I found this series brilliant! It has great characters, plenty of action and excitement, and gets you thinking.
In today's age of political correctness, it's sad to see so many people get all worked up about the subject matter.
If you are easily offended over any little thing, just save yourself the trouble and skip it. Otherwise, I highly recommend watching this series!
Ask yourself what if jesus comes during these times..messiah took it to the next level, its a smart tv series by letting people decide if he is true or not, by letting viewers decide if he is a hoax or the truth, and love the idea that he doesnt come in a specific religion he always say i walk with everyone , so no religion affiliation when it comes to al mesi, however the tv series looks expensive location shooting and all and authenthic , israelites speaks hewbrew, arabic countries speaks arabic i love it , it looks authenthic , its bingeable , not perfect but really is interesting, again this is a fictional tv series i hope we get a seaSON 2, im atheist but i enjoyed it ...

Of course this will be sensitive viewing for devoutly religious people and some are automatically going to hate it because many parts rely on subtitles. A pity.
Give it a try. It is a different and interesting premise, well acted and well filmed.

I was hooked from episode one. Actually binged the whole series in 2 nights. And the final episode was so great it left me scrambling to find the release date of season 2. And then I find out they are cancelling it??!! This is crazy to me!!!. I thought the characters and casting were perfect. The writing is so well done, the storyline was such an interesting mix of religion, human struggle and an honest look at society today. Perhaps that why self-absorbed critics didn't like it? Maybe it was too much of a look in the mirror for some?
All I know is that if Netflix doesn't "resurrect" this series I am going to be hugely disappointed. Unlike many series that get renewed with no real reason for another season, Messiah clearly has a bigger story to tell, I could see the trajectory and the momentum this series was building. This story is far from finished!!
I know there was some controversy and criticism from some religious groups as well as some Arab countries. Perhaps Netflix doesn't think the pushback is worth it? Last I checked, art was meant to move people, provoke controversy...takes courage to support a religious themed series in todays liberal, somewhat Godless society.
I for one have not given up hope, maybe Netflix will read all these positive reviews and bring it back. Just like in Messiah, miracles can happen!

As an ordained clergyperson myself, religion movies are often hard to watch because they get so many things wrong or treat subjects with an overly simplistic take. The writers of Messiah have not only crafted a well-written, compelling story with interesting characters and terrific acting, they've included real substance and authentic representation of religion.
The religious characters--Muslim, Christian, Jewish--are sympathetically presented with dignity and complexity. The religious texts and varying theologies are sensitively handled and respectfully addressed. Nor are religions presented in stereotypical ways: for example, Islam does believe that Jesus will return to herald in the end times, something not often known outside of Islam. But here, in Messiah, it is Muslims who first begin to follow al-Masih, believing him to be Isa (Jesus) returned.
At no point did I hear a character say something about a religious idea or do something in the guise of religion that was outlandish or the usual Hollywood version. The writers of this show clearly know what they're talking about and should be commended for that.
Further, the geopolitical, cultural, economic, and other issues are addressed in thoughtful ways that are not dumbed-down or simplified. They even manage to take on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in thoughtful ways.
In addition to all of that, the story is gripping and keeps you guessing all the way through. As one who believes that authentic faith requires embracing uncertainty and doubt, in many ways, this representation of lots of different people struggling to figure out whether al-Masih is the messiah or a charlatan was pitch perfect.

Some people are going to give zero because of their religious believes and some people are going to give 10 because they don't like those religious people. So just watch it by yourself and don't look at the reviews.

I don't understand Muslim people who would say that this show offends Islam. Me, as a Muslim, believe that something like this will happen. A man will appear who will claim that he is a messiah and he would have abilities to cure the sick, alive the dead and much more. He will come from the East and he will have followers from all religions. That's what Islam says. Of course, the true Muslims will know that he is a Dajjal, but also some Muslim will be his followers. This show is from Christian or Jewish side of story, and for them this guy will be messiah.
Message for Muslims which disapprove this show: If you couldn't recognize Dajjal in TV show, how would you recognize him in real life.
Peace to all good people.

I loved this show. I had no intention of watching it, liking it, but kind of fell into it. From the very start I was captivated. By the superb writing; the great acting. I loved that many of the principals were not well known. And I have to say that Avi, and especially the Messiah were awesome. It has to be very daunting to cast these roles. The Messiah was utterly believable, mesmerizing. In the episodes there were so many iconic scenes and lines. I had to binge watch the whole show; good thing I was off work for the day. I am still reeling from it. That is why my review is so scattered. The warring religions, the nations, the tribes and races were all handled with insight and respect. This is not a show about a cause, or a point of view. It is about the arrogance of humanity, and maybe about a reckoning to come.
I'd like to add a few points. I thought his speech early on ( I think Episode 2) on the steps in Jerusalem was very powerful. "History has ended"; and "no more bargaining with God; that day has passed; step forward and it will begin". There are other quotes by him. Matter of fact I wonder who wrote much of that dialogue. Also it there was a point made through out the series of young people, children in key places. Jibril and Rebecca with the eyes of the world upon them in Epi. 9. Neither one sure of what they were going to say, and both transcending. But everywhere you look in the show you see young replacing, needing to replace old. The era of old white men, and their running order must end. I don't say this as an opinion. It is stated as fact. And re. a Season 2 - yes of course, one wants to see more of this high caliber of writing and acting. But do we need things wrapped in a bow, Hollywood style? Are we that shallow? This tale has been told. Part of the narrative is just this - that we don't know, can't know. It is a call to action. That we are the actors of Season 2.

