Image Source: Walt Disney Pictures It was 20 years ago that Nicolas Cage assembled his band of explorers to find National Treasure for the first time. The film, of course, was a big hit, spawning both a sequel and a TV series. Now, rumors are once again picking up that there could be a third National Treasure movie made, though we’re not about to count any proverbial chickens before they’ve hatched. In the meantime, the anniversary marks an ideal opportunity to revisit the original films. At the time of its release, Cage told us it was important to make National Treasure a movie that kids could enjoy. Disney Cruise Line’s latest ship, the Disney Treasure, left to cross the Atlantic Ocean from Eemshaven, Netherlands to Port Canaveral last week. Now Disney is sharing a look, and listen, to one of the seven new ship horn musical numbers the Treasure can “perform.” Although, we only know three of the seven songs so far.
What songs with the Disney Treasure horn play?
Among the new arrangements for the ship are the Haunted Mansion’s “Grim Grinning Ghosts” song. Which is in honor of the ships Haunted Mansion Parlor.
Pixar’s “Remember Me” from “Coco” for the new Plaza de Coco restaurant.
“A Whole New World” from “Aladdin” which is meant to tie back to the Disney Treasure’s Grand Hall.
Here is an example of “A Whole New World.”

Director Julia von Heinz’s Treasure, a loose adaptation of Lily Brett’s novel “Too Many Men,” is a Holocaust drama centered upon father-daughter duo Edek and Ruth, whose sense of identity is intrinsically entangled with the family’s agonizing past as Holocaust survivors. The movie delineates their journey to their homeland, Poland, as an effort to reconcile with the generational trauma and mainly focuses on how the pain of being displaced, identity crises, and fear of persecution create radically different worldviews across generations. Treasure opts for a humorous tone to balance the emotionally turbulent confrontations, and even though that works well to a certain extent, it is carried forward only through a singular strain of the narrative, which ruins the effect by the end of the movie. The father-daughter chemistry, although poignantly bittersweet and occasionally endearing, feels contrived at most crucial points of the movie—much like how the...

Lena Dunham and Stephen Fry play a daughter and her Holocaust-survivor father, on a trip to his native Poland in the 1990s, in the dramedy Treasure. The trip is the daughter’s idea, and her plan is to learn about her family history, something her father and late mother always refused to talk about. Angry and frustrated at her parents’ refusal to share anything about their past, she plans to visit sites related to dad’s family and life to learn about the family she knows nothing about. Her father has steadfastly refused to talk about it, and with the death of her mother, she figured going to their home country of Poland was the only way. The Royal Ascot is Britain’s annual horseracing festival and a significant event for the royal family. It has been a staple in the summer social calendar of the royals since 1711 when Queen Anne established the annual race meeting.
Members Of The Royal Family Are Allowed In The Royal Enclosure
It is a five-day event and England’s equivalent to the Kentucky Derby, except it is more formal, proper, and prestigious. The opening day of the Royal Ascot this year was June 18th.
Each day of racing starts with the Royal procession from Windsor Castle, where the King, Queen, and accompanying members of the royal family come to the track in horse-drawn carriages.
Members of the royal family are allowed in the Royal Enclosure, established in 1822, when the area was explicitly reserved for the family and guests of King George IV to see the first running of the gold cup.

Chicago – Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com audio film review for “Treasure,” a feature film pairing the odd couple acting of Lena Dunham and Stephen Fry, as a daughter and father trying to bond in the backdrop of his memories of Auschwitz. Currently in theaters since June 14th.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
The film is set in 1991, and Dunham is Ruth, the daughter of Edek (Fry), a Polish immigrant that has not been back to the Auschwitz death camp since he was confined there as a teenager. Ruth has meticulously planned the trip, which includes a side journey to the former family factory and house in the Polish town of Lodz. Edek acts strange and elusive throughout the midst of the trip, leading to a further tear in the fabric of their relationship. What they will learn is about to become very important.

It was an Inside Out specialty weekend, fairly quiet and with a stream of indies films and more wide releases. The schedule is starting to recover from a strike-induced slump that, however, provided oxygen to some indies.
Small films have been competing for screens with majors at arthouses from Alamo Drafthouse to Landmark since theaters reopened post-Covid and the more of them there are, the harder it is. It’s nice to see major back and the broader box office on a solid footing. But it would also be nice to see more indie breakouts like Civil War, Late Night With The Devil, Immaculate, Wicked Little Letters, One Life or Love Lies Bleeding.
“June is crowded” with indies now, says one distributor. And theaters “don’t have space to support indies in a meaningful way.”
Others are heartened by recent wide-release blowouts. “It’s still a tough market. But I...

