Jason Kim worked as an interpreter in the Korean Air Force before joining Korea’s movie distribution company, Showbox. Before that, he studied international politics at Georgetown University in the United States. Making films had always been his passion which resulted in him making “Goodbye My Sunshine” (2010) and “Koala” (2013). However, with the action comedy, “Midnight Runners” (2017) starring Park Seo-joon, he finally scored a huge hit in Korea. “The Divine Fury” (2019), a horror thriller, was a local box office failure. In 2023, Kim then moved on to do the Netflix action drama TV series “Bloodhounds”.

I’ve been a massive fan of Kim Woo-Bin since The Heirs way back when. Sure, we all love a good bad boy, but soon I discovered his film Twenty, which completely shattered that image and made him one of the top Korean actors in my eyes back in the day (I’m talking a decade ago). The model-turned-actor is a gem, especially when playing roles that are more rooted and, for the lack of a better word, kind. And I think that’s the whole basis of Officer Black Belt. The film opens with a man in his mid-late twenties expressing his love for sports and how it’s the one thing that makes him truly happy. So it seems a bit odd when we realize that though he’s basically got the Midas touch when it comes to any sport he plays, his regular job is delivering chicken for his dad’s shop.

In 1967, The Dirty Dozen fought their way into the hearts and minds of moviegoers in the classic war movie of the same name. Directed by Robert Aldrich, "The Dirty Dozen" told the (partly true) story of a dozen convicts ordered to fight for the U.S. in a secret, super-dangerous World War II mission. Among them: mobster Victor Franko (John Cassavettes), former coal miner Joseph Wladislaw (Charles Bronson), and Vernon Pinkley, played by Donald Sutherland in the role that landed him the "M*A*S*H" movie.
Character actor Lee Marvin played the general who put the ragtag team together, while Ernest Borgnine played his boss, who asked him to assemble the suicide mission that made the movie famous. All of these great actors are gone now, along with 10 of the 12 castmates who played the original "dozen." The two actors who are still with us, Stuart Cooper and Colin Maitland,...

Netflix is bringing a lot of interesting content to their exclusive audiences which spans around array of genres. One such project is Bloodhounds, an eight-episode action-drama series that is a culmination of phenomenal action sequences sprinkled with suspense. It would not be a surprise as the show feels similar to Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky on steroids as the show explores dark themes and violence.

Netflix has its A-game on when it comes to Korean dramas, as it releases a new fantastic show, or at least, an addicting one, on a weekly basis. Recently, we’ve had some gems like Doona, Castaway Diva, and A Time Called You that have been loved by audiences and critics alike. Now, it’s finally time for the highly anticipated Song Kang and Kim You-Jung-starring K-drama My Demon to have us on our knees begging for mercy. Alright, this is a very unserious statement, but everyone’s just so excited to be taken in by this girlboss-demon combination that we can’t help but imagine it’s going to be a super hit even if it manages to bring nothing new to the table. People are already screaming about the “face cards” these two very attractive actors are bringing to the show, which is reason enough to give it a go.

Toledo, Spain — In 2022, 32 U.S. titles ranked in a top 100 of most globally popular new scripted TV shows released in 2022.
30 South Korean series made the same Top 100, according to a study by London and L.A.-based consultancy Ampere Analysis presented Tuesday at Spain’s Conecta Fiction.

Nine of the Top 100 titles were Japanese. The fandom base of Korean series and Japanese anime are concentrated in teen and YA demographics, which are also most avid Internet users.

“Extraction 2” scored 42.8 million views worldwide since debuting on the streamer on Friday, June 16, or 88.4 million hours viewed, as the #1 most-viewed film in 88 of the 93 countries where it entered the Top 10. Ireland was the only primarily English-speaking country that had a different movie watched the most, and that was “Paw Patrol: The Movie.”
The original “Extraction” from 2020 scored 9.6 million views for 18.8 million viewing hours, while “Paw Patrol” was watched 6.6 million times or 9.4 million hours. Even less of a surprise...

The Gabrielle Union-starring rom-com The Perfect Find and new seasons of deceptive baking sensation Is It Cake? and The Witcher, marking the beginning of the end of Henry Cavill’s starring run, are some of the much-anticipated titles still set to come to Netflix this month.
In The Perfect Find, Union plays a fashion editor who, after a public breakup and career implosion, starts working for her former rival Darcy Hill (Gina Torres) and catches the eye of a younger videographer (Keith Powers), who happens to be the boss’ son. As a romance blossoms, Union’s character begins to question what she really wants from the next phase of her life. The film, directed by Numa Perrier, is based on Tia Williams’ award-winning novel of the same name and also stars Janet Hubert, D.B. Woodside, Aisha Hinds, La La Anthony and others.

As we creep towards summer, Netflix has a hot new list of fresh content, including the final season of “Never Have I Ever,” the sophomore season of ‘Human Resources” and the highly anticipated sixth season of “Black Mirror.”
Kicking off the start of the month on mega streamer are lots of family-friendly goodies like both “Nanny McPhee” and “Nanny McPhee Returns,” “Kicking and Screaming,” “Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius” and the “Angry Birds Movie.” But the adults won’t be left out of the conversation, as more mature flicks and series like “Jarhead,” “Funny People” and “We’re the Millers” are also hitting the platform this month.
And it wouldn’t be Netflix without its originals. “Take Care of Maya,” “Extraction 2” and the Sarah Snook-led “Run Rabit Run” will land on the site in June. And even if this isn’t enough to get you watching, Netflix will be streaming its Tudum festival on Saturday,...

