As at the end of 2023 the Bank of England claims to have authorised 65 new Banks via its "new bank start up unit", Bank of Dave (BSAL) is not one of them as it is only a deposit taking savings scheme - more accurately called Burnley Savings And Loan. The BoE figure isn't overly representative of the truth as it includes a number of take-overs, overseas banks opening subsidiaries and some savings schemes - the true figure is probably seven new Banks in 150 years!