At last. A weekend to sincerely cheer.
“Inside Out 2” (Disney) would have been terrific at a $100 million opening weekend, but it soared to an estimated $155 million. Meantime, “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” (Sony), would have been thought successful with a 50 percent drop in its second weekend. Instead, it is off 42 percent with $33 million after an opening weekend of $56.5 million.
In what was set up to be a do-or-die critical two-weekend period, “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” (Sony) and “Inside Out 2” (Disney) exceeded expectations — and more importantly, at the same time. It’s hard to overestimate how much dread there was ahead of these two releases. Had either or both fell short of reasonable expectations, as did to many recent high-end releases before them, the despair would have reached new lows.
Instead, not only did both franchise titles come through, they also exceeded best hopes. That happened last nearly a year ago,...

After many months of disappointing showings at the box office, June seems to have fully recovered with Pixar having its biggest hit since pre-pandemic. Read on for the weekend box office report.
Disney released Pixar’s sequel “Inside Out 2” into 4,400 theaters after it scored a terrific 92% on Rotten Tomatoes. The voices of Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith and Lewis Black, were joined by new emotions voiced by Maya Hawke, Ayo Edebiri and Adèle Exarchopoulos, but the success of the original Oscar-winning movie in 2015 drove millions to theaters to be the first to experience the sequel.
“Inside Out 2” managed to rack up $13 million in Thursday previews, which was added into Friday for a $62 million opening day. Disney is estimating that the animated sequel will gross $155 million domestically over the Father’s Day weekend. The actor on playing a Polish Holocaust survivor alongside Lena Dunham, what he likes about hip‑hop and why a boring Pm would be a relief
Stephen Fry, 66, is an actor, broadcaster, writer, presenter and director. As a teenager, he was expelled from school, went to prison for credit card fraud and failed his A-levels before retaking them, resulting in a scholarship to Cambridge University, where he joined the Footlights sketch troupe. He has since starred in more than 60 TV shows, at least 50 films and written 17 books. His latest film, Treasure, with Lena Dunham, is out now.
In Treasure, you play Edek, a Polish Holocaust survivor, reluctantly turning to his homeland with his journalist daughter (played by Dunham). It’s a long way from playing Jeeves and General Melchett in Blackadder.
It is! Casting directors, for all kinds of obvious reasons, think of me if they need a pompous lawyer or headmaster [laughs]. But just occasionally,...

British actor Stephen Fry remembers being about 10 years old in the late 1960s when he first saw a production of Oscar Wilde’s play “The Importance of Being Earnest” on television.
He immediately checked out the “Complete Works of Oscar Wilde” from the mobile library that visited his town in rural England.
“I went back and said, ‘Have you got anything else?’ And [the librarian] said, “Well, that’s the complete works,’” Fry tells me on the latest episode of the “Just for Variety” podcast. “I searched the shelves and I found this book, ‘The Trials of Oscar Wilde.’ I thought, that’s really weird. I thought trials as in trials and tribulations, maybe he had a very unhappy life. So I took the book out and she stamped it out for me looking a bit doubtful as to whether I should read it. I didn’t understand why.”

There’s been much speculation about distributors being wary about taking films critical of Donald Trump for fear he will sue – most recently Ali Abassi’s biopic The Apprentice, which premiered at Cannes to great reviews. The former president hates the movie and backer Dan Snyder has disavowed it. But if you love the guy, there’s new a place to go.

This week's episode of the Empire Podcast invites you to settle into a pair of cracking interviews. First up, Ben Travis has a sit-down with Richard Linklater [22:48 - 42:49 approx], director of the excellent Hit Man, which is out now and available to stream over on Netflix. Then, Chris Hewitt has a bonny time with the wonderfully loquacious Stephen Fry [1:06:39 - 1:26:31 approx], whose father-daughter road-trip dramedy Treasure, based on Lily Brett's 1999 autofictive tome Too Many Men, arrives in cinemas this week.
Between the interviews then, you'll find Chris — now mercifully free of his gammy leg — back in the pod booth, running rings around Helen O'Hara and James Dyer as the team discuss the best sunglasses in the movies. There's also a tonne of movie news to digest, including the new Paddington In Peru trailer and the potentially perilous state of being for the McU's Blade after another director of the ill-fated project bit the dust this week.

An ambling father-daughter road trip through ‘90s Poland, Julia von Heinz’s Treasure is an odd hybrid. On one side it’s a meandering portrait of a father (Stephen Fry’s Edek) and daughter (Lena Dunham’s Ruth) reconnecting after the death of her mother. To which end it’s the type of tragicomedy Sundance used to pump out at a relatively fast pace: both inoffensive and more than a little bland. On the other side Treasure is, somewhat explicitly, a portrait of the collective trauma of the Holocaust.
Ruth treks to Poland to revisit the scenes of her family’s experiences in the lead-up and during their imprisonment in Auschwitz-Birkenau. An unhappy journalist living in New York, she wants to know more about her family. Not wanting to have his daughter visit these sites alone, Edek comes along but is also––quite obviously for everyone that isn’t Ruth...

