers/director decide that the audiences are stupid and will swallow anything as long as it is presented nicely. To be fair, seeing the ratings here, they might not be wrong.
Come on people, keep giving these guys high ratings and next documentary on world war 2 will have aliens and predators..
Now that I said it, Alien Vs Predators world war 2, might be more historically correct than this!
A Murder at the End of the World (2023)
So much potential wasted
When I watched the first episode I was so sure this was going to be one of the better shows of 2023, boy was I wrong.
The protagonist, Darby is one of the worst ones I have ever encountered in a seemingly big budget show. She gets worse as each episode passes.
The story starts off strong but start going down slowly and than takes a Game of Throne level leap downwards by 5th Episode and than another and than one more.
And I understand there is a certain level of creative license when it comes to technology , but come on man, this weird AI will kill you is getting stupider, terminator was believable because we knew what we are expecting. This show, not at all.
Even worse is the ,over the top God Level Hacker, who somehow also has the deduction skills of Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poiret. Again come one man, how lazy are writers getting.
I kept watching it hoping that it will might pick up the tempo and but sadly it doesn't.
Don't waste your time with this pathetic waste of time.
Travelers (2016)
Brilliantly Done
I binged watched the first season on the day of its release. After the series ended after season 3. I have rewatched the series about 5 times and I am still amazed with the brilliant acting and I mean unbelievably brilliant acting from people I had never seen on the screen (except 2 decently famous actors).
The story is sci-fi, time traveler's trying to save the world genre, but it is so different and refreshing. Every character is so well defined and it's hard to not fall in love with everyone of them. The storyline is simple yet very powerful. This show is an homage to how a simple story can be made an awesome with with decent direction and great acting.
The only thing even remotely negative about the show is the actress who plays the wife of the character 'Grant Maclaren' and their marital issues. She is the black sheep in this pool of talented people.
And absolutely nothing irritates me more than a show deciding it's more important to focus on the intricacies of a marriage when there are 7 billions lives at stake including the couple. But the saving grace is that it's in the last season and only part of 1-3 episode.
Don't miss the show.
Sisu (2022)
But why!!
Imagine taking Arnold Schwarzenegger in Commando plus Terminator, combined with Sylvester Stallone in Rambo, and they than combined with all the Spartans from 300 and you get this over the top, unbelievable character who can put Thor to shame in a battle. He is also Captain America, where he fights a whole bunch of Nazis while every conceivable weapon is been fired at him , but all he has to do is hold a shield up and wow he is saved. Also he jumps on plane using a pick axe and survives a plane crash, a serious plane crash because he straps his seat belts, and by the way that whole crashed plane goes inside a marsh and he comes out walking. Man, this guy can give Superman a run for money and guess what, he is not vulnerable to Krytonite.
If this was promoted as a superhero / fantasy genre, I would have shut off my logical thinking and would have tried to enjoy it. But this was a supposed to a second world based , survival of a tough protagonist story.
The cinematography is beautiful but even that fails to make this badly written, over acted and absolutely pathetic story line bearable.
I have no idea what the script writers or director was trying to do. This is just a bunch of absolute nonsense out together in form of a story,
If this was an attempt to glorify the Finnish forces during the Second World War, they have failed badly. I am sure there were a thousand of story that showcase their bravery and they could have been showcased instead of this pathetic piece of joke.
My Dad the Bounty Hunter (2023)
Horrible
The only thing good about the show was trailer. Main protagonist are 2 very irritating and extremely loud kids. Me and kids tried really hard to watch it, but gave up. I know a animated show is pathetic when the kids prefer going to bed than actually watching that show.
The show revolves around 2 kids and a bounty hunter father and all that happens is the kids, keep doing really really stupid things and almost get themselves and their father killed.
And they don't learn anything and just keep doing more stupid things and all the time they are loud.
Honestly, I hate shows/movie with over loads of morals , but this made me feel like if I let the kids watch it for too long, they will forgot that action have consequences and human's can actually learn. Imagine dumb and dumber but not funny and extremely loud.
