Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story (2004)
This is a funny film - so forget pretentious comments
This film is not intended to be a great work of art and no one will win an Oscar for it because it is just a film packed full of laughs that leaves you smiling afterwards - that is, with the exception of the few posters here bereft of any sense of humour.
I am not a great Ben Stiller fan - generally, I find him rather unfunny but he scores highly in this film and Vince Vaughn also deserves recognition among others for fine comedic timing.
The guest appearances also add to the general fun and the wheelchair-bound coach, played by Rip Torn is just a hoot.
This is definitely one to hire from your local rental shop - me, I'm going to buy the DVD!

Avoid!
Sometimes, when you have children, you are obliged to see films that you would normally prefer to give a miss but sometimes you are pleasantly surprised. This one, however, was a nightmare.
The animals were largely unpleasant in their characterisations and the story was very unappealing and I have to confess that I became so bored so quickly that I made considerable efforts to fall asleep but I was in such agony that this proved impossible.
When DVDs are released at full price, they sometimes drop in price quickly because good films that impose intellectual challenges are not necessarily popular with DVD buyers. This one probably holds the record for rapid price reduction - but only because it is a complete stinker.
If you are thinking about buying it for your child or children, you should do so on the condition that you never have to watch it with them.

Great entertainment - a must have
There are 21 comments as I add mine to this list and there is barely a criticism. This is because this film is terrific entertainment and has a bit of everything in it.
It is perhaps a little frightening for younger children but my 15-year old son thought it was fantastic in every way from the action, to the humour and even to the beautiful music score.
I buy DVDs only when I know that they are going to be regularly watched and now that this is finally available in the UK, I will certainly be adding it to my collection.