I just read the article that Netflix has decided against a second season of this amazing series. Why on earth would Netlfix basically cancel it? Let us hope that another network picks up this amazing series so that the story can be continued. When I see all of the mediocre materail Netflix currently is producing, I am stunned to see they are dropping this ground-breaking series. Shame.

What an incredible content start to 2020. Messiah on Netflix is worth the binge. It's smart, emotional, and the themes are both socially and politically relevant. #Messiah #MessiahNetflix

As a Muslim, I would like to thank the producer and author of the series. And thanks for the respect he has for Muslims. The understanding of Messiah is not in our religion. But I would like to thank you for their beautiful and level approach to each religion and for their humanistic view of the world. It's a production that needs to be watched and respected. It's the best show I've seen in a long time. Worth every minute I spend at the beginning.

This show is brilliant, I'm totally captivated and can't stop watching. It's phenomenal, your either a follower or a hater, just like in the show. It's totally unique, and I sincerely hope they haven't created a scam out of the messiah, that would be a cynical washout. The low rating is certainly not reflective on the show, or acting. The subject matter was always going to divide people. Brilliant. More seasons please!

Not answers, no suggestions. Only a respectful serie to different cultures and religious, well crafted, careful about details, good acting and a large liberty to give your answers to a reality- so expected and imagined by Christian- , a hoax or only a seductive - provocative serie. Its basic virtue- in special manner it represents a serie about its audience.

I think this tv show bases its story on the beliefs of Bahaism. Bahaism is a religion originated in Iran and then spread to the Middle East. Its leader was exiled to Israel and he was prosecuted there. Does it sound familiar? As far as I know, this belief system doesn't deny other religions and figuratively, it "walks with all men". Bahaism is still active in the world, particularly Haifa of Israel and Marakesh of Morocco.
In my opinion, the Messiah might be a Manifestation of God, not a harbinger of doom as the other major religions claim to be. I am putting some explanatory text I took from British Library's website:
----------------
The Baha'i Faith is strictly monotheistic. There is only one God, he is exalted above human understanding, so can only be understood and approached via his prophets and messengers (the 'Manifestations of God'). All the major world religions originally stem from the teachings of the Manifestations of God and comprise an essential unity. The Manifestations of God include Abraham, Moses, Jesus, Muhammad, Zoroaster, Krishna and the Buddha, and in the contemporary period, the Bab and Baha'u'llah. There will be more Manifestations in the distant future.
Each Manifestation addresses both eternal spiritual truths and the particular needs of his time. These needs change over time, so divine revelation is progressive in nature.
Baha'u'llah's key theme is world unity. The goal of developing a new world society is a paramount need at the present time. Central to the Baha'i Faith is that all human beings are equally God's creation regardless of gender, race, nationality or creed and should be respected and treated without prejudice. It is essential to work for the equality of men and women and the emancipation of minority groups. For the world's peoples and nations to live together in peace, international institutions need to be developed and systems of governance have to promote justice and human wellbeing for all.

Just became a member so I can post a review Messiah. Finished watching the whole series in 2 days and it is utterly brilliant. The cast are just fantastic, almost every character is brilliantly played and very believable. The story grips from the start and some of the scenes, especially when the Messiah is in chains and being interrogated, are up there in intensity with the best scenes from Breaking Bad.
The production and location shooting, not sure how they got permission to film at the Dome of Rock in Jerusalem, adds to the intense realism. I was really impressed that it took no sides between Israelis and Palestinians but showed both to be flawed in their own ways as well showing some background and context to the whole political situation in that region.
Would definitely recommend.

I watched episode 1.
Very funny and big comedy that CIA acts like as if they did not created all those terror groups such as ISIS El-Kaida etc. in order that US will steal all the oil of the poor public of Mesopotamia. CIA against the terror ha! 😂
You are disgustingly funny
I normally don't like to use captions, but you will need them for about half the time through this series, and it didn't bother me at all! It's a very intriguing series that makes you want to know "what's going to happen next". Makes you think and is very entertaining. If you need a series to get away and enjoy, I would recommend you give it try.
