Frozen (2010)
Being Indoors Is So Much Safer
Iv'e never been a fan of survival movies mostly because they're predictable and because MOST have to do with being stalked by animals. I stumbled upon Frozen one day and i heard some things about it but I decided to see it for myself. This movie has to be the most terrifying survival film ever. I couldn't tell you what is worse being frozen to death, jumping from 50 feet in the air or being attacked by wolves but this movie pretty much got me thinking that staying indoors is the safest place on the planet. Even if your not a fan of skiing or winter sports in general this movie will grab a hold of you because it downright has a real feel to it no CGI, no bad acting but REAL emotions
The Wolverine (2013)
Pretend Origins was never made!
I want to start off by saying that read my title and trust me look at origins as never having been made. The Wolverine is a Xmen movie i can feel good about again because quite frankly ever since X2 and "maybe" Last Stand (yes i like last stand) all xmen movies were very shall i say slow and boring. Origins was by far worse then First Class but First Class i still felt was rather slow paced and kinda bland acting for the most part. Now that we have Wolverine i feel like the films can get back on track with what made Xmen and X2 so much fun to begin with.
Of course there are some points in the movie i found somewhat "cliche" but still Wolverine is definitely Marvel's answer to the Dark Knight where its a movie about dark times and superb acting not just blowing stuff up.
So even if your not an Xmen fan you still should look at this movie as pure summer fun with a brain not dumb summer fun with bad acting and no plot
Iron Man Three (2013)
Finally A Good Third Movie
Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man is irreplaceable like Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and once again Robert/Tony Stark shows off why we love him so much in these movies.
Iron Man 3 is one of those hard to create movies when it comes to making a perfect trilogy but Shane Black managed to pull it off quite well i believe. The personalities he puts into his characters coupled with a heck of a lot of action is just top notch in my book.
And Ben Kingsley as the Mandarin was something I have been waiting for in an Iron Man film and he does deliver a presence that dare I say is a successor to Heath Ledgers Joker
Transformers: Fall of Cybertron (2012)
Prepare to be WOWED
Fall of Cybertron is everything us fans hoped to be that we didn't get in War for Cybertron. Colorful characters, devastating weapons, and an awesome story. This game improves so much from its predecessor that one has to wonder why we even played the first game to begin with.
Most of the original robots do appear but some have small cameos and aren't playable. However High Moon Studios gives us characters that we could only hope to play as. Grimlock, Soundwave and even the Combaticon Bruticus is playable in some levels. However like most games it does have it's problems
Your health system will drain considerably during a fight, there is no cover oddly in a third person-shooter cover game, and combat is somewhat not as effective as before.
But Fall of Cybertron is everything we want and more from transformers so I highly recommend it next time you visit a store
The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
You Don't Owe Us Anymore Mr. Nolan
Mr Nolan has once again exceeded our expectations. The Dark Knight Rises while less complex the it's predecessor sort of lacks the action element Batman Begins and the Dark Knight had.
TDKR is a very well told story, it sort of humanizes Batman/Bruce Wayne in a way that hasn't exactly been told before and just like before Christian Bale does not fail to meet our expectations in the acting department.
Bane was exceptional as the main villain it was actually nice to see a so called "less famous" villain in the sense then it would have been if Nolan put in the Riddler or Penguin but I'm glad Tom Hardy gave it his best he really blew me away. Anne Hathaway as Catwoman was stunning but she was different from her comic book counterpart in just a few small ways i wont spoil anything for any one so no worries.
Chris Nolan did with Batman what Sam Raimi did with Spiderman he made the character well liked and it pains us to have this franchise end but I'm glad it went out with a big bang well done Mr Nolan
The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
Good but not necessarily an Improvement
I feel like after years of playing spider man games this game doesn't "quite" live up to it's hype. The game centers way too much on the web rush mechanic and the combat is more or less hard to maneuver due to the fact that it's not your standard beat n kick spider man but a well more lick spy like spider man. I also think that in this game it's a little too easy to die whether your fighting villains or just the standard thugs your just constantly getting hit every fight. The graphics and the game overall is interesting it's just the controls however which i think need be redone so this game is pretty much a rental and then if you really are into it buy it but as i predicted it'll be a long time b4 we have a game as good as spider man 2
The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
Worth Seeing NOT Worth Praising
The Amazing Spider man could be treated as a glass half full/empty depending on which side of the fence you are on. Compared to Sam Raimi i think that this film does not measure up at all. TAS i agree with most critics saying that it was too soon to make a reboot since its only 5 years after spider man 3. While this movie may have some nice elements to boot it is in a way not Amazing like the 1st film. This one lacks any decent action or romance i feel like Marc Webb didn't really put any effort into this film or at least not enough.
