Halloween Ends (2022)
What the hell?
I thought Halloween Kills was the worse movie in this franchise, but Halloween Ends it is certainly an overcoming. A senseless story that tries to inovate a classic and fails miserably. I mean, Michael Myers just got himself an intern. How bizarre is that?
Unbelievable characters is just the begging of the problem. The script is nothing but ridiculous - and we are talking about a Slasher. Michael Myers is a bad joke in this one, and all of Laurie's development in the last few films was simply discarded.
So yes, If Halloween Kills didn't kill the franchise, this one definitely did. I don't recommend.
Moon Knight (2022)
Much better than I expected
Completely out of "marvel formula", Moon Knight is a fresh air and a good surprise. To be honest, if I didn't know, I wouldn't say it's a Marvel series. For those who loves Marvel and those who never watched, Moon Knight is a catch up to different public. Great performances, great photography and a really great story. I expect to see more of it soon.
Hawkeye (2021)
Great characters, boring story
I really liked all the characters, including the secondary ones. The cast is also convincing in their performances. Although, the story fails to follow that quality and, for me, it was pretty boring. Weak action sequences, with great fan service, but that was all. Nothing new and nothing exciting,
The Sandman (2022)
Incredible
And I didn't expect less of Neil Gaiman,True to the comic book, Sandman is a series that holds attention and takes a breather amidst the sameness that has been produced lately. To be honest, the races swap and the presence of queer characters didn't affect the quality of the story at all, Really, I don't understand this hysteria in the ratings.
Malignant (2021)
Fresh air
This really got me. This is very different from the horror movies that have been produced lately, so it has some advantage on my rating. I liked the characters and special effects, also.
Despete the ideia being original, it remembered me of 80's horror movies, specially because of the direction.
Candyman (2021)
Just no
First of all, I love Jordan Peele's horror movies. Although, despite his previous experience, this one was just amateur and, in many moments, silly. The characters doesn't help either, there's nothing that makes the viewer care about them.
Candyman deserved much better.
The Batman (2022)
Detective Comics!
For those who likes the detective side of Batman, I highly recommend this movie. Intense, engaging, dark. We can see Bruce Wayne becoming the Batman we know and love, and how he manage his first year as a vigilant. For the first time, Gotham seems to be a real city, not just an unrealistic place. The side characters were specially good: Detective Gordon, Penguin, Catwoman and, of course, The Riddler. A villan worthy the greatness of the story. Not just the performance, but the violance e the built of a villain that is a product of Gotham's violance as much as Batman does, and is essential for his development. For me, the best Batman solo movie so far.
Death on the Nile (2022)
I honestly enjoyed
With an engaging story - and keeping the film's title in mind - the movie got my attention the entire time. I confess I didn't read the book, so can't make any comparison about that.
Although the performances were a little too unrealistic, I'd recommend that if you, like me , enjoy Agatha Christie's adaptations.
I Know What You Did Last Summer (2021)
Dumb
Senseless, predictable and dumb.
A bad written story, with characters that doesn't help at all. Somethimes, it's just so stupid that the tension becomes comedy.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Good introduce to multiverse
Good introduce to multiverse, even though I expected more. The script is kind of shallow, but worth to introduce a little more of multiverse and new characters. I believe marvel has something big to do with multiverse and this is just the begging.
Positive points includes, of course, a well done fan service and the consequences of Wanda getting Darkhold in WandaVision.
Bad points is Convenience of the script, which not only makes the story lose some of its luster. Also, the story felt very rushed.
Fantasy Island (2020)
Very entertaining
It's a good ideia, but poorly executed. A good story with a lot of plot-holes and bizarre things that happened without any explanation or even mentioned. It doesn't make sense, but if you don't think too much you can have a good time.
Spiral: From the Book of Saw (2021)
Nah
This is Saw - but specially bad. The story doesn't make any justice to Saw. Bad written, the film delivers a predictable and bland script. The special effects and the terrible casting doesn't help either. Just the result of a sum of bad choices.
Chaos Walking (2021)
Good
It's not a masterpiece, but not bad either. B The characters are a little shallow. The story is interesting, but it seems to lose its vigor halfway through. Even with those problems, I enjoyed .
