Jason Kim worked as an interpreter in the Korean Air Force before joining Korea’s movie distribution company, Showbox. Before that, he studied international politics at Georgetown University in the United States. Making films had always been his passion which resulted in him making “Goodbye My Sunshine” (2010) and “Koala” (2013). However, with the action comedy, “Midnight Runners” (2017) starring Park Seo-joon, he finally scored a huge hit in Korea. “The Divine Fury” (2019), a horror thriller, was a local box office failure. Korean multi-talent Yeon Sang-ho is getting back in business with Netflix for his next feature film — with a little help from Oscar-winning filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón.

Yeon has signed to direct a movie adaptation of his own popular Korean webtoon, Revelations, with Cuarón onboard to executive produce and consult on the project.

Yeon first became a familiar name to international film buffs in 2016 with his breakthrough zombie blockbuster Train to Busan. He’s since directed three projects for Netflix, the sci-fi feature Jung_E and the hit high-concept series Hellbound and Parasyte: The Grey. A second season of Hellbound is currently in the works.

Netflix declined to provide additional info on how Cuarón came to be involved in Revelations the movie, but Yeon shared his excitement over the partnership.

According to a new report from a local Korean outlet, SportsSeoul from journalist Kim Hyeon-deok, Netflix‘s Bloodhounds is getting renewed for another season. While their confirmation surely is great news for the action-drama fandom, it didn’t scoop much into what the new season has to offer.

South Korea’s Plus M Entertainment is set to launch sales on upcoming romantic drama Pavane: For A Dead Princess and action thriller Night Fever in Cannes.

Pavane: For A Dead Princess is directed by Lee Jong-pil, known for 2020 comedy drama Samjin Company English Class and 2015 period drama The Sound Of A Flower.

It will reunite Lee with Samjin actress Ko A-sung, who also played the lead in Because I Hate Korea, which opened last year’s Busan International Film Festival. Further cast includes Byun Yo-han of box office hit Hansan: Rising Dragon and Moon Sang-win of drama series Wedding Impossible.

A feature-length fully-animated version of smash hit Korean series “Yumi’s Cells” will launch next month at the European Film Market in Berlin. International rights to the property were picked up by Barunson E&a, part of the Korean Barunson conglomerate that also produced Oscar-winning live-action film “Parasite.”

“Yumi’s Cells: The Movie” is a 3D feature animation based on the popular Naver webtoon series of the same title that debuted in 2015. Production of the film is by Locus Animation (formerly Sidus Animation), which was previously responsible for “Red Shoes and Seven Dwarfs” and Studio N, a subsidiary of Naver Webtoon. The film is currently in post-production and will be delivered later this year.

Locus’s latest work, “Exorcism Chronicles: The Beginning” is also debuting at the EFM.

Chris Hemsworth‘s action-thriller “Extraction 2” has been dominating the English movie charts for weeks, but it was bumped by the new action-comedy “The Out-Laws,” starring Adam Devine, Nina Dobrev, Ellen Barkin and Pierce Brosnan. It racked up 19.6 million views since debuting on the streamer to take the #1 spot, the most-watched movie in the United States and over forty other countries (but not the UK or Canada).

“The Witcher” Season 3 and “The Lincoln Lawyer” Season 2 are currently the most-watched series on Netflix, according to the streamer’s top 10 English-language TV list.

All three seasons of “The Witcher” appeared on the list, with Season 3 Part 1 coming in first place with 13.8 million views. This marks the second week in a row the latest season of Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan’s fantasy drama secured the top spot. Season 1 then appeared in sixth place (2.6 million views) followed by Season 2 in seventh (2.4 million views).

“The Witcher” was then followed by Season 2 of “The Lincoln Lawyer,” which secured 7.4 million views. The first season of the Manuel Garcia-Rulfo series also appeared on the list in eighth place with 2.3 million views. But the legal drama wasn’t the only new addition on the list. 30 South Korean series made the same Top 100, according to a study by London and L.A.-based consultancy Ampere Analysis presented Tuesday at Spain’s Conecta Fiction.

Ampere’s popularity score is a propriety metric based not on viewership but on the tracking of internet search volume received by a title each month as well as other measures, Ampere’s Alice Thorpe clarified at the presentation.