I have little complaints of the actors but some complaints against the characters they play. Andrew did a tolerable job as the webhead but he was more rebellious then a nerd which peter parker is NOT. Emma was the same as Gwen but she lacked any innocence gwen has in the comics. Making her a science intern made her look occupied instead of loving. Rhys was great as Connors but the lizard i felt like was too much off character. Lizard's plan while relatively the same as in most comics did not live up to doc ock and "maybe" the grren goblin but was better then sandy or venom.
In short this film i feel like should not have been made. I see this film as a knockoff to a great spiderman film when compared to raimi
Battleship (2012)
Transformers and Battle LA had a baby
I think Hasbro might be trying a little too hard to try and make their products more amusing and fun. With transformers being mainly the first it worked kids love robots in disguise. Then we get G.I.Joe which wasn't better but wasn't worse either it was like watching James bond without the suit. Now we have a "board game" based movie and now i finally understand the meaning BORED (BOARD)
Battleship is just a marketing technique to me its like Peter Berg said hey i wanna do transformers mixed with a little Battle LA and i will call it Battleship?
This movie might please people who are Navy seals or people who just love war but this movie in terms of characters plot and design is ridiculous heck I'm sure some if not most people will or may agree with me on this when i say Revenge of the Fallen was a better summer flick
The Avengers (2012)
About Time Marvel
I've always loved Marvel films ever since the original Spider man back in 2002 Marvel to me was so much better then DC. Spider man was my favorite superhero and i thought he was awesome and couldn't be beat. But then Iron Man showed up 6 years later and at the end i found out it was just a thread for an Avengers film. Then with some other films in order we the fans have finally gotten what we deserve and that is the crown jewel called THE AVENGERS. This film defiantly deserves the award for most anticipated summer film, best superhero film and so on. If there is one flaw i had to give this film its that this film has an ending to it. Me I could watch Iron Man Thor Hulk etc fight evil a million times over and it would never get old because Stan the man Lee has created something special with each character in Marvel and those qualities have finally come out in this film
The Three Stooges (2012)
This Was COITENLY a Dead Homage to the Original
I am A Huge stooge fan the non-stop slapstick of these three are hilarious . Moe,Larry and Curly i consider the three wise-men of comedy and to me they can never be topped as comedians. This "new" generation of three stooges is really nothing different as far as Moe slapping Curly or the three of them all together causing accidents. But what is kinda new is that the movie revolves around a different plot of sorts, one that involves Murder. I wont spoil much but basically if you've seen an innocent person get wound up in a murder plot between husband and wife then the 3 stooges aren't gonna surprise any one. I say this movie has great potential as being one of the earliest comedies in 2012 maybe even the best comedy film in the last 5 years
Secrets in the Walls (2010)
Decent Ghost Story
I really have no idea what got me into watching lifetime movies when I'm a 19 year old boy who should enjoy partying and going out but after watching this movie i sort of liked it.The basic plot is really nothing i haven't seen before, the only thing different i really found intriguing was that the girl (Greta) was boarded up inside the house ALIVE. Now that i rarely see in a ghost movie which is i guess the reason why i watched this movie. The 3 woman of the story especially Jeri Ryan, and Kay Panabaker play their roles wonderfully and i could watch this movie again knowing full well i'd be scared again. Secrets in the Walls is nothing new to me and yet i still felt like i watched an accomplished film.
Once Upon a Time (2011)
ABC has done it again
Growing up with mainly Disney i was sort of happy that a new show that has all the fairy tales and Disney characters come to life was going to be on ABC. Part of me really likes what it has become and all the characters really fill their roles in a mysterious yet fantastic way.I see this show going on for a while as any one who has read these stories or seen these movies will know that good always wins and evil never stands a chance.Only thing im not sure about is how well the producers have managed to make the central protagonist (Emma) she seems a little rough around the edges but hopefully she will come around in future episodes
Shark Night 3D (2011)
Something Different but Nothing New
I am a hugeeeeee fan of shark movies (Jaws) is my favorite and when i saw this movie was coming out it actually looked pretty decent. But after seeing what its all about I realize that its really nothing i haven't seen before.Shark Night is a typical teenage film with sadistic animals and people waiting in the wings getting ready to strike. The only thing that is truly different about this movie is that the bad guys (ironically not the sharks) are the whole reason why the teens are killed off one by one.I wont spoil anything else but Shark Night as the title suggests is basically what you get nothing new and everythings the same
Final Destination 5 (2011)
What's Changed?
