A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Musical, starring a terrific James Monroe Iglehart as the legendary Satchmo, opens on Broadway tonight at the Roundabout Theatre Company’s Studio 54, and if it doesn’t escape every pitfall of the jukebox musical, it certainly comes closer than most. Tom Holland and Austin Butler to play race car-driving brothers in true crime drama ‘American Speed’
Tom Holland and Austin Butler are getting behind the wheel together. The in-demand actors have signed on to play real-life brothers who were race car drivers and crooks in “American Speed,” a film package that just sold to Amazon MGM Studios, according to Deadline.
Holland (the Spider-Man films) and Butler (Academy Award nominee for “Elvis”) will play two of the three Whittington brothers, who were star race car drivers in the ‘70s and ‘80s. Two of the brothers, Don and Bill, got caught up in a scandal at the Imsa Motorsport Association, where their team was funding their racing activities with money earned from marijuana smuggling. Their story lends itself to a “Scarface”-era period piece with fast cars, fast boats, lots of money, and a rise-and-fall narrative, or “Blow” meets “The Iron Claw.”

There’s no doubt that ever since its release back in 2020, Riot Games’ Valorant has taken the entire gaming community by storm. A tactical shooter by nature, it has been dominating Twitch for years now. From casual players to big-name professionals, everyone seems to be on the bandwagon and simply can’t get enough of this shooter.
Riot still hasn’t addressed this issue in Valorant. (Image via Riot)
The major reason behind the shooter’s success is Riot’s constant efforts to push boundaries and introduce new gameplay aspects and features. While it’s great to see the developers actively listening to the community, it seems like they’ve ignored one of the biggest gripes with Unrated games in Valorant, which might turn into a downward spiral if it is not fixed immediately.

Pedro Almodóvar’s “The Room Next Door” won the Golden Lion at the 81st Venice Film Festival. The Spanish auteur’s first feature in English took the top prize at the awards ceremony on Saturday, where he accepted the honor in person. Based on Sigrid Nunez’s novel “What Are You Going Through,” the film stars Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore as friends who reunite after several years.
Though Almodóvar’s latest was not reviewed as enthusiastically as most of his films (a high bar to cross), the drama was still favored to do well at the Venice awards. When it premiered earlier this week, it was met with a lengthy standing ovation of almost 20 minutes — a warm reception even for festival audiences. And few are the cinephiles in Europe who do not consider the director of “All About My Mother,” “Talk to Her,” “Volver,” “Bad Education” and “Parallel Mothers” a living great.

Neill Blomkamp will follow the success of Gran Turismo with Alpha, starring Aaron Paul as an FBI agent hunting a prison inmate turned into an apex predator.
Neill Blomkamp hasn’t had a lot of luck with getting projects to the screen in the last decade. Plenty of ink has been spilled about his aborted take on Alien 5, but there’s also RoboCop Returns, the Halo film (although that project’s demise led directly to District 9) and, dare we say it, District 10.
The last project on that list may yet happen, some day. Blomkamp began talking about a sequel to his beloved science fiction movie back in 2021, with star Sharlto Copley adding a couple of years ago that it was still at least a year away from shooting. We’re now two years on and there’s still no sign of the film coming together.

“If we did this as a live-action movie, it would probably cost $500M,” said Transformers One producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura about the Paramount Animation and Hasbro title that kicked off Comic-Con 2024 today.
Talking about why the origin story of Megatron and Optimus Prime went animated instead of live-action, di Bonaventura added: “What has been tricky in live-action is that every time a robot talks, it costs a lot of money. In animation, you can have them build out their character.”

The older brother is diligent and responsible, the younger one has squandered his savings on gambling. After the semblance of agreement is reached, government intervention throws the region into turbulence and reveals that even those closest to us may become the most destructive enemies.

