Last year, it was reported that Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight was tapped to pen the screenplay for the untitled Rey-centric Star Wars movie with Ms. Marvel‘s Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy attached to direct. The new cinematic Star Wars installment is the same one that Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson originally penned before they departed. Knight is best known for creating Peaky Blinders, the period crime drama starring Cillian Murphy, but he is also known for his work on Eastern Promises, Dirty Pretty Things, Locke, Allied, Spencer, Taboo, See, Sas: Rogue Heroes, and more. It’s said that this new Star Wars movie will mark the franchise’s return to the big screen following the release of The Rise of Skywalker in 2019.
Variety is now reporting that Steven Knight has also left the proposed Star Wars project for undisclosed reasons. This comes long after production was expected to kick off earlier...

If Kylie Minogue’s Tension generated its, well, tension from its fluctuations between propulsive electro-pop and breezy synth-pop, the album’s sequel, Tension II, fully commits to the former. “Padam Padam” is a direct influence here, with the slinky, undulating synths and robotic vocal hooks of tracks like “Kiss Bang Bang” and “Hello,” an outtake from the original sessions, clearly indebted to that sleeper hit from Tension.
The new album, which could have easily been called More Tension, is Minogue’s most shamelessly ingratiating collection of dance-pop songs since 2010’s Aphrodite—maybe even 2001’s Fever. The Aussie pop singer has, admirably, never before tried to replicate that album’s global smash, “Can’t Get You Out of My Head,” but the frothy “Diamonds,” with its unrelenting bassline and earworm vocable, makes a valiant attempt. Elsewhere, the rollicking bass and string sample of “Taboo” nods to another infectious club anthem from the...

“Monster” Season 3 has added Laurie Metcalf, Tom Hollander, and Olivia Williams to its cast, Variety has learned exclusively.
The trio join previously announced cast member Charlie Hunnam, who will star as Ed Gein in the next season of the Netflix anthology series. According to sources, Metcalf will play Gein’s mother, Augusta, while Hollander will play Alfred Hitchcock and Williams will play Alma Reville, Hitchcock’s wife.
Given that Gein served as one of the inspirations for Norman Bates and Hitchcock’s film “Psycho,” it would appear Season 3 of the hit Netflix anthology will delve into how Gein’s crimes influenced the film and the novel upon which the film was based.
Gein became infamous in the 1950s when authorities discovered that he not only had killed multiple people, but had dug up graves from a cemetery near his home and fashioned all manner of household items and clothing from human remains.

Saturday Night Live has not exactly been revered in the 2020s. The show has hit a bit of a lull in terms of cultural relevance, and the departure of beloved cast members has led to a period of uncertainty in terms of who the next breakout star will be.
Despite these setbacks, there have been some truly exceptional SNL guests this decade. From TV stars and musicians to movie stars and returning cast members, these are the five that have stood out and will likely stand the test of time.
5. Emma Stone (Season 49)
Emma Stone is a pro. She's one of the few Saturday Night Live hosts in the prestigious five-timers club, and she proved that could still deliver the goods a decade after making her hosting debut. The Oscar winner was absolutely game during her season 49 episode, spearheading hilarious skits like "What's in the Kiln?" and a reprisal of her 2017 "Posters" bit.

Tadanobu Asano is set to receive The Hollywood Reporter’s Trailblazer Award at the upcoming 37th installment of the Tokyo International Film Festival next month.
The chameleonic screen actor has been a mainstay of Japanese cinema for nearly three decades while regularly appearing in prominent supporting parts in big Hollywood productions. But his swaggering recent performance as the irascible samurai Yabushige on FX‘s smash-hit series Shogun has given him an all-new level of global recognition over the past year. In the process of becoming an indelible fan favorite, Asano also received his first Emmy nomination for the part.
THR’s Trailblazer Award, whose recent honorees include six-time Emmy winner Jean Smart, David Oyelowo, Eva Longoria, Matt Bomer, Niecy Nash-Betts and America Ferrera, is given to artists whose work and careers illuminate stories and characters who have been traditionally marginalized in Hollywood. International editor Abid Rahman will present Asano with the award on Oct.