Stephen Fry on Treasure, Lena Dunham, the essential quality of humour in telling this personal story
Writer, actor, TV presenter and all around national treasure, Stephen Fry, stars in Julia von Heinz’s touching drama comedy about generational trauma and the holocaust. The film is based on the 1999 novel Too Many Men by Lily Brett.
Set in 1990, Treasure follows Ruth (Lena Dunham) an American music Journalist who accompanies her father Edek (Fry), a Holocaust survivor to his native Poland. While she attempts to make sense of her family’s past, her father would rather be looking to the future. This emotional, funny culture clash of two New Yorkers exploring post-socialist Poland is a powerful example of how reconnecting with family and the past can be an unexpected

Ten minutes speaking to two subjects with whom you could easily spend an hour each is somewhat like fighting with one arm behind your back. But having interviewed Lena Dunham at length and admired Stephen Fry in a multitude of fields for years, the opportunity was too fine to pass on. It helps that they’re promoting Treasure, a strong feature on which Dunham serves as producer and star but, crucially, not writer or director; those duties fall to Julia von Heinz, who’s adapted Lily Brett’s Too Many Men into an alternately amiable and bracing vision of Holocaust survivors, their children, and the various oddities and indignities that come with extended time in Poland.
In advance of the film’s opening this Friday, I spoke to both via Zoom, Fry and Dunham calling from separate locations.
The Film Stage: Good afternoon––for me. I don’t know where you’re all calling from.

Edek (Stephen Fry) is a Holocaust survivor from Łódź who emigrated to America with his late wife after surviving the unfathomable horrors of Auschwitz. He’s boisterous, horny, and impossible to embarrass — the kind of guy who will happily sing karaoke in a crowded hotel bar and then flirt with half of the women in the audience for an encore. His daughter Ruth (Lena Dunham) is a 36-year-old music journalist from New York City whose greatest hardship in life was landing an interview with the Rolling Stones. She’s morose, severe, and shut off from the world in a way that doesn’t seem to be a symptom of her recent divorce so much as its potential root cause.
As we follow these characters throughout their fraught but funny daddy-daughter trip back to Poland, it will become clear that Edek’s brio stems from the same thing as Ruth’s...

Welcome to Deadline’s International Disruptors, a feature where we shine a spotlight on key executives and companies outside of the U.S. shaking up the offshore marketplace. Gasmia, who set up production banner Seven Elephants in 2018 with directors Julia von Heinz, Erik Schmitt and David Wnendt, talks us through building that outfit, his “special relationship” with France and why he thinks German cinema is having a “renaissance.”
International relationships are proving more significant than ever in what is now a fragile and economically strained independent film market and Fabian Gasmia is proving to be a European partner with clout. The German producer, who recently produced Lena Dunham...

Stephen Fry, normally the embodiment of droll detachment, cuts a much earthier figure in Treasure, the new film from German writer-director Julia von Heinz. With a thick beard and scraggly gray hair, a credible Slavic accent, and a distinctly oafish slump in his large frame, Fry transforms himself into Edek Rothwax, a haunted Holocaust survivor and recent widower who, in accompanying his daughter Ruth (Lena Dunham) to his homeland of Poland in 1991, would rather flirt with translators and sing karaoke than revisit the locales of his past.
Heinz shoots Poland through a gauzy gray filter that’s almost as extreme as the hackneyed orange tint used to portray Mexico in so many thrillers that center around drug trafficking. The dreary look is certainly appropriate, though, to the depressing landscapes of ramshackle buildings, not to mention the immediately post-communist time period and lingering trauma of the Holocaust half a century earlier.

When dream hampton lived around the corner from the Notorious B.I.G in Brooklyn, when Gang Starr’s Guru would cut her hair, when she found herself in the epicenter of hip-hop’s modern genesis, she was a film student at New York University who just couldn’t afford to live in their Manhattan dorms. Yet, from there, the 19-year-old would become one of the foremothers of feminist critique in the genre as she split her time between leading an activist group that helped temper New York’s racist broken-windows policing,...

National Treasure 3 will make the franchise a trilogy and the success of the upcoming movie will determine if more installments can be added. Directed by Jon Turteltaub, the National Treasure franchise was a commercial success although the response from critics was not celebratory. Still, the franchise deserves one more installment. Also, Cage’s return would create the astonishing buzz as Hugh Jackman did following his return as Wolverine.

Following “The Zone of Interest,” Jesse Eisenberg’s “A Real Pain” and Berlinale offering “Treasure,” about a Holocaust survivor, the latter starring Stephen Fry and Lena Dunham, Poland might be welcoming more foreign shoots in the future.
“I would always be willing to return and shoot in Poland,” says “Treasure” director Julia von Heinz.
“Our co-producer Mariusz Włodarski from Lava Films realized that during the tenure of the Law and Justice [PiS] government, there was no chance of obtaining public funding for a story where Polish people are portrayed not just as victims and heroes, but as complex human beings. Now, our film is embraced there.”
General director of the Polish Film Institute, Radosław Śmigulski, was dismissed in April, after parliamentary elections ended the domination of the right-wing party. Kamila Dorbach will be temporarily taking over his duties.
