I saw the review on here and couldnt help but make a counter in my own review. I grew up watching EEnE in a culdesac myself and remember even when the first ads came out on CN for it and loved it all the way to the sweet ending in the movie. This show is beyond words I can give really because of how much it reminds me of being a teenager in the years after the show ended and movie wrapped it up; all the while contrasting the differences only a few years can make when youre a kid who grows to believe theyve grown into an adult in those last years of school. The bright sunshine of the original with its bright colors compared to the more toned down colors of fall we see here really add to it, the constant groups of friends giving way to the more somber moments of isolation and the way light plays into those moments as we see it differently day by day and the endless summers finally seeing their own twilight. I loved the humor of the original and still do, but this touches me in a way that most cartoons of my youth couldnt. In the few shorts that are out so far, and the first episode Im left wanting more of this because I relate to these characters and the lives theyre navigating into. Seeing too how the animation is done and the labor that the creator puts into it frame by frame, shifting between the style of the older versions and the style of the original for the dream sequence, down to the lines wiggling was incredible detail by a dedicated fan of the original.
I cant stress enough how much the tone of the show matches those feelings of that transition from kid to adult not just in words but in the way we shed once important things away as we grow as Double D does in the first moments, which is an amazing nod as well to the first episode of the original. The depth that had been added to the original characters here so far cant be understated because its allowed them to do something most cartoons can only do in the final episodes or movie, they let the characters grow. Now this point contains a light spoiler, but considering its only a handful of shorts and an episode so far and youre reading this, Im assuming youve seen that. But whats more is it doesnt feel like some reset on the characters before in any way either, the Eds dont feel like outcasts. In fact, they seem to still be friends with most of the culdesac kids weve heard mentioned thus far while we hear how Jonny became the outcast and has only more recently let Plank go which follows the ending of the Big Picture Show. Even May, based on the first episode, seems to have some unresolved trauma herself around the ending of the movie and the time thats passed since then. The characterization of the kids as theyve aged in this is truly incredible so far and while Ill avoid speculating too much towards the future on this, I am beyond excited to see and enjoy more of this. I wont comment on what Danny Antonucci might feel on Peach Creek, but I cant see him disapproving of anything where a fan of Ed Edd and Eddy went on to pour their heart, soul and love into a project like this simply because theyre a fan because I believe thats what he put into Ed Edd and Eddy.
Ed, Edd, n Eddy was a great show that really captured how grand life as a kid was when your imagination could carry you anywhere with a few cardboard boxes and a fistful of quarters with your friends.
Peach Creek is an amazing show as well thats depicting what comes after that, when you grow up and the thoughts of the world around you change as you begin to see it differently and begin to truly appreciate every little moment of happiness that reminds you of being a kid.
