Steven Soderbergh finished the rough cut of the film three hours after principal photography wrapped.
Filming took three weeks.
Melvin Gregg previously starred as a high school basketball player in American Vandal (2017-2018) and would go on to star as another one in The Way Back (2020).
Because Steven Soderbergh made the movie directly to Netflix he had no intention to have it premiere in cinemas to qualify for awards and let this know to the streamer, but when he heard that the following movie he made with Netflix again, The Laundromat, was going to receive that treatment he then talk to Netflix about both movies being treated the same or it may seem the streamer didn't want to push a movie with a mostly black cast.
