In the tradition of “The Naked Gun”, the 1950’s detective crime drama series “Tightrope!" will be ‘re-imagined’ as a slapstick comedy series for The Roku Channel, fronted by Emmy winner Ty Burrell and executive produced by “Breaking Bad” star Bryan Cranston for his Moonshot Entertainment:
“…through reimagined dialogue and a new lead actor in Ty Burrell, ‘Tightrope!’ reshapes the drama of the vintage 1950’s series into a slapstick comedy, where Burrell plays a lone wolf detective following cases city to city, while he searches for his long-lost love who got away…”
“I was inspired by the ‘on-the-nose’ old drama series of the 50's,” said Cranston, “to mess with the whole thing and create a new version of a lunatic comedy, never seen before in a TV series.
Cranston’s Moonshot previously produced “Your Honor” (Showtime), “Sneaky Pete” (Amazon), “Dangerous Book for Boys” (Amazon), “Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams” (Amazon...

“Wonder Woman 1984” is still more than a year away, but we only have to wait six months to see one “Wonder Woman” reunion: Chris Pine and Patty Jenkins’ TNT limited series “I Am the Night,” which dropped its first trailer Monday.
The L.A.-set noir drama is based on the book “One Day She’ll Darken,” which tells the true story of Fauna Hodel (India Eisley), a young woman who, after learning she’s adopted, uncovers her dark family history that involves Dr. George Hodel (Jefferson Mays), an infamous gynecologist connected to the 1947 “Black Dahlia” murder.
Pine plays Jay Singletary, a Marine-turned-reporter/paparazzo who jumps on the story and takes phone calls shirtless when he’s not cruising around in period suits. The cast also includes Leland Orser, Dylan Smith, Jay Paulson, Yul Vazquez, Justin Cornwell and Golden Brooks. Jenkins directed the pilot and serves as executive producer,...

Seth Green and several other “Robot Chicken” writers and producers have sold an adult animated comedy pilot to Hulu, Variety has learned exclusively.
The series is titled “Crossing Swords.” When Patrick, a goodhearted young peasant with dreams of earning his knighthood and dispensing justice to evildoers, lands a coveted squire position at the royal castle, his dream job quickly turns into a nightmare. In this kingdom, corruption starts at the top, and staying true to his lofty goals will be a thornier proposition than Patrick anticipated. It’s all the sex, violence and full-frontal nudity you’d expect from a “premium fantasy soap starring pre-school toys.”
John Havartine and Tom Root will write and executive produce. Havartine joined “Robot Chicken” as an executive producer in 2012 during the show’s sixth season, while Root is the show’s head writer and executive producer. Green will also executive produce along with Matt Senreich and Eric Towner.

Sony’s Crackle is developing a series reimagining of the Joseph Conrad novel “Heart of Darkness,” Variety has learned exclusively.
The project is set in the future where Earth is a distant memory. It is described as an exploration of what it means to be human on a space odyssey where the survival of the human race hangs in the balance and will explore themes of race, immigration, and colonization much like the book.
“Heart of Darkness” has been adapted in various forms over the years. Perhaps most famously, it served as the inspiration for Francis Ford Coppola’s 1979 Academy Award-winning Vietnam war film “Apocalypse Now” starring Martin Sheen and Marlon Brando in the main roles from the novel.
Cameron Litvack serves as writer as well as showrunner. He will executive produce along with Branden Morgan and Tony Giglio.
Litvack has previously worked as a writer and producer on shows like “Quantico,...

Updated: “The Oath,” the L.A.-set crime drama from executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, is returning for a second season on Sony’s Crackle streaming network.
According to Sony, “The Oath” season 1 — which premiered March 8 with the bingeable release of all 10 episodes — has been Crackle’s most-watched original series ever and currently has the highest viewer-retention rate. Sony didn’t release specific metrics, however.
“The Oath” explores the secret underworld of gang crime rings — in which the members who make the cut take a pledge to do whatever it takes to protect each other from their enemies. Season 1 of “The Oath” was shot in Puerto Rico over three months last year, interrupted by the devastation of Hurricane Maria.
“Our audience has truly responded to this authentic, raw, and compelling series,” Eric Berger, Crackle Gm and chief digital officer of Sony Pictures Television Networks, said at Crackle’s upfront presentation...