Netflix’s Bloodhounds is an excellent example of a show that is fun, simple, and still engaging. The straightforward story is elevated by the presence of two popular actors who have excellent chemistry throughout the series. The bromance is palpable and makes for a refreshing and fun watch amongst the dark subject matter of such shows we’ve been watching recently. So, it is obvious that after finishing the first season, there’s a demand for more of the show, even if it’s just to see this budding bromance and have a hearty laugh. Of course, the streaming giant has made no official announcement of another season, and the webtoon was completed back in 2020, but the popularity of the show might as well lead to exciting outcomes. There are no cliffhangers at the end of the first season, and the show ends on a happy note, but there is always scope for more,...

Myeong-Gil is not a very unique k-drama villain; in fact, he’s got a laundry list of trait that makes him fit very well with a dozen others in the specific genre that Bloodhounds fits in. Still, there’s something interesting about him because we don’t learn much about his past in the series, which solely focuses on the good guys. Unlike a lot of such characters, Myeong-Gil doesn’t have much integrity and is happy to stab someone in the back when they’re looking away. Myeong-Gil’s arc just goes from bad to worse and keeps worsening until there’s nowhere for him to go to save himself. Greed is a powerful emotion that is irrational and can take over a person’s mind and body entirely, and Myeong-Gil is the purest example of this. Gun-Woo is excited to have won the award and gives his mother some money to pay back part of her loans.

Netflix’s new Korean action drama is sure to grow in popularity with everybody’s favorite heartthrob, Woo Do-Hwan, being present among the show’s massive cast. It’s already apparent that action-packed revenge dramas are a big hit in the Hallyu industry, as we saw with the other mini-series, My Name, starring Han So-Hee. Bloodhounds is, above all, a good product to entertain ourselves.

Without going down in history at all.

But it contributes enormously to an already consolidated industry, following the right path of profitability.

Netflix gained a new competitor last month (sort of) when HBO Max and Discovery combined forces to create the confusingly-named Max. With its list of new releases for June 2023, however, Netflix doesn’t have too much to worry about.

This month is filled with some major Netflix original titles, not the least of which is The Witcher season 3 volume 1 on June 29. Though star Henry Cavill is set to leave the Polish folklore/video game adaptation in season 4, he remains very much entrenched as the titular Witcher in this next go-around. Other big TV hits include Manifest season 4 part 2 (June 2), Big Mouth spinoff Human Resources season 2 (June 9), and animated King Kong series Skull Island (June 22). That’s not even to mention the return of Black Mirror season 6. That still has yet to receive a release date but we have no doubt it will be properly epic once it arrives.

One of the most anticipated titles coming to Netflix in June is “Extraction 2,” a sequel to the 2020 action thriller starring Chris Hemsworth. After being presumed dead following a massive battle in Bangladesh, Tyler Rake is back and ready to embark on another dangerous mission The film streams June 16.

The wacky animated film “Nimona” also arrives on the world’s largest streamer next month. The movie follows a shapeshifter sidekick to the villain Lord Blackheart. After his boss gets in trouble with Sir Ambrosius Goldenloin, who is charged with keeping the peace in a futuristic fantasy kingdom, Nimona has to become a new kind of hero for a new kind of fairy tale. The film arrives June 30 on Netflix.

Premiering in June — on a date to be announced — is the sixth season of the sci-fi dystopian technology anthology series “Black Mirror.

Two rookie boxers find themselves facing off against a whole underworld of ruthless gangsters in the first trailer for Netflix’s latest high-octane action series, Bloodhounds. (See the trailer below.)

The series stars Woo Do-hwan (The Divine Fury, The King: Eternal Monarch) and Lee Sang-yi (Once Again, Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha) as two up-and-coming rookie boxers who find themselves thrust into the merciless world of loan sharks. Netflix has a new Chief Action Officer. Arnold Schwarzenegger has taken on the job in a promo featuring footage of the streaming network’s upcoming action series and films. See it above.

Exclusive: Following the global success of Netflix original series D.P. and Hellbound, and the Netflix original film Jung-e, South Korea’s Climax Studio is developing filmmaker Jason Kim’s The Monster Tale along with Andy Serkis and Jonathan Cavendish’s Imaginarium Productions.

Serkis and Cavendish will serve as executive producers on the project alongside Climax’s Byun Seung-Min.

The Monster Tale brings together a warring group of three infamous East Asian monsters, an unlikely team of enemies who must unite to defeat a menacing invasion by a monster from across the seas in Europe.