Tom Hardy — the actor without a single flawed performance in his career (with the humble exception of Capone) — brings something new to the table every time he steps into a frame. Be it film or television, the individuality of Tom Hardy is captivating, inevitable, and wholly exceptional.

The physicality that the actor brings to his roles coupled with his trademark voice modulations make him an undefeated champion of modern cinema. Hardy’s legacy will live on in every character he brought alive on the screen, unlike that of actors who will always be remembered by one franchise or one role.

British production outfit United Heroes is set to adapt Live, Fight, Survive, British soldier Shaun Pinner’s autobiographical memoir of his harrowing experience in the Ukraine war, as a feature film with the working title The English Warrior.
Pinner’s book is a raw, first-hand account of being an English soldier caught in the midst of Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine. After marrying a Ukrainian woman and joining the country’s military as a sniper instructor, Pinner found himself on the frontlines defending Mariupol. Outnumbered and outgunned by vastly superior Russian forces, Pinner was finally captured and held for months as a prisoner of war.
The book’s title comes from the message his wife gave Pinner in their final call before his capture, that he should “Live. Fight. Survive.”

It's rare to watch an actor's star rise in real-time, but that is precisely what is happening with Anya Taylor-Joy.
The actress has nary a single project in her resume that wasn't loved by critics and audiences alike, save for a big-budget script or two.
With barely an entire decade under her belt, Anya Taylor-Joy already has thirty-nine nominations, including fifteen wins, three of which are a Golden Globe, a Critic's Choice Aware, and a Screen Actor's Guild award.
Not too bad, considering she's not even thirty yet. She's made some significant moves and has quickly solidified herself as one of Hollywood's most talented young actors.
From protecting the Mushroom Kingdom to questionable fine dining, Anya Taylor-Joy has embarked on various roles. Whether it's just her voice or a full view of her stealing every scene with her piercing gaze, the actress has the skill of someone with decades of experience.

Veteran Japanese character actor Tadanobu Asano is having a very overdue breakthrough moment. The chameleonic film star has been a mainstay of Japanese cinema for nearly three decades, while also regularly appearing in prominent supporting parts in big Hollywood productions. But his irresistible performance in FX’s period series Shōgun is giving him an all-new level of global recognition.
Asano co-stars in Shōgun as Kashigi Yabushige, the scheming lord of Izu, a rugged region of feudal Japan where much of the series takes place. While the Marvel Universe continues to chug along and James Gunn attempts to resuscitate the DC universe into something worth watching, we will yet again go back to the world of graphic novels for our inspiration on book vs movie. It’s really a very untapped realm as there are so many good horror comics out there, many without adaptations yet. The ones that have been adapted are very fun and interesting. Today is the mostly forgotten early 2000s movie From Hell (watch it Here), which is based on the stunning and epic graphic novel from famed wizard and all-around cranky dude Alan Moore. Like many graphic novels, the journey to page and then screen was a long and arduous one. It is based on the very real killings in Whitechapel that were later attributed to Jack the Ripper. While both have a lot of truths to them along with...

Makar Sankranti Box Office: How Much Have 15 Films Collected In The Last 10 Years (Picture Credit: IMDb)
Makar Sankranti is the first festival of the year. Festivals go hand in hand with the Box Office collection in Bollywood. However, it is one festival that has not yielded great results – the first festival that falls on January 14. The last blockbuster that was released on Makar Sankranti was Hrithik Roshan‘s Kaho Naa Pyar Hai, which started the century with a bang. However, the last film to release on January 14 was Yamla Pagla Deewana, which did a fair business at the box office.
Ypd, starring Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol & Dharmendra, collected 7.75 crore on February 14. The film collected 55 crore in its lifetime and 23 crore on the Sankranti weekend. It was a hit at the box office.

2023 had been a delightful year for Hindi films, and Shah Rukh Khan showed his unreal domination at the box office. January Box Office Openers: Will Katrina Kaif’s Merry Christmas Break The Dreaded January Jinx(Photo Credit –IMDb/Instagram)
Bollywood seemed to have followed a strange pattern for the release dates of films in December and January. While there is a constant battle to grab the spot for the last release of the year, there is an eerie silence to occupy the dates for opening a year. Usually, no big release is excited to open the year or become the first film to release in January. Ever wondered why?
January seems to be a little jinxed for films that open the year at the box office. Not that we believe in such stuff, but the data provided says otherwise. In the last 15 years, every first film of the year that has been released at the box office has met a disastrous fate.
Sometimes, filmmakers have even waited for the second...