Like the Saw films Final Destination is merely a rouse to receive more money rather then plot, suspense etc. BUT unlike the Saw films where there are actually different types of death, in Final Destination all deaths are the same and it's none other than fate itself. FD5 was better then the comedic FD4 but like i say nothing new just random teen actors we never seen before nor heard from being killed off 1 by 1 by the Grim Reaper itself the only reason why I think any of these movies are OK is because of how creative the death scenes can be. But you also have to admit the series is running out of "oh how can we kill a lot of people the way death would" ideas. FD5 is a standard see it, skip it, or forget it film.
Teen Wolf (2011)
Surprisingly Cool
Im a teenage boy who doesn't really like to put up with all the werewolf ,vampire, true love crap but after seeing this series from the pilot onward i am actually surprised it turned out this dark and devious. Unlike most of todays werewolf monster mayhem this series doesn't focus on the love between two people but rather a teen trying to cope with a curse while still managing to live life through a normal persons eyes. And low and behold it doesn't really work. To me this acts more like a superhero type of flick such as spider man or batman basically a normal person trying to live with a curse or power you cannot control.Teen Wolf is one of the few shows on MTV thats good and i hope it lasts for a while on the air
Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011)
Short but FUN
Dark of the Moon is probably the best game in the series because there is a lot going on in the short amount of time you play, the stealth force addition is amazing and the characters are likable. But i think this game probably has the most amount of flaws in the series as well. As i said above it's too short i roughly completed it in about 5 hours which with War for Cybertron it took me about 1 day and a half. The second problem is the combat. Like WFC the combat is a 1 button press but the robots this time around don't use weapons (save for prime) just fists or feet which isn't quite as "flashy". Overall DOTM is quite an enjoyable experience that i believe will please hardcore fans and newcomers alike
Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011)
Dark of the Moon is DARK indeed
i went to see the film opening night filled with higher expectations then the loud and brutal revenge of the fallen and i must say i was NOT disappointed at all. Some if most people may compare this film to be the same as the 1st film and better then the 2nd one i will say that Dark of the Moon IS the best film in the trilogy here is why i think that
What this movie does better then the 1st is that the 1st had more humans then bots which as i was a newcomer i got over quickly but DOTM is like a reverse role with more bots then humans in my opinion.
Now what it does better then ROTF is that the bots have more personality and attitude rather then just killing each other newcomers such as que/wheeljack and the wreckers all have a pretty good profile on their shoulders
But however i did find some small things that irked me a bit. First was the decepticons were back to having little to no screen time save for the rogue ( i say rogue) autobot sentinel prime. Next the final battle while probably the best was a little too long even longer then ROTF. But still to me Dark of the Moon is the best and most entertaining film in the trilogy and I'm truly sad to see Michael Bay and Shia Labeouf leave the franchise
X: First Class (2011)
The X-Men go to the X-TREME
Some movies tend to leave important parts out and that causes the fans to wonder if a sequel if any will tie up all loose ends.Well this prequel to the world renowned xmen franchise ties up pretty much everything there was to know although some things still go unexplained but I'm sure that First Class isn't the last X-Men film to be made. There are tons of stories to be told and this was just the beginning. Charles and Erik's relationship was "strained" from the beginning to say the least but at least we got to see why Erik(Magneto) was so stern when it came to humans and mutants and Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw was phenomenal. As far as I'm concerned xmen will be a marvel movie that will take years and years to forget if anyone wants to actually forget but this prequel to the hit franchise will make even non-marvel fans want to watch
Boogeyman 2 (2007)
Predictable but still fun
the 1st movie was "interesting" to say the least but this sequel i just don't know what to say about except maybe the title and thats predictable.
so basically 2 siblings went to a asylum to get help from their fear of the boogeyman OK understandable, but you'd think that the so-called boogeyman himself would be an actual entity rather than laura's own brother who actually went deranged after his visit from the hospital but no they decided to stick with a slasher esque type of movie not supernatural.
but the one thing i can't quite understand was that if the boogeyman was laura's brother (henry) all along then who (or what) killed their parents when they were 8 and 11 was it just coincidence or was there something in this movie that we overlooked all along?
