Pachinko (2022)
Typical Santa Barbara style soap drama
I really love good Korean films and TV series, but please emphasize the word "good". Since in parallel with good works, Korean cinema produces classic "Dramas", in the style of the well-known soap opera called Santa Barbara. Unfortunately, this series falls into this category, despite all my expectations. There is a tearful love story, very primitive stereotyped, moralizing sayings of the characters, scenes written on tracing paper, which I have already seen 10 thousand times in other similar soap operas. I won't even talk about the primitiveness of the whole scenario. Despite all this, the film is quite watchable, good budget, etc. If you need to kill a few hours, you can watch it, but if there is something better, don't waste your time.
The Gentlemen (2024)
An unfunny absurdist comedy instead of a crime drama
An unfunny absurdist comedy instead of a crime drama
I started watching this series because it was positioned as a crime drama. In the first episode, it was still difficult to classify it as a crime drama, but overall it was quite watchable. But soon, comedic and absurd elements appeared. Over time, they became more and more numerous. I can't say that I don't really like the satirical genre at all, but it's clearly not something that I can watch 10 episodes of. Moreover, to be honest, the humor was pretty stupid in most of the jokes. By the end of episode 2, this comedy began to tire with the abundance of all this.
Little Bird (2023)
One-sided coverage of history
I really didn't like this series because of the one-sided coverage of history, the use of well-known cliches, as well as because of the translation into the emotional plane and the play on feelings. From the very beginning, the scriptwriters use the well-known tracing paper, where the ideal family of indigenous peoples is shown for quite a long time and carefully, we see ideal people, everyone smiles 24/7, wonderful relationships and a reigning idyll. All neat, satisfied, well-fed and joyful. And then, according to the laws of the genre, inhumane, cruel and immoral villains (social services and police) appear, take away children and beat up parents for no reason. Everything follows the templates of the genre. All this is not to show the real story, the real life of these people, and the real reasons of the time for which this was practiced, but simply to evoke emotions in the viewer - anger, indignation, etc., etc. The entire film is built on such manipulations, which I personally do not accept. Give me a real story, and I'll decide how and what I should feel.
Rent-a-Pal (2020)
A stunning psychological thriller
This film is a real find for the movie gourmet. It takes you back to cinematic masterpieces like The Shining and the Ring. The filmmakers skillfully show the process of how a person, coming into very strict psychological conditions, gradually goes crazy, and what a terrible outcome this leads to. This film is about the problem of loneliness, depression and obsession as a result. Despite the fact that this film is quite oppressive and psychologically difficult, it does not leave an unpleasant aftertaste, because... In everything that happens, especially on the second floor of the film, there seems to be a certain grotesqueness of everything that happens. Separately, it is worth noting the excellent acting and simply outstanding stylization of the 70s.
Overall, this film is definitely not for fans of Hollywood cinema, which seems like a low rating. But for connoisseurs of modern cinema, cinema as art, this is just a real diamond.
Liebes Kind (2023)
One of the most absurd stories I have seen in my entire life.
Believe me, I have watched a lot of idiotic films, but this plot can probably compete in its insanity for one of the first places. This is the case when I, with a calm soul, give it a rating of 1. And even the fact that the first few episodes were very, very good and well-filmed will not correct the total nonsense that began to occur in the middle and reached its climax in the last episode. Oh God, what were the authors of this madness smoking? How could you come up with such nonsense? A group of maniacs who changed shifts and came on duty, a little girl, the main maniac!!! Dudes, do you even go out into the real world? Do you watch documentaries? Do you have any idea how this all happens in reality? I don't know, probably someone is interested in such crazy tales.
The Sixth Commandment (2023)
A real diamond for lovers of quality European cinema
This series, based on real events, made me incredibly happy. The acting is simply wonderful, the script, direction, everything is at a very high level. The film worked very , very well, so to speak. How nice it is to see films like this, where you again feel the taste of good old European cinema, and especially English cinema, my favorite .
The story itself is also very interesting, although very sad . Watching this film, you constantly ask yourself a rhetorical question, well, how could this happen, how could these people not see the true motives ... but there is an explanation for everything.
Dr. Death (2021)
Not a bad series about a rotten system
I personally definitely recommend watching this series, although I definitely can't call it a masterpiece, from a cinematic and other point of view. I advise you to watch it, because... it does a good job illuminating the rotten nomenclature in the healthcare system, and well illustrates how such a creepy, immoral butcher was able to penetrate the holy of holies - the hospital. Moreover, as a leading surgeon. The disgusting human qualities that allowed this to happen are clearly demonstrated.