Netflix has released its weekly global top 10 chart for the week of June 5, showing how movies and television series have been doing on the streamer. Jennifer Lopez‘s “The Mother” has been dominating the English language film chart for weeks, and it finally dropped out of the top spot, but not before taking sixth place in the all-time movie chart. Read on for this week’s analysis.
Library films were the name of the game this week as “Dune” director Denis Villeneuve‘s 2013 thriller “Prisoners” and Mark Wahlberg‘s “Shooter” from 2007 were the top two movies in the English language film chart with 13.9 million and 12.8 million hours viewed, respectively. The 2011 Taylor Lautner action-thriller “Abduction,” directed by the late John Singleton, entered the chart in third place with 9.6 million hours viewed, then followed by “The Mother” in fourth place with 8.4 million viewing hours. “Prisoners” and “Abduction” were helped greatly by being...

The final installment of “Manifest” has topped Netflix’s Top 10 list for its English series, clocking in 78.15 million hours for Season 4, Part 2. The ending also led to fans revisiting Season 1, which saw 18.18 million hours viewed.
The disaster supernatural thriller wasn’t the only series finale that made the list. The final season for “Never Have I Ever” scored 76.21 million hours viewed, putting it in the No. 2 slot.
Those two endings were then followed by Netflix’s latest investment in Arnold Schwarzenegger. “Fubar” remained in the top 10 for the third week in a row, securing 42.28 million hours viewed. Netflix’s Bloodhounds is an excellent example of a show that is fun, simple, and still engaging. The straightforward story is elevated by the presence of two popular actors who have excellent chemistry throughout the series. The bromance is palpable and makes for a refreshing and fun watch amongst the dark subject matter of such shows we’ve been watching recently. So, it is obvious that after finishing the first season, there’s a demand for more of the show, even if it’s just to see this budding bromance and have a hearty laugh. Of course, the streaming giant has made no official announcement of another season, and the webtoon was completed back in 2020, but the popularity of the show might as well lead to exciting outcomes. There are no cliffhangers at the end of the first season, and the show ends on a happy note, but there is always scope for more,...

Myeong-Gil is not a very unique k-drama villain; in fact, he’s got a laundry list of trait that makes him fit very well with a dozen others in the specific genre that Bloodhounds fits in. Still, there’s something interesting about him because we don’t learn much about his past in the series, which solely focuses on the good guys. Unlike a lot of such characters, Myeong-Gil doesn’t have much integrity and is happy to stab someone in the back when they’re looking away. Myeong-Gil’s arc just goes from bad to worse and keeps worsening until there’s nowhere for him to go to save himself. Greed is a powerful emotion that is irrational and can take over a person’s mind and body entirely, and Myeong-Gil is the purest example of this. Myeong-Gil is great with his words and has a sharp tongue that...

Netflix’s new Korean action drama is sure to grow in popularity with everybody’s favorite heartthrob, Woo Do-Hwan, being present among the show’s massive cast. It’s already apparent that action-packed revenge dramas are a big hit in the Hallyu industry, as we saw with the other mini-series, My Name, starring Han So-Hee. Unsurprisingly, the series is based on a webtoon by the same name that takes us back to the heart of the Covid-19 pandemic, where two rookie boxers befriend each other and get tangled up in a mighty battle with arguably Korea’s most notorious loan shark company. The bromance is impeccable, of course, and the rookie boxers who are pitted against each other in the rink become brothers outside it. It’s an interesting duo of misfits who have no similarities except that they’ve both returned from serving as Marines in the Army— A...

Bloodhoundsis a South Korean series directed by Kim Joo-hwan, starring Woo Do-hwan and Lee Sang-yi.
A South Korean series about the underworld that, this time, is more action than thriller. Good photography in a series that mixes boxing with an entertaining crime thriller and better production than script.
Bloodhounds
Entertaining and with that experience in the industry that South Korean productions are achieving: By now they definitely know how to produce good series that can hit the right spots.
Bloodhounds is, above all, a good product to entertain ourselves.
Without going down in history at all.
But it contributes enormously to an already consolidated industry, following the right path of profitability.
About the series
Good at all levels, but outstanding in none of them. It plays safe with the script and doesn’t transcend the genre. The series knows where to go and what its strengths are. It knows what it is,...

Netflix gained a new competitor last month (sort of) when HBO Max and Discovery combined forces to create the confusingly-named Max. With its list of new releases for June 2023, however, Netflix doesn’t have too much to worry about.
This month is filled with some major Netflix original titles, not the least of which is The Witcher season 3 volume 1 on June 29. Though star Henry Cavill is set to leave the Polish folklore/video game adaptation in season 4, he remains very much entrenched as the titular Witcher in this next go-around. Other big TV hits include Manifest season 4 part 2 (June 2), Big Mouth spinoff Human Resources season 2 (June 9), and animated King Kong series Skull Island (June 22). That’s not even to mention the return of Black Mirror season 6. That still has yet to receive a release date but we have no doubt it will be properly epic once it arrives.