Moulin Rouge! The Musical has found its next Harold Zidler in Boy George, who’ll be making his long-awaited Broadway return from February 6th through May 12th, 2024.
Currently played by Tituss Burgess through next month, the character of Harold Zidler is the owner of the Moulin Rouge night club, also serving as the musical’s de facto emcee. Coincidentally, Boy George’s last time on Broadway — which was over 20 years ago — was Taboo, another musical about a night club.
Moulin Rouge! The Musical is directed by Alex Timbers with a book by John Logan, and is based on Baz Luhrmann’s eponymous 2001 film. It features a wide array of pop hits like “Single Ladies,” “Every Breath You Take,” and, of course, “Lady Marmalade,” which is all well-charted territory for Boy George, who rose to fame as the lead singer of the band Culture Club.

The latest feature from David Fincher, a big-budget drama series from Steven Knight and Shawn Levy, and an Oscar hopeful starring Annette Bening and Jodie Foster are among the standout new additions hitting Netflix in November.
With The Killer, Fincher reteams with Seven writer Andrew Kevin Walker to adapt the graphic novel written by Alexis Nolent. The film, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival this year and debuts on Netflix on Nov. 10, stars Michael Fassbender as a shadowy unnamed assassin and features a cast that includes Arliss Howard, Charles Parnell, Gabriel Polanco, Kerry O’Malley, Emiliano Pernía, Sala Baker, Sophie Charlotte and Tilda Swinton.
The Hollywood Reporter‘s review of The Killer described the film as “a satisfyingly retro, location-hopping genre exercise with fisticuffs, gadgets (albeit ones bought from Amazon) and smooth-talking antagonists that all plays like a tongue-in-cheek spoof of James Bond movies.”

“The Gilded Age,” Julian Fellowes’ critically lauded follow-up to “Downton Abbey,” has returned for a second season on HBO. Although “The Gilded Age” slightly alters the formula that made “Downton Abbey” so popular, swapping out turn-of-the-century England for a rapidly developing America in the late 1800s, it takes place just a few decades before its predecessor. Does that just reflect Fellowes’ fascination with a particular period? Or should we take it as a sign from a master of the genre that this is the ideal setting for a period piece TV show?

Japan’s Tetsuya Tomina is a director preoccupied with presence — a beguiling sense of place or striking actors simply existing on screen.
His second feature, Who Were We?, which premiered in competition this week at the Tokyo International Film Festival, is a metaphysical love story that follows a man and a woman — played by young stars Nana Komatsu and Ryuhei Matsuda — who find themselves on the premises of an ancient gold mine on Japan’s remote Sado Island with no memory of how they got there or who they are.
The premise for the film came to Tomina as he was finishing his debut feature Blue Wind Blows (2018), which was also shot on Sado Island (and later premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival in the Generation Kplus section). Walking the island, the director was struck by the sight of a landform known as”Split Mountain” in Japanese, a towering...

Since she first gained national attention in the UK on the BBC talent show "I'd Do Anything," Jessie Buckley has made a memorable impression playing women who find themselves in the company of dangerous men. On the show, she competed the role of Nancy, the tragic wife of abusive Bill Sykes in a new stage version of "Oliver!" Nine years later, she made her film debut in "Beast" as Moll, a young woman who falls for a charismatic drifter who may or may not be a murderer. In the same year, she aided Tom Hardy's brutish protagonist wage his personal war against the powerful East India Company in "Taboo."
More recently, in the Oscar-nominated "Women Talking," she joined an excellent ensemble playing a group of women who are systematically drugged and sexually assaulted by the men in their community. Is it that she's drawn to roles where she can tackle toxic masculinity?...

