Wrecker (2022)
Horrible writing coupled with horrific acting
This movie seems like it was written, directed, and played by a bunch of stand-in "actors" and people that have been extras in multiple projects. These people somehow think they are part of Hollywood, and are dead set on turning out hot garbage like this movie, Wrecker. The writing is absolutely ridiculous. The acting is over the top and cringy. There are no shining stars, or moments. The lead guy has a tremendous physique, but zero acting skills. The storyline and plot are absurdly stupid. The cinematography has a 1980's vibe, but not in a good way. Overall, I couldn't even finish this tragedy. This is where horrible movies go to die.
The Power of the Dog (2021)
Brilliant film, that is certainly not predictable
I was perplexed upon finishing the movie, and wasn't quite sure if I actually liked it, or not. Ultimately I decided that I did, even though the ending was not at all what I was expecting. Benedict Cumberbatch was the clear star of this film, but the other actors all turned in fine performances. The story was a bit slow at times, and there are points during the movie where the plot line sort of lets things die, but overall I felt the movie was well done, and the actors truly pulled off masterful performances. Cumberbatch's Phil character especially rang true to me, and I related to his character far more than I'd like to...as he was a terror that most people tended to avoid...except for the ranch-hands, who all seemed to adore him...though I suspect much of that was also out of fear. Jesse Plemons had no trouble turning in another performance as a supporting actor, as he usually does, and I'm sure he enjoyed acting with his real life partner, Kirsten Dunst. Kodi Smit-McPhee (whom I've never seen before), did a commendable job in his role, but I struggle to think of how his career will go in film, with his obvious physical limitations.
Payback (2021)
Very stereotypical mediocre movie
The main character, Mike, is an obvious Jax Teller rip-off from Sons of Anarchy, without the motorcycle club. Everything about this movie is just passable. The acting, the story, the cinematography. There's nothing here that you haven't seen before. Very mediocre.