Here’s how Bryan Cranston explains his current production slate: “I have eclectic taste as an adult.” And given the variety of genres his four current projects explore, that checks out.
“That’s what I love about it, because I don’t like to trample upon the same stories,” he said, noting that while Amazon’s “Sneaky Pete” is an edgy con-man story and “Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams” delves deeply into the realm of sci-fi, his latest series, “The Dangerous Book for Boys,” is “a family adventure, fun, and beautiful.” (Cranston is also an executive producer on the Sony Crackle animated series “Supermansion.”)
Next up for Cranston, “The Dangerous Book for Boys,” which stars Erinn Hayes as the widowed mother of three boys in need of some advice.
The show is technically based on the book by Conn and Hal Iggulden, but as Cranston explains below, the path...

Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key have signed on to re-team for director Henry Selick’s new-stop motion film titled Wendell and Wild. The duo will provide voices for the stop-motion animated feature playing two scheming demon brothers. Who exactly is this Henry Selick fella you ask?
Admit it, You thought Tim Burton directed The Nightmare Before Christmas, James and the Giant Peach, and Coraline. It was in fact Mr. Selick. Selick is known for his unique style, who you ever so foolishly thought was Tim Burton’s style. His (not Burton’s) new film will be landing on Netflix in the not-too-distant future. This will surely disappoint those who enjoy stop-motion theatrical releases, but who will no doubt relish in the fact the new film Wendell and Wild also features the re-teaming of Key & Peele.
The script will be written by Selick, Peele and Clay McLeod Chapman. Peele is a busy man.

Charles Manson is dead, and everyone who’s never carved a swastika into their forehead is relieved. Bryan Cranston would appear to be among them, despite his initial reaction to the news — the former Walter White says he “shuddered” when he heard of the cult leader’s death, as it reminded him of an encounter he had with Manson not long before the Tate-labianca murders.

Luck was with me when a cousin and I went horseback riding at the Span [sic] Ranch, and saw the little man with crazy eyes whom the other hippies called Charlie.” The actor didn’t elaborate on his story, but the Spahn Ranch is where the Manson Family...

Why We’re Obsessed With ‘Stranger Things 2’
The Duffer Brothers’ surprise hit Netflix series is back with a second season -- and it doesn’t disappoint! And for those keeping track, expect plenty of nods and references to everything from The Exorcist and Ghostbusters to Jurassic Park and Lost. Crackle’s stop-motion animation comedy, “SuperMansion,” stands out as unique in the television landscape, as very few animated shows blend cutting-edge technology with old-school stop-motion techniques in quite the same way.
For a glimpse as to how they make it happen, Crackle has released the below exclusive look, hosted by executive producer Bryan Cranston (who also voices superhero Titanium Rex), at the many cogs in the “SuperMansion” machine.
This includes a tour of the sets, a meet-and-greet with the puppet designers, and even a look at how individual costumes are handcrafted, while a 3-D printer is used to fabricate the artist’s designs for each tangible, miniature character.

Last Year’s Winner: “Archer”
Still Eligible: Yes.
Hot Streak: “South Park” has been nominated four years in a row, 12 of the last 13 years. “The Simpsons” has been nominated two years in a row, but previously had a 24-year hot streak before it missed out on a nod in 2014.
Fun Fact: “The Simpsons” and “South Park” have been duking it out in this category for as long as the latter has been in existence. Fox’s iconic comedy has 10 awards and 25 nominations, while Comedy Central’s most heralded series of all time has five wins and 15 nods.
With one of last year’s nominees no longer eligible — “Phineas and Ferb,” which aired its final episode in 2015 — there’s at least one open slot in the Outstanding Animated Program category. That’s good news for the newcomers and those denied entry for past season. We’re hoping that bodes well for “BoJack Horseman,...