The Green Knight (2021)
What I just watched?
In one word: Terrible.
A boring story, played by a boring actor. Interesting at begging, it gets worse by every second. A totally empty story, didn't get my attention at all.
Moonfall (2022)
If you've nothing better to watch
It's enjoyable, if you've nothing better to watch.
While the special effects are really good, the main story falls short. Too much unnecessary charactes, and useless plotlines.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022)
Good, but could be better.
The movie is really good, but it seemed to me that the story could be much better used. Good characters with few screen moments and the tension built and relieved too quickly were reasons that made me not like it as much as I thought I would.
Ambulance (2022)
Enjoyable Thriller
A well-constructed thriller with likeable characters. I really don't understand so many negative reviews, but I have to admit that the camera sucks. The acting is ok, nothing worthy of applause but not bad.
The Protégé (2021)
Cliché
It's a entertaining movie with great performances, but there's nothing new about it. The same old plot of an assassin who rescue and train a child, who grows up and go after revenge.
Eternals (2021)
Love it or Hate it
Bringing the celestial side of Marvel's comics, Eternals is different from everything we've seen in MCU. Every character of the group is well developed and explored, we can connect with which one. Visually, this is one of the most beautiful movie I've ever seem. There's a feeling of magnitude, caused by the scales used.
Although, even if it's different, they felt like they need to use some of the "classic way" and some jokes were totally out of place. This was kind of a mood breaking.
The Man in the High Castle (2015)
The last season is bad, but this is really good.
First of all, this is an ambitious project. Not just the story development but the enormous research that this required. In the technical aspect, it's just incredible: The costumes, the scenarios (specially the scenarios!) and the cars. The Reich scenarios, specially at Berlin was breathtaking. Alexa Davalos and Rufus Sewell performances was a high point on this. The story, a science fiction, is unpredictable and intense. To me, one of the best tv series of the year. Why not a ten? I honestly didn't like the end. The last season was disappointing, especially after everything the resistance had passed throw for taken down the Nazis and Japanese.
Old (2021)
Interesting and creative
Despite some mistakes along the story, it's an interesting movie. Not something I've seen before. Some dialogs are a little forced and not believable and so aren't the characters. During this, their calm and inaction in this situation is unlikely, unable to sit and talk about it. C'mon, there're dead people in the beach and no one gives a second thought about it and seems to forget pretty quick about some characters. Although, I enjoyed the idea and creativity on this and unfolding of events.
Searching (2018)
Unpredictable
The movie takes place in a laptop screen. A little annoying at the beginning, but gets engaging and intense pretty quickly. Unpredictable, Searching contrast over the thriller and suspense movies. John Cho gives a great and believable performance as David Kim, and so does Debra Messing as Detective Vick. For me, one of the best movies of the year.
The Manor (2021)
It's not that bad, just cliché
Predictable and cliché, this is an entertaining movie that bring nothing new. The performances really awkward at the end (If you've watched, you know exactly what I'm talking about, it was so anticlimax). Between every other horror movie with this thematic, it doesn't contrast. It's not bad or terrible - reason why I gave six stars - but is more of the same.
The Guilty (2021)
Something new
During the whole movie, all we see is the detective in a room. The story moves on with emergency calls, bringing something unusual in the middle of a lot of thrillers movies. We've two stories to keep with: The detective personal life and the kidnaped woman. We can feel the main character's agony, listen to the calls and sending police officers to help, but unable to be there too. It gets weirder at every call, and opens doors for a lot of theories, a good thing for those who likes to guess what's going on. The plot-twist is great and so is the suspense's atmosphere.
Dune: Part One (2021)
The beginning of something incredible
Since I haven't read the books or watched other versions, my review is based at this movie only.
This movie is just an introduction for something bigger. An interesting story, engaging. The characters draw attention to the personality and strangeness of costumes and local customs of a fantastic world. For those who loves sci-fi, go for it. By blockbuster standards, it's a pretty slow movie, but that didn't hurt my experience at all. The photography and sets are amazing, doing the rest of the film justice.