The new 7 Days to Die update takes some fun stuff away from the gameplay. And players hate the update the most right now.
However, there are valid reasons behind why the devs did what they did. And even if players complain much about it, there is nothing to do but to move on. We are talking about the zombie loot aspect of the game, which has been apparently tweaked up.
Nostalgia Holds The Warmth of Joy in 7 Days to Die
Some critics mention that there was a time when the game was a sea of loot, with zombies frequently dropping valuable items. This helped players go on in the game without requiring them to venture into towns or other places of interest. But now, players notice that zombie drop rates have plummeted after the recent 1.0 release.

It is the only the third feature from UK-based animators the Quay Brothers,...

The Giornate Degli Autori, simply known as Venice Days, has unveiled its 2024 lineup.
The independently run event, which takes place alongside the Venice Film Festival, will this year follow a theme of creatures “poised over an abyss, walking a tightrope.” “To reach the other side, or else to escape from something behind them, or just because, seen from above — lost in time, lost in space — things look very different,” event organizers said.
The only Italian title in competition is Ciro De Caro’s Taxi Monamour, about two women who lose their way yet stubbornly persist in living life as they wish. Dutch filmmaker Jan-Willem Van Ewijk’s third feature film, Alpha., follows a troubled father-son relationship set high in the Swiss Alps.
French filmmaker Marie Losier revisits the feminist singer and performer Peaches and a 14-year-long friendship in Peaches Goes Bananas, shot over the course of 17 years, while the directorial debut of Shahab Fotouhi,...

Films directed by women dominate the Venice Film Festival’s independently run Giornate Degli Autori, which has unveiled a lineup full of first works and special events including “Peaches Goes Bananas,” French filmmaker Marie Losier’s tribute to iconic Canadian electropop provocateur Peaches.
Shot over the course of 17 years, “Peaches Goes Bananas” provides an intimate portrait of the former schoolteacher, who during the 1980s moved from Canada to Berlin and became a queer feminist icon, breaking taboos and “transforming her body into art,” as the doc’s synopsis puts it.
The competition of the Giornate – which is also known as Venice Days – comprises 10 world premieres, six of which are first works, within a selection that artistic director Gaia Furrer described in her notes as “rigorous” and “stylistically eclectic.”
Furer underlined that 16 out of the section’s 25 titles are directed by women, a fact she called significant “because many of them...

Neon has acquired the rights to “Shelby Oaks,” a found-footage horror film (think: “The Blair Witch Project”) that is the feature directorial debut of YouTuber Chris Stuckmann.
Stuckmann is known for his movie review YouTube channel that has more than 2 million subscribers, but his debut feature was born with a Kickstarter in 2022. Stuckmann raised $1.39 million in less than a month, the most-funded horror film ever on Kickstarter.
“Shelby Oaks” follows Mia as she frantically searches for her sister Riley, who ominously disappeared in the last tape of her investigative series, “Paranormal Paranoids.” The characters are YouTubers themselves in the mid-aughts who in the course of their investigation discover that there’s a paranormal force that dates back to their childhood.
Neon picked up the worldwide rights to “Shelby Oaks” ahead of its world premiere at the Fantasia Festival this Saturday. Stuckmann has been heavily touting the film on his YouTube channel,...

Fresh off the success of last weekend’s “Longlegs,” Neon announced Tuesday that it has acquired worldwide rights to the “Shelby Oaks,” which was written and directed by filmmaker and YouTube creator Chris Stuckmann. It marks Stuckmann’s feature directorial debut. The film is described as a documentary-found footage crossover. It will have its world premiere at Fantasia Festival on Saturday. Neon will release the film theatrically in the U.S. and handle international sales.
“Shelby Oaks” stars Camille Sullivan (“Hunter Hunter”), Brendan Sexton III (“Don’t Breathe 2”) and Sarah Durn (“Where the Crawdads Sing”). It follows a woman named Mia (Sullivan) as she frantically searches for her sister Riley (Durn), who ominously disappeared in the last tape of her investigative series, “Paranormal Paranoids.” Stuckmann’s film benefitted from a 2022 Kickstarter campaign, which raised $1.4 million for the film in under a month, making it the most-funded horror film in the service’s history.
