Lincoln (2012)
absolutely beautiful
I'm not sure why people even marked their reviews as having spoilers even though this is history and you can't really spoil history but that's okay I guess. Lincoln jumps straight to the passing of the 13th amendment instead of telling his entire life story or something like that, which I really like because this film is focusing only on the passing of the amendment. Maybe it should have been called something like "13th" or something related to the amendment but it's fine with me. The movie is mostly historically accurate with only minor inaccuracies for dramatic effect. For some reason, at the end when they were doing the vote, It was somehow intense and I was just uncertain if they're going to win but i know for a fact that they will, but you just somehow feel uncertain and it was intense.
There was one scene of a character giving a speech and it was epic and there was music but when it ended and he was walking out while people were shouting and cheering for him, before the music could fade away, before the noise faded away, before the exciting part could conclude it just abruptly cut away to the next scene instead of letting everything fade away first. It doesn't really bother me that much but it just felt a bit weird.
The climax was presented in a quite unusual way but It's not a bad thing, and i guess it was that way because the filmmakers knew that the audience knows of the outcome, it's only speculation, probably not true.
There are also at least 5 uses of the N-word in this movie, all said by white people and all hard r to make it more historically accurate.
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024)
Mindless, dumb, fun and an overrall entertaining monster movie
Don't go into this movie expecting some Christopher Nolan level, compelling storytelling. This is a movie where you can go to turn off your brain and enjoy mindless monster action and fan service, and let me tell you, there's a LOT of fan service and I love it.
GxK does have its narrative problems such as Jia's character arc, and... the plot.
You know that one CGI shot of godzilla in the trailer after he awakens from the ice that everyone and their mother is talking about how bad the CGI is? Yeah, that stays the same, it's not some unfinished CGI, it's literally the final result, the official thing. But that's OK since it only lasts for a few seconds and in the next shot the CGI looks fantastic as usual.
I wanted this to be more of a Godzilla movie, but I already know that it's going to be centred around kong before going into this movie because the trailer makes it obvious. Adam Wingard is a fan of Godzilla but GxK did not have a lot of godzilla. Well, there is, but kong gets way more screen time and he's the main character. This is definitely more of a Kong movie, not a Godzilla movie, but I'm okay with it and I hope the next one focuses and centres more around godzilla, or another kaiju that is not kong like Rodan, and oh let me tell you i would be celebrating if a Rodan centred storyline is announced.
The human characters are likeable, and by human characters I mean only Trapper and Bernie. Jia in the beginning acts like the stereotypical, cliche lonely high school teenager who doesn't want to talk about her problems, avoids it as much as possible, and is the outcast who has, like, no friends, but that gets quickly overshadowed by the monsters (who have more screen time that ever), Trapper and Bernie. I'm glad they gave the monsters more screen time, it's more fun and entertaining. One of the humans will have a character arc and I'll just say that it could've been better.
Enjoy this movie for what it is, what it's supposed to be, a dumb, fun monster movie with a ton of action, fan service, and lore.
I'm wasn't sure what rating to give this movie but I settled on 6 so people can know that this is not Everything Everywhere All at Once, this is not The Dark Knight, this doesn't have any compelling storytelling. This is an entertaining monster movie that does what would make Michael Bay still successful if he just did this instead. Even though 6/10 is a bad rating I would highly recommend this movie for people who just want to see big monsters fight, and especially for godzilla fans, and I don't mean the people who think they know everything about godzilla and what every adaptation should be like just because they watched Minus One and liked it. No offense to Minus One fans because basically everyone who's seen the movie loves it. But I've seen critics compare this to Minus One which just doesn't sit right with me.
Rogue One (2016)
K-2SO Steals Every Scene He Was in
Thank god there's none of George Lucas's dialogue, so whenever someone dies no one will shout "NOOOOOO!!". Rogue One is a "darker" take on star wars and they really wasted no time to raise the stakes and present the empire as dangerous ruthless enemy.
K-2SO is probably the best droid in all of star wars and I am so glad we're getting to see more of him in Andor season 2.
The death troopers have scrambled voices or something like that. I cannot understand them at all but apparently it's because they could communicate without the enemy knowing.
Some action scenes in Rogue One are so shaky that i can't really comprehend what is going on. But that's okay because it doesn't apply to all action sequences like when Chirrut takes on the stormtroopers. Most of the action sequences are fine, only some have shaky cameras.
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)
An actual good prequel
I enjoyed this, but it's not perfect. The dialogue is generally okay, but it could get quite weird at times. I didn't care that much for Obi-Wan and Anakin's brother-like friendship. Anakin did save Obi-Wan and they did have some banter so I at least cared a little bit. I think I care more about Anakin and Padme's relationship since Phantom Menace and Attack of The Clones happened. But we didn't get to see much of Anakin and Obi-Wan in Attack of The Clones. But I don't know, It might be because I watched episode 1 and 2 and then stopped for a long time, then watched episode 3
What's good about episode 3 is that it shows us events and things that happened that slowly turned him into Darth Vader, like the council refusing to let him do or get trusting him and the times that he went to see Palpatine. Revenge of The Sith also has great special effects, cinematography, fight scenes and score.
In the scene where Mace Windu and some other jedi try to kill Palpatine, Instead of just stabbing and killing Palpatine when he had the chance, Mace Windu keeps talking and when he finally goes in for the kill, he does it slowly and goes into a position that allows Anakin to intervene.
Overall the film is good.
Oppenheimer (2023)
This has to win best picture at the Oscars. (I don't know if this counts as a spoiler)
This movie is just amazing. The movie is very long, 3 hours, but it's worth it. Every second is not wasted and it never gets boring. I never thought a biopic would be this good and entertaining.
This movie had good acting, good set, good pacing, good cinematography good sound design, good special effects. Apparently the entire movie was made without CGI at all. The score is excellent.
The only problem I might have with this movie is that they included the iconic quote ''Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds'' in a sex scene, but that's just a nitpick and I'm completely fine with that.