On the negative side, I can note a very strong influence of typical "Hollywood cliches", with all the ensuing consequences. Here you have a handsome actor in the role of a maniac doctor, although in life this man was more like a butcher, which is what he actually was. Well... and many other templates.
Speak No Evil (2022)
Definitely a masterpiece, but it's better not to watch it.
This film is very reminiscent of the works of the famous Danish director Lars Von Trier. To be brief, the slogan for it could be - depression and hopelessness. If you don't want to completely ruin your mood and then remember the particularly depressing moments of this film, it's better not to watch it. You're probably wondering why I gave it 10 points then? The answer is simple, this film is simply flawless and even brilliant in the way it scares you, in the way it shows the absolute helplessness and doom of the victim in front of his tormentor. It also contains quite deep thoughts about the meaning of life, about simple joys that people do not appreciate. Plus, great actors and direction.
Fargo (2014)
Just awful in all aspects
The fourth season was absolutely terrible, but the fifth proved that you can make it even worse. 1) Throughout the entire season, every /- 20 minutes they shamelessly and annoyingly advertise a Korean car brand to you. I've never seen anything like this before. 2) In each episode, the screenwriter tirelessly practices his wit about terrible and archaic patriots 3) The plot itself is a pathetic and worthless parody of the wonderful seasons 1-3. There seems to be an external resemblance, but... this is absolute nonsense. Pointless and unrelated scenes, some kind of irrelevant mysticism, etc., etc. The only advantages I can mention are well-made cards and large financial investments.
Nobody (2021)
Good start, weak middle, terrible ending
Good start, weak middle, horrific ending - that should have been the tagline for this movie. It all started well, high quality, and sustained in such a classic style for a naturalistic thriller. But closer to the middle, the "Russian mafia" appears, or rather a parody of the Russian mafia. It all reminded me of the action movies of the 90s where the Russian (and other) mafia were shown as villains from cartoons. Here they still cast Russian actors, but it still looks like monsters from comic books. Just to laugh. But at the end of the film, I was even more disappointed when the main character was shown as just a mega superman, next to whom even Rimbaud is a little crying boy, and not only he, but his 90-year-old father, also a hero, the two of them dealt with Russian gangsters like with children from kindergarten. I don't know who this is intended for, and for what age, but I'm already too old for such nonsense. It's been a long time since it's been 90 outside.
Fúsi (2015)
Good psychological drama
A Well done, psychological film about life, about loneliness, about people who are "not like everyone else." Despite the depth of the issues raised, this film is quite dynamic and easy to watch. I was also pleasantly surprised by the excellent acting. A good example of the fact that you don't have to be a super-mega star like Richard Gere to act well. This is the second Icelandic film, which made a very strong emotional impression on me, with its naturalness and closeness to real life, as well as its subtle humor. Recommended to all fans of social and psychological dramas, you definitely won't be disappointed.
Munich Games (2022)
The most absurd story of the decade
The most absurd story of the decade. Initially, until the last episode, the series makes a positive impression. Well done, good actors. Not a masterpiece, but good. But the last episode has completely blown me away! God, who came up with this nonsense? Did the German right themselves stage a terrorist attack to provoke anti-immigrant rallies? What nonsense! In Germany, as elsewhere in Europe, Islamists have carried out endless terrorist attacks over the past years without any help. I'm not talking about how ridiculous it was all shown and performed. One gets the feeling that the screenwriter was kidnapped in the last episode and replaced with a politically engaged patient in a psychiatric clinic.
Brassic (2019)
Horrable
What was it? Many viewers praise this series and write reviews "It was great. Best of the best! Brilliant. Funny." Don't believe, don't believe a single word. This is a series about declassed people. The series makes no sense. Comedy? Seriously? It was a terrible experience. I only watched 80% of the first episode before deleting it. This is absolutely dumb humor. Humor that stopped being fashionable 40 years ago. Humor for people without a brain. A psychotherapist who shows a photo of his dick after sex to his patient... Are you okay the writers? This is just one of the meaningless and insane episodes. Don't watch this show if you don't want to waste your time and brain.
