This movie pays homage to the classic Tom & Jerry short Robin Hoodwinked (1958) (the penultimate episode of the original series), where Jerry & Tuffy attempt to save Robin Hood from prison and ultimately execution by outsmarting Tom for the jail key.
Dedicated to the memory of Earl Kress, the film's main screenwriter, who died in 2011 of liver cancer.
Clive Revill (voices of King Richard and the referee) played Sir Guy of Gisborne in Qpid (1991) (another "Robin Hood episode" of a long-running franchise) and Fire Marshall in Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993).
