In today’s TV news roundup, Hulu released premiere dates for “Ramy,” “The Great” and “Solar Opposites,” and Variety obtained an exclusive clip from “Duncanville.”

Showtime announced Mo’nique‘s new standup comedy special, “Mo’nique & Friends: Live From Atlanta,“ will air Feb. 7 at 10 p.m. The hour-long special features a variety of talented newcomers including Prince T-Dub, Just Nesh, Tone-x and Correy Bell alongside veteran comedian Donnell Rawlings. “Mo’nique & Friends: Live From Atlanta” is executive produced by Sidney Hicks and Mo’nique Hicks, and produced by Matt Schuler, Eric Abrams and V.W. Scheich.

Freeform announced “Motherland: Fort Salem” will premiere March 18 at 9 p.m. Set in an alternate, present-day America where witches ended their persecution 300 years ago by cutting a deal with the U.S. government to fight for their country, the show follows three young women through basic training in combat magic into terrifying and thrilling early deployment.

Freeform has dropped the trailer for its upcoming “Motherland: Fort Salem” trailer, and it features an army of witches that you won’t want to mess with.

The network also set the show’s premiere date for March 18 at 9 p.m. Et/Pt.

The drama series was created by “Claws” writer Eliot Lawrence, and is executive produced by “Succession” trio Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Kevin Messick.

Freeform’s mermaid drama Siren will kick off its third season with a two-episode premiere on Thursday, April 2 at 9 Pm. The network also released a first-look photo (see below) at the TCA Winter Press Tour.

The series is based on a story by co-writers Eric Wald and Dean White, and is set in the coastal town of Bristol Cove, known in legend an an ancient home of mermaids. The legend part changed, though, when reality set in with the arrival of the mysterious Ryn (Eline Powell), who wreaks havoc on the small fishing town.

There’s plenty of drama heading in to Season 3. It picks up following Ben’s shocking decision to let the reporter die at the end of season two, which has ripple effects in his relationship with Maddie and Ryn. Freeform has picked up the drama “Last Summer” to series, it was announced Friday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour.

The show had been picked up to pilot at the cabler back in September. Bert V. Royal serves as writer and executive producer, with Jessica Biel and Michelle Purple executive producing under their Iron Ocean Productions banner. Max Winkler directed the pilot and also executive produces. The series hails fro eOne.

“Last Summer” is described as a thriller that takes place over three summers—‘93, ‘94, ‘95—in a small Texas town when a beautiful and popular teen, Kate, goes missing. Then, seemingly unrelated, a girl named Jeanette goes from being a sweet and awkward outlier to the most popular girl in town and, by ’95, the most despised person in America. Each episode is told from the Pov of one of the two main girls.

The new Dementia 13 trailer shows that some children won’t stay submerged.

Chiller Films has dropped the trailer for the upcoming retelling of Francis Ford Coppola’s atmospheric 1963 debut film Dementia 13, which was produced by independent movie maestro Roger Corman.

“A vengeful ghost, a mysterious killer, and a family where everyone has a secret converge in one night of terror,” the official synopsis promises.

The reimaging was directed by Richard LeMay (Blood Bound, Naked As We Come). Dementia 13 was written by Dan DeFilippo, who wrote the screenplays for The Invaders and Chilling Visions: 5 States of Fear) and Justin Smith (SiREN, The Boy).

The original movie told the tale of Luana Anders a scheming young woman who murders her husband and infiltrates his disturbing family’s stately, out-of-the-way mansion on a lake in Ireland. Her plans are interrupted by an axe-wielding lunatic who stalks and hacks up the family.

Dementia 13 is the retelling of Francis Ford Coppola’s film of the same name, which was produced by Roger Corman.

The film was written by Dan DeFilippo (The Invaders) and Justin Smith (SiREN, The Boy), is directed by Richard LeMay (Blood Bound, Naked As We Come) and stars Channing Pickett (Redheads Anonymous), Marianne Noscheze (Horror Time), Christian Ryan (Celebrity Ghost Stories, Casters), Julia Campanelli (116) and Ana Isabelle (The Eyes, Lost Cat Corona).

Siren is based on the segment 'Amaeteur Night' from V/H/S (2012), which was highly praised by horror fans. With Hannah Fierman reprising her role as Lily from the segment, the film was shot in 18 days and edited in 4 weeks.

I am a fan of the first V/H/S, particularly the segment upon which this film is based, Amateur Night. This prequel-sequel unfortunately does not do the series justice. What made the first film great was the romantic element, you just couldn't help but fall in love with Lily. She was the cute, quiet, shy girl who "likes you." Siren rushes every encounter with Lily, and does next to nothing when it comes to expanding any sort of story surrounding her. Not to mention, she seemed to change from a succubus to a siren somewhere in between these two films.