Troll (2022)
Norway gots its own monster
Looks like someone in Norway got fed up Godzilla, aliens and even Thor landing up in US, and how the Americans get to show off their planes, super secret bunkers and that scientist/protagonist that saves the world. The director/producer decided that it was time the world knew that Norway also has all of this including their own monsters/supernatural beings and it's time to show them to the world.
It's an old cliche'd tale that could have been at least done a little better, way too predictable and total lack of anything original makes it a waste of time. I can't believe I had set a reminder on Netflix for this.
HIT: The First Case (2022)
Are we getting stupider?
I have no idea what the makers of this movie were trying to do. It was a pathetic attempt at suspense and a thriller. And it so easily normalizes people being tortured because the cops feel like doing it. The biggest tool our mystery solver in the movie has is torturing people and giving them drugs to 'extract' the truth.
Just when you think Indian cinema has reached a new level of awesomeness, with shows like Family man and Sacred games, comes this total disaster.
Even older shows like Karamchand and Bhoomkesh (the one in 90s) had a million times better flair and aura of mystery than this waste of time ever will.
My advice is to skip this and stare at your ceiling fan, trust me that is more interesting than this pathetic mystery.
The Good Lord Bird (2020)
Didn't expect it to be so good
Was never an Ethan Hawke fan, but show change it. It's a beautiful mix of satirical comedy, drama and western combined with the serious backdrop of slavery. At no point does it feel slow, the dialogue are so well timed and almost every actor shines in their respective roles.
I was half way off to sleep when I started the show but 20 min of watching, I went and got myself a couple of coffee so that I could binge watch before I sleep.
I don't understand how I have never heard of the show and I found it by accident on a streaming service, something made so well should have been more famous according to me
Highly recommended!
A Discovery of Witches (2018)
Great show! Bad bad acting by lead
When I watched the pilot episode, I couldn't imagine that I would like the show so much. Highly entertaining, decently fast paced and overall one of the best shows I have seen.
I am giving it a 10 star even after what I feel is one of the worst acting in a lead role ( Teresa Palmer) . Her acting is as bad as Steven Seagal's and her emotional range is equivalent to a block of wood.
The Lincoln Lawyer (2022)
Fast paced and interesting!
It's not going to win awards, but it's good entertainment. The most important thing is it's paced so you don't lose interest. Most thrillers/mysteries nowadays drag on and on with little to no content. But this show stay true to its story and it's a fun watch.
Cellular (2004)
Stupid , really stupid but still watchable
If you want to even get through this movie, play it on mute.
This movie is what happens when you don't pay your writer. The premises of the story was really good and it could have been a brilliant movie.
But no, they had to go and mess this simple plot and make the main character behave in ways that will make a bowl of porridge seem smart.
The cast is nice but I have to wonder how A-Lister like these don't go tearing out their hair or at least protest when they read brain dead scripts like these.
Invasion (2021)
Really Tried to Like it
I love Sci-fi's but this has to be one of the worst shows on Apple. Way too slow, bad acting and even worse camera work and lighting. There are scene in which you can't even make out what is happening and this is playing on a top of the line OLED TV.
6 episodes in and you don't know which way the story is going to go. Please ensure you have some headache medicine ready if you want to watch it.
The Blacklist: Nachalo (2021)
How bad can it get ?
Used to be one of my favourite shows, it's sad to see what pathetic show it has become. This season and especially this episode made me want, to never watch this show again.
They used to have such a great continuous rhythm every episode, but they decided they wanted to change things up and ended up making a brilliant show into a pathetic mess.
Doctor Who: Orphan 55 (2020)
Worse Doctor Who Episode ever
I have been a fan on doctor who and have sat through some not very entertaining episodes which pop up once a while. But this has to be the worse episode ever, I could feel my brain shutting down and almost made a vow to stop watching doctor who for good.
