IF (2024)
30 year old male perspective
I must admit, the first half hour had me questioning if I was wasting my time. I was confused about the vast demographics the film was trying to appeal to. Maybe there could've been some improvements there.
Once the 2nd act started, I slowly started to find myself more and more invested in the characters. However, I was still questioning potential plot holes in the story and the films demographic.
During the 3rd act, it really tied itself together and started to make a lot more sense. I want to rewatch it knowing how well it ends, similar to a Christopher Nolan film. I'm curious what a child would think of this film because it deals with some adult themes and subject matter that only an adult would relate to. It isn't crude, it's very family friendly. A child might find it slow and boring at times. The moral of the film might go over a child's head but there's plenty of humour and subject matter aimed at children.
Overall, I was very impressed with this film, and I'll be watching it again. Take your kids to it. If they don't enjoy it now, it'll definitely have a completely different meaning to them in 10, 20, or 30 years. As an adult, you'll almost definitely enjoy it.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024)
*yawn* BOOOORRRIIINNGGG
The only good things I can say about this film is the CGI and the 5 min climax. It was beyond boring.
The main plot consists of a rescue mission and a divide between characters. Aren't they the plots of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes & War of the Planet of the Apes put together? And somehow most of the film consists of the most uninteresting world exploration and character development. It was almost like they intentionally set the excitement bar low so the next film(s) can easily appear more exciting. If you're expecting an action packed adventure, maybe save your money instead. I wasn't necessarily expecting an action packed adventure, but I expected a bit more than one 5 min action scene. I would also expect to care about the story.
War for the Planet of the Apes is on my 10/10 list, and for it to be followed up by THIS is insulting. When I saw Wes Ball was directing and Andy Serkis wasn't returning I knew it would be a disaster, when I saw the reviews I thought it might actually be good. (I know Serkis's Caesar isn't in the film but he plays an ape for Christ sake).
This was clearly just a cash grab for 20th Century Fox which is receiving relatively positive feedback. Very frustrating to see.
Sucker Punch (2011)
A spoiler-free review of 'Sucker Punch'
A lot of people didn't enjoy this movie because of the plot line, and i do agree because the plot did jump all over the place. But if it wasn't for that you wouldn't have the the most visually amazing and intense action sequences you have ever seen. The plot changes are actually advantages to the movie because it adds to the girl's sanity.
After seeing 'Shutter Island' and others i thought this movie would have a similar twist at the end, and unfortunately I was wrong. There was no twist at the end (Don't worry that isn't a spoiler because this movie isn't supposed to have a twist). But this movie defiantly delivers in several different ways - amazing visual effects, insane action sequences, hot girls, and good story line (even though there are two going on at once). This movie is also DEFIANTLY a GUY movie! Not to say that girls wont enjoy it, if you are a girl and you like action movies you will enjoy this also. 'Sucker Punch' keeps you on the edge of your seat and wanting to know what will happen next!
Drive Angry (2011)
A spoiler-free review of 'Drive Angry'
First off i need to say that, this movie probably isn't as good as you think i'd be.
A lot if people don't like Nicolas Cage recently and this movie was a life saver for him because it was actually pretty good, and so was Nicolas Cage.
The movie had most of what you'd expect - a lot of action, blood, and violence. But there was something about this movie that it felt like it was missing, and i cant quite figure it out. It is a big cat and mouse chase between Nicolas Cage, William Fichtner, Billy Burke, and the police. But it was similar to 'My Bloody Valentine' in the way that it isn't as exciting as it looks, but still delivers. I do think this movie was a step up from the directors previous film 'My Bloody Valentine'.
This movie isn't something to get super excited about but defiantly worth seeing when its on DVD, if it appeals to you. If your not interested in this movie in the first place than your almost guaranteed to not like it.
Just Go with It (2011)
Just another typical Adam Sandler movie!

There's honestly not much i can say about this film except that its exactly what you'd expect it to be, in a good way - if your a fan of Adam Sandler!
Its got all the crude outrageous laughs and entertainment, just like his other films, if you like Adam Sandlers other films then defiantly check this one out!

12 Rounds (2009)
Very entertaining and fast paced but a couple major things wrong with it
*NO SPOILERS*
This movie was defiantly all action and entertainment with also a surprising amount of story but the problems i had with the movie were:
The movie was too 'played out' - the events the 'bad guy' had played out in this film were way too accurate, unrealistic and very unlikely to happen exactly how he planned.
Storyline - The storyline was actually pretty decent but at times it got too 'particular' and sometimes a bit confusing to piece together, but its okay because these things didn't really matter in the first place - hence it was way too particular.
Acting - Honestly the acting at times in my opinion was below the 'tolerable line' in fact the storyline and the fast paced action was mostly what kept me watching the movie, if this quality of acting was in any other movie i would of turned it OFF! Although it wasn't the worst acting I've ever seen.
Cast - The cast was honestly horrible! - hence the bad acting, but i can see the only reason they picked the actor to play the main character was because he was 'buff' and 'huge' and a very intimidating person. but i don't think there was one actor in this movie i had heard of before, but everyone in the movie had a part of horrible acting. Although i do have to give credit to the actor who played the 'bad kidnapper guy' because he actually did a pretty good job.
If this movie had a better cast and a little adjustments to the storyline this would be one of the best movies I've seen!
The Killing Room (2009)
Not bad. But not great.
When i first started watching this i really got into it but started to lose interest because of a few things - muttering (sometimes you could barely tell what they were saying), Lack of knowing what was REALLY going on that was worth the government to do this to people, Lack of 'twist'.
This movie started off to seem like it was going to be smart with maybe a few twists, but it turned from that to 'who cares lets just get out of this room'.
The ending was actually pretty good, the only problem i had is that i know there's not going to be a sequel and it set it up for one. I know their not making a sequel because it was such a low budget film and people have barely heard of it, let alone enjoyed it enough to sit through another one of these films.
Regardless of how much i liked this film (unless it was just HORRIBLE) i would still like to see a sequel because it left it off in such a way that i think a sequel would be good for this movie for several reasons, because they could do so much more with this story and have a chance to make the next one better and attract more audience members. And partly because i don't like being left in the dark about knowing whats ganna happen next.
One thing i did notice with this film is that it was trying too hard to be like 'Saw', which is alright i don't have a problem with that because they made it into their own thing, but i think a lot of credit of this movie should go to 'Saw'. Although i enjoyed 'Saw' A lot more.
