After reading the script, Kathryn Hahn was convinced that she had little chance of landing the lead. So she bought a plane ticket to New York City and took Tamara Jenkins out for dinner on a charm offensive. Despite an incident with a spilled glass of wine, it worked.
Shot over a period of 30 days.
This is Tamara Jenkins' first film since her Oscar-nominated The Savages (2007) 11 years previously. She had spent the time as a writer for hire, teacher and being a new mother.
Had its world premiere at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, arriving on Netflix internationally 9 months later.