Make no mistake about it: this was a great year for horror fans. It was so good, in fact, that making a list of “favorites” is almost impossible because there’s just too much I want to talk about. The independent horror scene continues to crank out new classics and minor gems, but even studio horror was good this year: The Conjuring 2, Don’t Breathe, Ouija: Origin of Evil, Lights Out (not my bag, but a lot of people really enjoyed it), The Boy (not a lot of people’s bag, but I really enjoyed it), The Purge: Election Year, and so on. Even better? Pretty much every one of them was successful at the box office. As more and more horror moves are released with the limited release / VOD model, it’s nice to know that good movies still play to big audiences at the multiplex.

And what about horror on TV?...

Lurking within pages, displayed on the big and small screens, and at home on the airwaves, the horror genre thrived last year. 2016 was packed with great genre offerings, and although it's difficult to filter through the creepy contents of such a banner year for the genre, I forced myself to choose the moments that stuck with me the most... and still haunt my nightmares.

Green Room: Never did violence feel more real onscreen to me this year than the scenes in Jeremy Saulnier’s Green Room. The third feature film from the Blue Ruin and Murder Party director is ripe with palpable frights in its depiction of a vicious battle between a punk band and neo-Nazis led by Patrick Stewart’s calculating Darcy. You can practically feel your sweaty palms wrapping around a broken fluorescent tube as the Ain’t Rights prepare for their most important performance yet as...

Beginning on ground well covered in bachelor-party cinema but veering into stranger territory early on, Gregg Bishop's Siren sends four young men in search of exotic temptations but gives them a monster instead. Stocked with T&A but less explicitly sexual when it comes to the woman/demon at its center, the movie is protective of its nearly nonverbal star in a way that should be welcomed by horror buffs, though crossover appeal is slim.

Gregg Bishop first caught our attention back in 2008 with his hilarious zomedy, Dance of the Dead (review). That film also caught the attention of Sam Raimi, who released it under his Ghost House deal with Lionsgate. But, like the titular siren in his latest film, Bishop lay dormant for the nearly ten years following. Now, with his slight-of-hand V/H/S: Viral segment "Dante the Great", and the gender subverting new horror feature SiREN,  an adaptation of David Bruckner's V/H/S segment "Amateur Night", it appears Bishop is back in fine form.   In the film, a bachelor party becomes a savage fight for survival when the groomsmen unwittingly unleash a fabled predator upon the festivities. He owns an array of strange items that could rival the displays of Marvel's The Collector, and with a heavenly voice that can kill, Lily is the prized possession of the eccentric Mr. Nyx in Gregg Bishop's SiREN. Based on David Bruckner's "Amateur Night" segment from V/H/S, SiREN comes out in theaters today from Chiller Films (ahead of its VOD, Digital HD, and DVD release on December 6th), and Daily Dead recently had the opportunity to speak with Mr. Nyx himself, Justin Welborn, who discussed bringing the enigmatic character to life in his fourth collaboration with Gregg Bishop, and also reflected on their midnight movie masterpiece, Dance of the Dead.

What was your initial reaction when you heard that they wanted to do a feature film adaptation of David Bruckner's segment from V/H/S?

That’s how impactful producers felt this vignette proved, enough to spark interest for an expansion beyond its creative team. David Bruckner — the source material’s director and co-writer with Nicholas Tecosky — stayed on as an executive producer while working second unit, ultimately passing the baton to Bishop in order to focus on his own feature Southbound. In that respect this project could be labeled as a full-fledged remake with screenwriters Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski crafting an entirely new mythology. They saw Lily (Hannah Fierman) as more than a succubus wreaking havoc upon co-eds. They saw a feral siren desperate to escape from underneath an entrepreneurial occultist’s thumb.

Sirens would draw Greek sailors to their doom, with their beautiful voices. Now, at least one inhabits director Gregg Bishop (V/H/S Viral) and David Bruckner's upcoming horror feature Siren. Developed from Bruckner's short film "Amateur Night," Jonah rescues a girl, from a supernatural sex club. But, she proves more than he can handle. The film stars: Chase Williamson (John Dies at the End), Justin Welborn (The Final Destination), Michael Aaron Milligan, Hayes Mercure, and Randy McDowell. An early clip from Siren is hosted here. The clip shows Jonah (Williamson) and the Siren (Hannah Fierman) in a bathroom. Both characters are hounded by a masked, knife wielding man. Jonah cowers as the Siren attacks. And, the results are gruesome. Siren is slated for a December launch. The film will see a few theatres this December 2nd. On December 6th, the film will be launched on VOD and on DVD.

Based on the original V/H/S short by David Bruckner, about a group of revelers who try to take advantage of a girl only to discover themselves at her mercy, Siren takes that idea to feature length.