Scottish thriller Guilt is back for the third and final chapter in the McCall Brothers trilogy. Neil Forsyth’s fiendishly plotted drama all began when Max and Jake – a ruthless lawyer who’d climbed his way out of his working class Leith upbringing to wealth and status, and his vinyl-loving record shop slacker sibling – were flung together when they tried to cover up an accidental hit-and-run. So began a complex and gripping story about money laundering, Edinburgh gangsters, betrayal, class, family and yes, guilt.
Series three finds Max and Jake forced back to Edinburgh where some old enemies await. They’re joined by Pi-turned legal advisor Kenny Burns, his police detective girlfriend Yvonne, criminal kingpin Maggie Lynch, dangerously unpredictable ex-con Teddy and more familiar faces from the first two series. Also appearing are a range of new characters, as follows:

“If you want to make a TV drama about opium smokers, sadomasochists and imperial slavery in the 19th century, then write your own,” whines The Daily Mail‘s Peter Hitchens about Steven Knight’s new Great Expectations adaptation, presumably forgetting that in 2017, Knight did exactly that in 8-part Gothic Regency thriller Taboo.
Knight’s previous series starring Tom Hardy, bleeds into his take on Charles Dickens’ class and snobbery novel, which loses the comedy and grimes up the characters with the addition of adult content. Great Expectations returns to Knight’s constant theme of social mobility, moving away from ones roots, and the upper classes being mad, evil bastards, as explored in six series of Peaky Blinders.

Lucasfilm has had difficulty getting a new Star Wars movie off the ground, but perhaps Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight will have better luck. Variety has reported that Steven Knight is set to pen the screenplay for the untitled Star Wars movie with Ms. Marvel‘s Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy attached to direct. The Star Wars movie is the same one that Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson originally penned before they departed.
Steven Knight is best known for creating Peaky Blinders, the period crime drama starring Cillian Murphy, but he is also known for his work on Eastern Promises, Dirty Pretty Things, Locke, Allied, Spencer, Taboo, See, Sas: Rogue Heroes, and more. Plot: Great Expectations is the coming-of-age story of “Pip,” an orphan who yearns for a greater lot in life, until a twist of fate and the evil machinations of the mysterious and eccentric “Miss Havisham” shows him a dark world of possibilities. Under the great expectations placed upon him, Pip will have to work out the true cost of this new world and whether it will truly make him the man he wishes to be. A damning critique of the class system, Dickens’ novel was published in 1861 after first releasing it in a series of weekly chapters beginning in December 1860.

Great Expectations has been adapted multiple times, notably in 1998 by Alfonso Cuaron and starring Ethan Hawke, Gwyneth Paltrow, Anne Bancroft, and Robert De Niro. In 2012, Harry Potter director Mike Newell took a shot at a film version starring Jeremy Irvine,...

During a recent press conference in support of FX’s riveting six-part Great Expectations limited series, Oscar winner Olivia Colman (The Favourite) admitted she’s never read Charles Dickens’ classic novel. Despite that, Colman found being offered the opportunity to play the mysterious and manipulative Miss Havisham too enticing to pass up.
“I’d seen adaptations on the telly before, so I knew roughly who she was and everything,” explained Colman. “I thought ‘Oh, she sounds great. I’d love to get my teeth into her.’”
Colman’s been keeping incredibly busy with starring roles in Joyride, The Lost Daughter, and Empire of Light. The latter film earned the Oscar winner her third Oscar nomination. Colman was ready to take some time off until she read the Great Expectations script by showrunner and executive producer Steven Knight.

Amid the buzz of Oscar night, FX has released a short, 60-second preview to remind you that TV is still here and it doesn't all involve honoring movie achievements. The preview of what's coming soon to FX includes a first look at the much-anticipated "Justified" revival, "City Primeval," as well as new seasons of "Dave," "The Bear," "What We Do in the Shadows," and more.
The first thing that jumps out about this preview is the footage it offers of the network's upcoming "Great Expectations" adaptation, which is a co-production with BBC Studios. The "Great Expectations" limited series, based on the classic Charles Dickens novel (which has been adapted approximately umpteen times), hails from "Peaky Blinders" and "Taboo" creator Steven Knight. Academy Award winner Olivia Colman is out in front as Miss Havisham — so, see, there is an Oscar connection with this thing, after all. "Dunkirk" and "Black Mirror: Bandersnatch...