Scream 4 (2011)
Scream 4 made me JUMP!!!!!!
It's a rare occurrence in the horror genre where a sequel can be better or just as good as the original. Scream 4 is 1 of the few exceptions i think that exists. This sequel is just as good as the original but double the scares and double the ghost face killings. Its also good to see Neve,David and Courtney back together again after so many years apart and also Wes craven as the horror director. Plus seeing new faces like Emma Roberts or Hayden Panetierre was a nice touch to the franchise.
However i noticed somethings in the movie that MAY have been a little too similar or just very different. Emma Roberts (Jill) well i found her motive the exact same as Roman's from scream 3 just out of pure jealousy for Sidney. And something was "new" about Ghostface like before he had to work at his killings by chasing or stabbing the victim a few times before they died except in this movie he stabs the victim once and they just fall which i thought was anti-climatic
but still Scream 4 met my expectations very well and i hope that it makes enough money so there will be a Scream 5
Red Riding Hood (2011)
Good Fairy Tale gone Bad
i grew up with this story (but then what kid hasn't) so therefore i was happy when i learned that it was being made into a feature film that included amanda seyfried. But i will admit i was apprehensive about the woman who made twilight being the producer of it but that didn't bother me. Boy was i wrong not only is this movie one of the worst ways to tell the story it is completely not what someone would expect unless you watched twilight which i have never seen. The idea of making this film a who done it kind of film was an idiot its not at all what the tale is about nor is it about a girl getting married and falling in love with another boy. Probably whats missing the most from this movie is that the wolf wasn't at all that fearsome to begin with because the attacks are to quick to even see. So my suggestion ms Hardwicke stick to teen vampires and wolves not a classic fairy tale we kids grew on
The Spectacular Spider-Man (2008)
Another fine edition to the webslingers fame
what is there to say about this show spiderman fighting almost every known villain in his rogue gallery, peter getting to date gwen stacy, mary jane watson, liz allen and not to mention that this show completely beats out the original animated series by 2000 miles its sad to hear though it was canceled by Disney but no way will this show ever die out of our hearts and our minds. I love how villains such as electro, sandman and tinkerer were present due to them never appearing in any other forms of the TV show and how spiderman is back to being his witty small and downright funny self long live the show that is called SPECTACULAR spiderman
Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy (2006)
Not much has changed but still an enjoyable game
the first game rocked but the second was pure non stop action packed fun. lego star wars 2 is by far one of the best games any body could receive i had mine preorder before it came out and i must say it was 50 bucks well spent. although i cant say that i enjoy a few things about it.For starters even though they added combat to the characters i really find it annoying due to the fact that some of the characters are about non stop at attacking foes. the double jump is useful for some but han solo,Luke and lando are just head diving down n not jumping at all. the running time of this game is wayyy longer but i still love n always will continue to play this wonderful and awesome game
Lego Star Wars: The Video Game (2005)
very addictive but also challenging
the 1st time i played this game i wasn't sure whether or not to laugh because its made entirely out of legos or to scream because its star wars an i am a hugeeeeeee star wars fan. But im not sure how or why but i bought this game about a few months after i played it an ever since then i couldn't stop playing it. every character at least in the prequel trilogy is about playable save for maybe 1 character but none the less this game completely took me by surprise. Far warning though every level is a challenge and some of the objectives are a little pointless (i.e. mini kits or stud total) but to any who is a star wars fan i highly recommend
Tron: Legacy (2010)
Graphics are praised but thats about it
You know it seems like every time somebody makes a movie about a person being sucked into a computer world or game is the same. I am here to second that. While i have not seen the original TRON movie i actually had little desire to see this sequel but i did enjoy watching the trailer for it. The graphics i should say will please anyone especially in 3-d. The sound and music were to spectacular. Even Olivia Wilde is hot in her outfit. My only complaint leveled against this movie is that not one of the main characters in it display any emotion. Its like basically watching human robots just battle it out in a computer world on a light cycle. I would rather say that this movie is more for people who are into graphics or computers not action or adventure. Watching this movie in theaters was OK but like i said no emotion and very little plot details.