The Power of the Dog (2021)
Quality drama for true connoisseurs
To be honest, I don't understand why a drama that is so well done has such low ratings. After reading the reviews, I realized that the main problem for many viewers is that the film is boring. I'm sorry, but this is complete nonsense. If you don't like and don't understand Bach's music, why go and listen to it and then say that it's boring. It's not boring, you're just not mature enough to understand it. Watch action movies, comedies and other junk. Why spoil the rating.
About the film, I can say that it is good in every way. It's great acting, great staging, and content that brings you back to the classics of literature. All this in the wrapper of a "cowboy movie", but in fact it is a life drama. A film where there is room to think.
Elvis (2022)
fairy tale for children
Just awful, if you're expecting a biopic revealing the character of Elvis Presley then don't even waste your time. The film consists of jagged events mixed with excerpts from life, all this is more like a long video clip. The style of this "masterpiece" is a fairy tale for preschool children.it is not clear why modern music is used, all the characters speak snobbishly, it doesn't even come close to resembling real life.
The Truman Show (1998)
Definitely an interesting movie
Definitely an interesting movie. I don't like comedies because of the falsity, but here the humor looked very harmonious. Plus a very unusual and intriguing plot. For lovers of dystopia and - that's it.
El mal ajeno (2010)
Contender for the worst movie I've ever seen in my life!
I rarely give 1 star but this is the case. Here all the most disgusting things came together.
1) Terrible, mediocre actors
2) 100 percent Fake emotions. There is no desire to sympathize. Rather the opposite
3) Completely degenerate plot
4) General feeling of cheapness. It's like the movie's budget was $1,000, of which $900 was stolen.
I don't understand why they make such a low quality movie...
Weinberg (2015)
Boring and drawn out - the slogan of this film
What can I say about this TV series ... very boring, extremely (!) dragged out for no reason. The authors are constantly trying to scare the viewer, gloomy environment, dim light, etc... but that's ALL of what this "masterpiece" consists of. Another fake, where they try to compensate for the emptiness and meaninglessness of the plot with "atmosphere"
Parfum (2018)
Absurd plot, the exact opposite of the film and novel
I was very impressed with the novel Perfumer and the wonderful movie based on it. This series is a real disaster. The only thing that the creators did well was the depraved sex scenes. They probably should have made a porn, not a television series. In addition to the idiotic plot, which perverted the original idea, this is an extremely boring and gloomy action. You have to be an extremely hardy person to struggle with sleep while watching this nonsense.
Candy (2022)
Best TV series I saw during last couple of years!
Outstanding psychologic drama about human / couple relationship. This movie is about rage, envy, hate act.
This drama definitely breathtaking for mature person, but I am not sure that "Action Movie lovers" well understand all the depth of this movie )
Yellowstone (2018)
Totally overrated TV series.
*Very very slow. Good for falling asleep. The performance of a song can last 10 minutes, a walk in the field another 20 minutes
*Completely pointless dialogue. Discussing yesterday's dinner at dinner
*Bad actors, bad acting, and script written for children
*All heroes are exalted individuals, constantly falling into madness. The behavior of the characters is more like the behavior of patients in a psychiatric clinic.
*Constant and artificial sharpening of attention and discussion of racial issues and propaganda of political ideas.
*Fake plot, where the criminal situation in the state of Montana looks much worse than Afghanistan :))) The heroes only think how to survive until the evening :)))
I Am the Night (2019)
Dynamic, mysterious thriller based on real events
Pretty underrated. First 4 series well done ,dynamic, atmosphere of mystery as well. I really enjoyed watching. Last 1.5 series pathetic trash about maniac.
Le premier cercle (2009)
An example of a terrible movie
In this case, I will not go into details, because they do not matter. Just after 10-15 minutes of watching this pointless action, you start asking the question - why am I wasting my time? What do all these faceless persons and their affairs means to me? Answer is, as a viewer, I just don't give a damn.
Alex Rider (2020)
A teenage series with a completely absurd plot
Cons: 1) absurd plot, 2) designed for teenagers or children, not adults. (producers need to indicate such things, 3) a clear and very naive division into villains and heroes. 4) general primitivism
Pros: 1) is easy to watch 2) tolerable actors 3) relatively well done action 3) don't feel cheap.
Ratched (2020)
stereotyped
1) No any connection with - One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
2) An overdose of frankly sadistic scenes to make up for the stupidity and meaninglessness of the plot.
3) Endless and annoying pushing of a lesbian topic, not related to the plot.
